    MEJIBRAY will go on hiatus

Heresy! Encores are an integral part of setlist planning. I say this as someone who have spent way too much time writing setlists for bands I like. They can provide a necessary break to not cause an abrupt break in the flow between styles (see Dir en grey doing their Marrow of a bone tour busting out MISSA material during the encore), as a way to build tension and expectation and to just allow the band a chance to breathe so they can have energy to squeeze out a few more tracks instead of perform a measly 15 songs.

At least one positive thing I can say about these guys is that they finally seem to realize encores are fucking pointless :^)

That project is finally finished. It was hell putting it together in Unreal Engine 4 and it's not my best work at all, but I'm happy that I managed to complete it and the outcome isn't as bad as it could've been. I'll be working on it as a personal project now in my spare time.

I figured most people are familiar with this song, and it's a song I thought deserved a better translation than some I've seen, so I decided hey, why not? *Disclaimer* Just to cover any bases, I'm putting this here because this song isn't really suitable for people who are underage, but then again the first one that@plastic_rainbowposted probably wasn't either. Now that that's out of the way... Japanese: English: PV: Some things to possibly consider: The ILLUMINATI believe that enlightenment, manifestation, or a God-like awareness can be achieved through orgasm. In the PV, the women in tanks and the members of the band are separated, but then seem to appear together in some simulated sexual fantasy. Is this some manifestation of each member's (or their character's) sexual desires where they are they are acting as members of the Illuminati, or is it some kind of sexual/mind experiment being performed by the Illuminati? You'll notice than in their alternate costumes for this concept, the band is dressed as doctors. At the end of the PV, all of the women die from violent causes. Is this carried out as they climax/orgasm, or has the enlightenment through orgasm theme been replaced with BDSM and violence instead? (Possibly for shock value?) Or are the women being sacrificed like Isaac? (Thanks@Peace Heavy mk II) Is this MALICE MIZER's retelling of biblical canon plus some kind of Illuminati sex ceremony, or what? Is there some way all of this imagery intersects with each other? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the matter!

Pentagon new album "WANDERLUST" release !

It sounds more pentagon than that bullshit they released this year. Let's see if the rest of the album is redeeming or not.
  14. 1 point
This will be a though one, as I'm not reeeally familiar with Malice Mizer themes and works, and my religion knowledge was left behind in my teenage days, but I'll try to chime in! Most of this is from memory so take it with a grain of salt. There may be a few confusions on religion mythos as everything is pretty much the same with different interpretations, so be my guest and correct me if I'm wrong! Nimrod was a powerful king/warrior in christian mythology (others too, but I can't say for them, as my background is christian) that is linked to Babel and the Tower of Babel, as @jaymeealready said. After the flood, all descendants of Noah spoke the same language. After the founding of the city, they created the tower as an attempt to reach heaven. God saw it as a transgression, so decided to confuse the people by changing the language they spoke, which created confusion and end up spreading people around the world. Nimrod is also said to have been an enemy/oppositor or having disagreements with Abraham, which is seen as one of the most faithful of god's servants. The Star of David is a symbol of Judaism, and basically represented the kingdom of David and jewish people. There's also an idea that the Star of David is used in occultists rituals, but I don't know to what extent "Magical or Meriment. Comunion with Nimrod. / I offer a prayer to your disrobed body lying before me" - This implies an occultist/satanic ritual is about to be performed, as commuting with Nimrod, a god defier is said. Also, fornication can be seen as a form of opposing god's laws and the sexual energy is really common and said to be powerful for some rituals. "At the center of the Star of David, everything will join" - This can be seen as another defiance to a holy symbol, or maybe its use in occultists rituals as a symbol (think Fullmetal Alchemist) "The agony and blood flowing from your freed body will turn to pleasure" - Again, the mixture of pain/pleasure and sacrificial rituals, often seen as an worship to evil (do not forget that on Nimrod/Abraham times, it was pretty common for god to ask for sacrifices, tho) "The way your helpless form dances is beautiful like Semiramis" - As far as I remember, Semiramis was indeed one of Nimrod's wifes, and a condecorated warrior... But google checking, she is also credited for spreading several work of arts through old Mesopotamia. I think this is more accurate as a reference, makes sense to compare human beauty to art. "Surrender yourself, rising to a climax / So that I may partake of the Holy Grail that is your mad, writhing body" - Self explanatory, I think. continues the relation of ritualistic sexual pleasure and blasphemy, as the comparison of a sacrificial female body to the Holy Grail. Take @jaymee's notes of Moriah and Boaz into the mix and you get the full picture of the lyrics. HOWEVER, when trying to make a connection with the PV, I think the lyrics lose most of it's intrincacies to a simple sexual pain/pleasure/desire, and Gackt sprinkled a few religion names and references just for shock value. It loses most of its symbolism to pure sexual fetishism and secret inner desires, as implied by the revelation of what each member desired when submited to that VR apparatus, which was studied by the "doctors". This is one of the reasons I don't like/think we should always use PVs as a tool to understand lyrical content.

