    The OFFICIAL RPDR Discussion Thread

This top 2 was a bit mind-boggling for me, i.e. wtf was Kennedy doing there. From this pair I'm glad that Trixie won. That being said, and bearing in mind that I stan Trixie to the moon and back, I don't think she really deserved the top spot based on her overall performance throughout the season. My ideal top 2 would have been Trixie and Shangela, with Shangela winning. Ofc I'm happy for Trixie, but this whole All Stars 3 was kinda mehhh... the finale episode seemed rushed and without much ceremony too. Can't wait to see what trainwreck of a season S10 will be~ :^)

remember when they were beefing with avelcain everyone was dragging them like their Wasuraruru Hanamuke single wasnt miles above anything Avel put out along with others songs. Now Avel's gone they're getting wanked. "pick a side, pick a side, they gotta switch" - NM anyway the song is okay. I prefer their more masterful, dope, or fast pace songs.

I say it really depends. Do you mean in general, or within the Vkei scene? In general, Dir en Grey definitely ranks highest, having combined popularity within the Vkei scene and within the general heavy metal scene. There are surprisingly a ton of edgelords who like Dir en Grey, but think all Vkei is trash (and therefore refuse to listen to any Dir en Grey album made before Uroboros) But within Vkei, the GazettE definitely outranks Dir en Grey. You can go quite a bit in a vkei community without hearing about Dir en Grey, but not 5 seconds without even hearing about The GazettE. Now Mucc is a pretty interesting case. I say Mucc definitely ranks somewhat on the top 10 most popular VisualKei bands list, but they have a specific part in the Vkei scene where they rank supreme, only behind one other band: MisshitsuKei. MisshitsuKei is one of those vkei forms that fall under the umbrella term "erogurokei", and it comes from the name of Caligari's record label, Misshitsu Neurose, which Mucc used to be signed to. Though MisshitsuKei is now a rarely used term, go on a few dead Eroguro-AnguraKei communities, and look at discussions of favourite bands, and you'll see a few common trends. Mostly people talking about Caligari and Mucc, with Guruguru Eigakan, Inugami Circus Dan and Metronome ranking just behind. Modern Mucc can't really be described as MisshitsuKei however, since they have expanded since signing to Universal and Danger Crue. Also, the most popular band in the confusing sea that is the Eroguro-Angura scene (Which I for years erroneously considered bands like Kuroyuri to Kage to be a part of), they're still outranked by Caligari and maybe Guruguru Eigakan. Their influence on other influential bands, such as Kagerou and Girugamesh, though, can't be denied. But among all these 3, I say they're the least popular.

@Zeus Thank you a lot for all your explaination and your involving. I will continue to follow my tutorials, I need to really put myself into this, but with your help, I can restructure my "hard base". I will think about the img store, and for sure about the different version of 1 CD, I had forget there was this specificity... @Peace Heavy mk II Thank for your answer, tbh i had forgot that we could put more than one id_ in a table. That's why I really need to learn more ^^"

