In the "especially cringe" department, there's "artiste extraordinaire" HITT revealing his bare chest to show us he had stickers on his nipples with his own face printed on them. He then proceeded to detach them and threw them in the audience, to the ecstatic cheers of the crowd. I'll concede that hysterical laughter alone was worth the price of admission. -

Hello everyone! I'm Nanashigurl01! I have been listening to J-rock all my life thanks to a cousin who came back from Japan with a demo cassette of X Japan when I was a year old. It apparently was the only way I would stop crying as my parents like to tell me. I love Japanese music as well as Korean. Not just rock but pop as well. Feel free to talk with me! -

2 pointsDISAPPOINTED!! People saying this season is as bad/worse than S7, I challenge you to go watch it again. S9 does lack drama and stand out personalities, but the outfits and comedy are 100x above S7. I'll be that bitch who says 'we'll never have another one as good as S6' but it's true. That season was perfect on all accounts : drama, looks, personalities, fun, etc. and S9 is the closest we have come to that since. Now I'm voting for Shea and Sasha. It'll be so emotional if they have to sync against each other. Trinity is winning me over too, I still like Nina's looks but she needs to get over her insecurities. All the looks were so good this challenge, except for you know who. Also one thing I hate that happens every episode is fucking Alexis going in to be shady or whatever and always stating a hundred disclaimers beforehand "I'm NOT being shady, or coming for you, because I'm not, I'm just giving criticism because I appreciate if you did the same for me, I'm JUST saying, and you may not agree BUT, I don't wanna start a fight....It's just that your look sucks/ I did more work than any of you/ Why didn't you tell me my look sucks'' I thought Eureka was bad...

BORN: i think Ryoga loves foreigners tbh... at one show he threw his waterbottle directly at me but he threw it so hard it bounced off my titties into the stratosphere. thanks lynch.: At one of their twomans with born, Akinori came out while born was playing and stood in the audience. he was literally right behind me for a long time and i didn't notice... when my friend pointed it out i turned around and made extremely awkward eye contact with him. he smiled at least but i felt bad lmao. i've also run into him while he with a girl in Nagoya so he probably thinks i'm the worst my friend and i also used to do this towel whipping thing during MIRRORS while everyone else headbanged because it would make hazuki laugh. i was at the show where hazuki had a fucking tantrum and dented his mic on the stand thing the vocalists have, too. i have a lot of lynch. memories but i think most of them are only interesting to me... UNDER FALL JUSTICE: i don't usually rush for the stage during rush songs because i have the balance of a newborn fawn and tend to fall off any steps, but i did it for my last show before going home to Canada... anyway Airo grabbed the back of my head and rubbed it lovingly for a weirdly long time when i went for it, it scared the fuck out of me Pentagon: Kanazawa AZ has these weird catwalks/ledges on all edges of the audience area so during the rush song the members went to different spots on them... i decided to rush Minpha for laughs and considering the dude looks like he weighs about as much as a bowling ball he yanked me so hard i lost my balance and had to hold onto him for dear life. sry chinpha Amelia Galaxy: i went to a super do-minor live to see Tokami and an ex-Siva band, and these guys were playing. everyone else was sitting and they had just a few fans... since they were really TRYING hard to get people up there and the vocalist tried to talk to us in English from onstage i parked myself in front of the hottest member and pretended i was having a ball. since i was the only one in front of him he bowed and waved at me when he left the stage lel. i also got invited as kankeisha for Matenrou Opera which is a band i don't really care about but i was geeked cause i was a few seats away from some of vistlip, duel jewel and versailles and it was just cool being there. i met the band after but mostly it was an awkward experience as the person i was with who was an actual fan of them froze up and i was basically like so how bout them yomiuri giants -

when i saw versailles earlier this year, hizaki forgot his first of like five solos when they played Silent Knight. maybe forgot isn't the right word, but his muscle memory got sort of lost after a phrase or two and his left hand was out of position, and he just kept playing to save face through it, the entire time staring out deeply into the audience, as he tends to do during many of his solos. like it was bad, out of key notes and then a really nervously improvised 'oh shit' recovery part after for fifteen seconds or so. it was the only part of the entire show where the musicianship was less than perfect from any of the members. but anyway, while it was happening and he was staring into the audience, he locked eyes with me for like a second or two as soon as he seemed to start messing up and it was a very profound moment for some reason. it was just like a "oh shit, hizaki's not a god, but hizaki is actually a human being like me that makes mistakes" moment. psychologically as if i watched an idol die in front of me felt as if i had like successfully walked through a wall or something akin in mental weirdness. -

Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say
Pixiu and one other reacted to Himeaimichu for a post in a topic
Even though I consider myself an X Japan fan, I agree with your points.. I wouldn't ever attend an X Japan concert on it's own anyway, because of the crappy theatrics. Also, it's not the same without Hide. (Though, I do think that Hide is horribly misunderstood by Vkei fans. He was more than a sad guy, he was unstable, and needed therapy). Heck, X Japan themselves aren't as important as they're hyped up to be. I mean, Saver Tiger formed first, and D'erlanger and Dead End got popular way before X. Also, ToshI got his famous look from Kyo of D'erlanger. Before that, X looked much different. Heck, X even copied a few riffs from their fellow indie bands (Blue Blood taking their intro from Crows in Black by Rosenfeld) and they weren't any more than another indie early Vkei band until Hide came along. Heck, apparently, the term "Crime of Visual Shock" came from another band, though someone will have to confirm that for me. And while Extasy bands did go on to major labels and all, not even the labels prevented Zi:Kill and Glay from breaking up, and I don't ever hear about Tokyo Yankees anymore. Gilles de Rais was a failure too. The only former/current Extasy bands that still preform that I can think of on the top of my head are Luna Sea, X, Tokyo Yankees and Glay. Ultimately, Dynamite Tommy's Free Will label was more successful in the end, because they're still a driving force. While X may have been one of the first Vkei bands to go major, that isn't nearly as important as the driving force in the indie scene, as Vkei is built from the ground up. The indie bands are the backbone. I'm going on a soapbox here, but I felt this needed to be said. -

Petty hatred towards bands.
monkeybanana4 reacted to shiroihana for a post in a topic
Yeah I'm not sure if this is the right spot to write this but I'm just going to write it anyway because I think it's a real issue that is worth talking about (since I haven't seen anyone ever talk about it). Perhaps it should be moved to one of the music sections since it is music related, but I wasn't sure how the rant would end. What do you think of indie visual kei bands? Or indie bands in general? I'm talking about really new young bands that may not have that much talent or skill, but still play their damn hearts out and pour their soul into the music. I'm talking about bands that belong to unpopular labels if at all, often comprised of a bunch of kids 18 or 19. I'm talking about people who really just got into the business. Think Jui from Vidoll during De-vine for example. I've noticed for years now that there are music elitists / snobs / parasites / whatever you want to call them in the VK community, and in musical communities in general. They're WAY too harsh when they criticize music, nearing delusion but are rarely called out on it. The other day I listened to an indie band's final release, and it was full of passion and emotion, and the vocalist improved before that band disbanded (they were really bad at the beginning lol). The band I'm talking about is called ReivieЯ and the song is called Dears. Basically they had a final release that was really good in my opinion, and it was very emotional, then I went to read reviews of the album and everyone was talking absolute shite. People were saying that the release was bad and that the vocalist sucked or didn't improve (which is bullshit), and I was just thinking to myself something along the lines of "Wow. This release (Dears in particular) was full of so much emotion and I can really feel the music and enjoy this. I want to see you detractors put out something even half as good as this. Why do people just talk shit and ignore every good aspect of the release to say negative shit instead?". The vocalist has since joined a band called Fixer and has improved immeasurably since RevieЯ's first release but anyway I knew for a while now that music critics are often overly harsh to the point of just being plain delusional. They ignore every good aspect of a song just to shit on it because vocals might be a little off at one part, or for any other petty trivial reason. I've noticed that these people tend to dislike nearly everything that isn't produced by extremely talented and highly trained artists. I thought that music was supposed to be an artform, a canvas to express emotion and feeling and share it with others. I didn't know that music was supposed to be monopolized by only extremely skilled musicians with very difficult to achieve levels of skill, innovation and talent. I was always surprised by this attitude. The irony is that here in America, a lot of the popular music that the majority of people listen to is music that requires little to no no talent aside for in some instances so-so vocal training. It is not hard to sing a really basic pop song, it just requires a little bit of basic vocal training. You don't really have to use many vocal techniques to sing basic pop songs. Singing in a good power metal band and actually sounding good requires far more technique, time, training, ambition, dedication and effort, yet people eat mainstream pop / hip hop up like it's the best music on the planet. With visual kei I have had the exact opposite experience. In the end I don't really know what this rant achieves, but this is coming from someone who has loved indies visual kei bands for a decade now. I think that the attitude that a lot of people have towards musicians, especially singers discourages them from releasing their covers to the public, because criticizing towards us is usually very harsh and unconstructive. -

well.....this isn't vk but i thought i'd share it here as well. when i went to see envy they performed "toki wa owaru" by the bloodthirsty butchers as a tribute to hideki yoshimura. i saw them early june so it was right around the time when hideki passed away. i didn't realize it was a tribute to him until i recognized the song, but that was really cool and heartwarming. -