When you are referring to sacrificing David, are you referring to the story in the Old Testament? If so, I think you mean Isaac.

    Petty hatred towards bands.

Some of us just have an extremely dark sense of humour that comes out best when expressing opinions in an edgy manner. All you with your popcorns out, you are also part of these people. You like the drama edginess creates. Not that I count myself amongst either of those people. I mean, I don't even express my opinions on this forum. I have effectively learned to live inside my own little headbubble with all the bands that I love inside and all the bands that I dislike as well as every other opinion in the world outside. Trust me, it's the happiest place in the world.

I think it really comes down to what you expect when listening to music. Which aspects are most important for you to enjoy it. Is it originality? Talent? Sound and recording quality? Does the song comply with your personal genre preferences? And how do you rate these aspects? Your rating could be absolute. Comparing the song to everything you ever listened to in a vacuum. You don't care who made it and under which preconditions because all that matters is how much you enjoy it. Or maybe it is relative. You care about potential and compare to other releases from the same band or bands at the same point of their career because you enjoy seeing musicians grow. Both stances make perfect sense. The first category of people might still listen to indies bands because they can be fresh and surprising and edgy but see no point in them if theres a larger band doing the same style but better and in high definiton. The judgement would be harsh accordingly. The second category of people might even appreciate a little crappiness and overlook the plagiarism and basic recording quality and only get bored when there's no development anymore. It's not petty, it's just a matter of perspective.

Jui is one of my favorite VK vocalists. He got so much better in each band he was in. In De-vine he sounded nothing like he did in Raisonne, and in Luinspear I noticed the most change, and then came Vidoll which was sorta like a more polished Luinspear . I see the change of his voice and I'm glad vocalists release music while they're still in their early provisional period. Listening to an artist's first band and then the band they're most well known for side by side is sort of like looking at a before and after picture of someone's attempting to make some sort of transition or transformation. In his early years Jui still sung with passion, and you could tell he was really determined to become something special. Jui could never in a million years sing a song like kimi wo nosete in any of his first few bands. I was using him as an example to highlight improvement, but I'm betting you knew that anyways. I'm just expanding more on the subject of Jui.

    Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say

How to spot a VK noob (possibly outdated version): - Says they have like 10 VK albums, but every one of them is a Chinese/Taiwanese bootleg. - They claim to be "a fan" of a new VK indie band, but they live overseas and the band doesn't have any physical releases out yet. - Buys polaroids and posters of bands they don't even listen to. - Constantly points how this/that/everything could be VK or lolita style whenever they go shopping. - Talks about how Asian/Japanese guys are hotter than Western guys or assumes the majority of Japanese people are as "hot" as VK guys. - Their favorite VK songs (and possibly the only ones they know) are all anime themes. - Confuses fanfiction with reality.

    Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say

I have seen X Japan three times now and every time X Japan is super late to start, there are more theatrics than music, and most X fans (Japanese or foreign) are annoying as fvck. A lot of them are cosplaying obangya (and when I say obangya, most of them are 40-60 y.o. women/grannies) and their tall hair blocks out pretty much any chance you might of had of seeing the stage. It's not as bad at arenas where the seats are tiered, but at the Visual Japan Summit last year everyone was just in a standing zone and I had to watch most of their performance through a screen. Also, their fans don't seem to understand the "switch out" system for taiban lives. X Japan were playing last, but some of their hime-sama fans had already decided to take up the front row at 10:00 a.m. when PLC came on. At a previous show I saw, Yoshiki decided to have some random/awful h.naoto fashion show in the middle of the concert, and even liking h.naoto at the time, it was still like wtf I didn't pay 12,000-15,000 yen for an hour-long intermission when X Japan only had like 8 songs to play in total. Then at every live they play, you have to listen to X Japan and their fans yelling "WE ARE X!" for like 30+ minutes. The only other person that I've seen put more emphasis on bad theatrics than performing is Gackt, but at least he played more than 8 songs and had better tour goods. TL;DR, they have good songs and I appreciate them paving the way for visual kei, but there is certainly a cult-like hype around them that isn't entirely deserved.