    [help] web dev

@xrikoI am in front a real keyboard so now I can help explain this. I will be writing my examples in SQL Server SQL, which is very similar to MySQL but a few small things are different. I will start with the SONG table, because that's going to be your most important table. ID_SONG will be in every other table (or almost every other table) so the work we do here will make it easier later. When thinking about it, a song can belong to one artist and a song can belong to more than one CD or sometimes no CD at all. I would add two values, ID_DISK andID_ARTIST, so that I can link a song back to the CD or CDs it is on and the artist that recorded it. I would also think hard about how you want to represent a song performed live that is never officially released (either live distributed or only ever played live). Also if a SONG is on more than one release it should have more than one row in this table. That is okay. CREATE TABLE SONG ( ID_SONG INT NOT NULL, TITLE_JP VARCHAR(300) NOT NULL, TITLE_ROMAJI VARCHAR(300) NOT NULL, ARRANGER VARCHAR(100) NULL, WRITER VARCHAR(100) NULL, ID_DISK INT NULL, ID_ARTIST INT NOT NULL ) For the ARTIST table, you can add other fields that you want to track like years active or the label they are signed to. CREATE TABLE ARTIST ( ID_ARTIST INT NOT NULL IDENTITY(1,1), ARTIST_NAME_JP VARCHAR(300) NOT NULL, ARTIST_NAME_ROMAJI VARCHAR(300) NOT NULL ) For the CD table, you want to add another column so that you can join back to the band that released the CD and any other columns that you want. I would also heavily advise against storing images in your database and find another way to represent them, because that can cause your database to get big really fast, but if you still want to use the special LONGBLOB data type. Also, instead of maintaining a list of tracks that belong to an album in your CD table, store the ID_SONG value next to a new value called TRACKLIST_ORDER, so you can reuse the data in the other table and also keep the order that it was released in the album. It's up to you how you want to store different versions of the same release. CREATE TABLE CD ( ID_DISK INT NOT NULL, ID_ARTIST INT NOT NULL, FRONT_COVER LONGBLOB, TITLE VARCHAR(300) NOT NULL, TITLE_ROMAJI VARCHAR(300) NOT NULL, RELEASE_DATE DATE, RELEASE_CODE VARCHAR(100), PRICE NUMERIC(3,2), ID_SONG INT NOT NULL, TRACKLIST_ORDER INT NOT NULL, EXTRAS VARCHAR(1000) ) The LIVE table can stay exactly as it is, except I would change SET_LIST to ID_SETLIST, and BANDS to SUPPORTING_BANDS. ID_SETLIST is a new column that you will use to join into another table (I will explain why shortly) and SUPPORTING_BANDS has the same values as the column ID_ARTIST in your ARTIST table. This means that a live that has two supporting bands before the main act will have two rows in this table. That is okay. CREATE TABLE LIVE ( ID_LIVE INT NOT NULL, DATE DATE, VENUE VARCHAR(100), TOUR_NAME VARCHAR(100), TOUR_INFO VARCHAR(500), SUPPORTING_BANDS INT, DOORS_OPEN DATETIME, SHOW_STARTS DATETIME, PRICE_RESERVED NUMERIC(3,2), PRICE_DOOR NUMERIC(3,2), ID_SETLIST INT NOT NULL, ) Now all you need is a SET LIST table that has the ID of the set list, the ID of the band, the IDs of all the songs played, and the order they are played in. You want another table for SET_LIST because you do not want to store the set list as a string. It will be a lot of work to get the answers back later, especially if you want to look at all the concerts for a particular band. You can get back all the other information such as dates and albums by joining the tables that you need together, so there's no reason to store anything else here. CREATE TABLE SET_LIST ( ID_SETLIST INT NOT NULL, ID_ARTIST INT NOT NULL, ID_SONG INT NOT NULL, TRACK_ORDER INT NOT NULL ) I hope all of this made sense.

I think so as well. I'm always reminded of how good Atsuki is at drumming when watching them live. I think the rest of the members have a lot of potential too. Their capabilities are most displayed in 真昼間は別の顔, グッド・バイ, and ドラマ in my opinion! I think Minpha's bass really shines in all of the named tracks and we get to hear more of Taku and Yutori's guitar playing in ドラマ!

    MEJIBRAY

I don’t know. I feel like it was a damned-if-they-do-damned-if-they-don’t situation with regards to the collapse. If they cut it, they’re further censoring the band than they already have been, and that doesn’t work when everyone was already reporting about it and everyone knew it happened. On the other, leaving it on the DVD can come off as kind of exploitative; but it’s also the last release for Mejibray for the foreseeable future, so maybe they’re hoping it gets people to buy the DVD for one last surge of cash. I don’t really know how to read a lot of the shit that went down with Mejibray since May, but it felt like there was a lot of frustration and lingering sadness. If anything, if it -was- a PR stunt, I think it was more for the benefit 8P-SB. Forum (the label) really did not come out looking good in all this, and I know a good number of the regular gya were flat out boycotting the DVD.