1 pointAlso; A lot of 'alternative' music - and I don't just mean VK - just isn't for everyone, to be frank. I'm pretty sure I'm not entirely wrong when I say that a lot of western indie/post-punk/goth bands also have singers (or, hell, just an overall sound) ranging from 'a bit of an acquired taste' to 'just plain fucking horrible'. For example, I REALLY can't stand Wayne Coyne's voice (guy from The Flaming Lips), even though I really do enjoy quite a lot of the actual music I've heard by his band, they're a band that's been around for ages, they know their stuff, and they've been pretty adored by critics at some point. Still, at the same time I love vocalists like Amano Tonbimaru from Guruguru Eigakan or Sharaku from FLOPPY/Metronome, and both of them are from an objective standpoint pretty damn bad (or at least 'not very good'). Despite that, I still stan them and their sometimes pretty janky-sounding music... Because they do something relatively original that can't be found all that much anywhere else. I'm personally a lot more lenient towards younger bands w.r.t. QUALITY if they bring something that's at least mildly unique to the table instead of just going full derivative, but I know other people may think differently. Whichever side you're on, you just gotta roll w/ the punches and keep liking what you like despite what 'critics' or whoever say. I feel like a lot of (professional) music ""criticism"", as w/ film ""criticism" and videogame """"""""""criticism"""""""""", is all pretty much largely based on a.) industry relations and people getting paid off to give good reviews or b.) old grumpy OVERLY elitist fucks like Christgau or whatever... Now, if I had to choose between those two, I'd probably still incline more towards the latter category, but I think both are misguided in their own way. At the same time, though, I gotta say that the whole 'If you hate it so much, I'd like to see you try to release something better :^)'-argument is incredibly weak and on the same tier as food analogies in terms of their ability to utterly kill a conversation and render it meaningless, and it's usually the tell-tale mark of a stan. I don't really understand the mindset of people who treat an insult to a band they like as if someone broke into their house and took a shit on their very own bed tbh.. tl;dr: just like what you like regardless of what 'critics' say, as long as you don't act like a stan about it there shouldn't be any problems lol

1 pointHow to spot a VK noob (possibly outdated version): - Says they have like 10 VK albums, but every one of them is a Chinese/Taiwanese bootleg. - They claim to be "a fan" of a new VK indie band, but they live overseas and the band doesn't have any physical releases out yet. - Buys polaroids and posters of bands they don't even listen to. - Constantly points how this/that/everything could be VK or lolita style whenever they go shopping. - Talks about how Asian/Japanese guys are hotter than Western guys or assumes the majority of Japanese people are as "hot" as VK guys. - Their favorite VK songs (and possibly the only ones they know) are all anime themes. - Confuses fanfiction with reality.

1 pointI have seen X Japan three times now and every time X Japan is super late to start, there are more theatrics than music, and most X fans (Japanese or foreign) are annoying as fvck. A lot of them are cosplaying obangya (and when I say obangya, most of them are 40-60 y.o. women/grannies) and their tall hair blocks out pretty much any chance you might of had of seeing the stage. It's not as bad at arenas where the seats are tiered, but at the Visual Japan Summit last year everyone was just in a standing zone and I had to watch most of their performance through a screen. Also, their fans don't seem to understand the "switch out" system for taiban lives. X Japan were playing last, but some of their hime-sama fans had already decided to take up the front row at 10:00 a.m. when PLC came on. At a previous show I saw, Yoshiki decided to have some random/awful h.naoto fashion show in the middle of the concert, and even liking h.naoto at the time, it was still like wtf I didn't pay 12,000-15,000 yen for an hour-long intermission when X Japan only had like 8 songs to play in total. Then at every live they play, you have to listen to X Japan and their fans yelling "WE ARE X!" for like 30+ minutes. The only other person that I've seen put more emphasis on bad theatrics than performing is Gackt, but at least he played more than 8 songs and had better tour goods. TL;DR, they have good songs and I appreciate them paving the way for visual kei, but there is certainly a cult-like hype around them that isn't entirely deserved.