    Piracy's role in visual kei

Double-Edged Sword I think it goes both ways. Most times I'll listen to something and if I like it I'll buy it. But sometimes, I might only download a few tracks I like from an artist and never buy anything of theirs. Shouldn't previews be enough? A lot of times bands will release a 30 second teaser or one-two songs for an upcoming release, but that's not enough to convince me to drop $20-40 on something I may or may not like. If I'm not a fan, chances are I wasn't gonna buy it anyways. Listening Platform Streaming is becoming a prominent way people listen to music nowadays. I don't think there are many people who still mainly find new music through just physical purchases. Heck, many people I've talked with have stopped going digital music hunting for downloads. Convenience is key here. Why go through all this trouble when I can just find what I'm looking for on youtube right on my phone? It's also not uncommon for some people to almost exclusively use a single platform like Google Play or Spotify. Labels can really help their bands gain more exposure through these streaming services simply because a lot of people this generation will never buy music in a physical format and use whatever method is faster and easier. What seems to work? I've seen plenty of "pay what you want" systems work quite successfully. One label I follow always puts their artist's music on as many digital platforms as they can for free (Youtube, Spotify, Bandcamp, etc.). They open it up to their consumers to donate how much they see fit. This is in addition to physical CDS and vinyl records they sell as well. I find this method appealing because it allows anyone to contribute regardless of their financial situation. Got only a dollar to spare? That's better than nothing. Leechers were just gonna leech anyways, and the collectors can spend more on physical releases if that's their thing. This also encourages people to just go to the source and download instead. It feels a bit unfair to say the only way to support a band nowadays is by spending a minimum of $35 for a new album, especially when there do exist more ways for fans to show their support this day and age. And, you just know labels are in it just for money when they pull crap like "New Single [Type A-Z]". And on that note, live limited releases are not doing anyone favors and only encourages piracy. Sure, it's a special little something for attendees but there are so many scalpers who use this opportunity to make money off the band. 300% markup is not cool. Label Involvement I think how a label takes care of their artists is crucial in driving sales. So many bands have been stifled by a label's involvement with rushed timelines, requirements to change creative direction, and not having an understanding of their audience. I can't tell you how many times I've gone from loving a band to abandoning them because of a label change. It's usually at this point I typically just download a band's music just to see if I'll like what they've put out instead of buying their music.

    Piracy's role in visual kei

To begin, we must pleeease understand that the correlation of piracy = loss of a sale is FALSE. People pirating releases ARE NOT making musicians lose money, period. If people hadn't shared, I don't know, batsu game's latest release, I would NOT buy it. I would simply go on without listening to it, because I don't care enough for them to go out of my way to buy a physical copy of something that would cost me 3 USD if it was an itunes release (btw the single sucks). This is true to 95% of the vk listeners, and has been widely discussed in sample pools much larger than a niche japanese music scene, like videogames for example. People buy what they like, period. If you do not let them at least try, why the hell should they buy your music? That being said, people vastly, VASTLY overestimates the importance of western fandom to the scene. We are not the main target, we are not their main income source, the music isn't made for us. We are a plus in the scene, and every single release a westerner fan buys, it's an EXTRA income for the band. They are not counting with our money, people gotta understand that most of the bands simply don't care if we are listening to them or not, as long as their onemans are filled with japanese girls doing dance steps at their songs. Very few bands have the desire for more international exposure, and if that's the case, they sure have to adapt to our ways, as we are not obliged to accept their 90's thinking in the age of streaming. IF japanese fans started pirating instead of buying, THEN we would have a problem. Music is dogs eating dogs everywhere in the world, why would be different for japanese boys in make up? Bands that are actually good, or at least are able to gather interest in their music will flourish, no matter what. People fail to understand that the scene is small because of it's characteristics, because boys dressing like girls and shredding guitars is niche and most importantly, it's foundation is what holds it back. No ammount of western pirates will make or break a band, period. fun fact, UNiTE. shared most of their discography on Spotify, I don't know if it is restricted in japan (which would be a smart thing to do). Yeah they are bigger than most vk acts around, but that does show they are not following the outdated tunneled vision most bands are, and see us as what we are. Extra income, if they get to book a concert here and there, fine! If not, fine aswell, their focus is where it should be, their growth in Japan, without closing their doors to us, the outsiders.

    Piracy's role in visual kei

I live in Australia and shipping costs are really expensive so its hard to justify buying releases unless it's on itunes or something. But if the vk piracy scene died I would just buy the (relatively few) releases I'm interested in and share them on slsk (this is assuming jpopsuki is dead too). I'm lucky enough to live in a first world country so I would be able to do this. The main problem would be live limited releases which would completely fade out of existence to the West (or should I say more then they are now). The other problem would be there would be less discussion about bands/releases because many people wouldn't be able to listen to them and it would be harder sorting the bad from the good.

    The Ultimate Tag Thread

For me, I remove ID3v1 and use ID3v2.3 UTF-16 instead, and everything will be in Unicode on every computer that supports it (Windows XP and newer). fb2k reads ID3v1 (which doesn't support Unicode) before ID3v2, so this is why I should remove it. In addition, I use the field "ALBUMARTIST" for v.a. albums to tag something like オムニバス so that fb2k can group all the tracks together. And iPod users should set the field "COMPILATION" to 1 if the field "ALBUM ARTIST" exists. You can try these settings, and test on a messed up album just by clicking on the "Remove Tag" button. It will remove ID3v1 and APE if they exist while ID3v2 still remains.
