I've been very uninspired for a number of years now, and I really struggle to feel any emotion anymore. Loud music and a whole bloody lot of caffeine are about the only thing that allow me to work, albeit very sterile and not on stuff I enjoy. Getting back into some sort of community...and getting back to VK instead of listening to the same old music I always do, I hope this can propel me in a more positive direction. Already I've finally been able to pick up a brush again (or I guess in this case, a paint bottle lid lol) thanks to listening to Sukekiyo so I will start my thread with it, though it is unfinished I am just happy to have done something. Another canvas I've had sitting under a sheet for almost a year. I hope to actually complete Something from last August. Gold red black and mossy greens are my main love. I usually do stuff digitally because it's way more efficient and my wrist nerve is fucked up...but it's way harder to get exposure digitally so I've had to move to paint. ink thing from a couple years back I guess I'll just post one thing per day from now on to not be too spammy. Maybe it will revitalize me further and then I can post new things.

Ah, thank you ( : I will do my best...I actually read all these messages in the morning and it motivated me a bit. lol sweet, I loved that game and I'm pretty sure I still have some very shoddy pencil drawings of the Water Dragon, Orochi and Ninetails somewhere. Thanks! Thanks, both my grandma's had a lot of furniture / paintings / snuff bottles around the house with Bunjinga art on them, but it's not something I ever attempted to do myself. Maybe it influenced me subconsciously over time? haha. Nah, but it may stem from that I used exclusively ink and pens only for a long period of my life I guess. I don't usually think about anything before I begin something personal. (Unless it's a pre-imagined scene, 2nd pic was one of those. but took a year before I even bought a canvas for it lol.) Thank you. Ha it's really interesting that people see that in my art, I've really never thought of it to be that way. Maybe it's the colors I use? Being that red with gold accenting is my favorite scheme with pretty much anything + bold black maybe it's unavoidable My favorite artists are Wayne Barlowe, Denis Forkas Kostromitin, Francis Bacon, Suehiro Maruo and such. I'll magnetize to anyone who makes or sees things in the same vein as me lol

    DADAROMA

Listening to the sample again, it just sounds like they're trying so hard to make the song catchy. Then the yelling after about a minute in is just a complete turn off and makes the song worse. MASTURBATION was catchy, but this one? Not feelin' it. I'm definitely not pre-ordering nor getting the one with the DVD. I was really disappointed after dadaism#3 (I only liked MASTURBATION, sadly, wish it were a single) and Pornograph. Pornograph actually wasn't bad, but wasn't really the kinda sound I liked either. But then ii kusuri to warui kusuri really revived my hopes for their sound to go back in the direction I liked. I've listened the shit out of that release and it was my first DDRM purchase. Fingers crossed the other songs save this release. EDIT: Just listened to the samples that are up on their youtube channel now. I'm completely disappointed. I'll give it a listen after release, but it looks like it's a huge pass for me. Only sample I liked was KIDS WAR and it doesn't even sound like it fits on this mini-album IMO.

    hey

I haven't participated in a forum community in a long time, because most feel insufferable to be in and No Fun Allowed. I lurked here and it feels like 00's internet community which is awesome. I'm also really interested in music recs, I need a lot of audio fuel to complete my work. Being my first I listened to, I like Gackt (up to Crescent anyway), Malice Mizer, mixed bag on Kagerou (Shibire Kokoro and XII Dizzy probably my fav). For new stuff, 黒百合と影 is my absolute dream, I fell in love as soon as I listened and I'm extremely bummed they're gonna split. I haven't agreed to having a new favorite band in at least 8 or 9 years until now...why guys! Sukekiyo I also love, because I have been chasing after the old MUSE sound and passion ever since they shit the bed in 2009 but never thought I'd find anything close. For me Kyo has it. Hidauta, and Leather Field are my top favorites but it's hard to really choose. Like some Nocturnal Bloodlust but some sounds too American screamo major key for me. (No I don't really know about terms, just what I like- but I'm sure you get what I mean.) NG+ and Malice Against are favs. Mejibray's Raven, (that's it) DADAROMA, I share the bitter fan sentiment. Love 溺れる魚, Belka and Strelka, some from Stanczyk and Pornograph. I even like Masturbation but for me in meaning it's like some weird inverse of QOTSA "I'm Designer" lol. Like some SCAPEGOAT, and 雅 tl;dr I like operatic singing, heavy bass and minor key, unstable? sound. Got any recs for good shit please let me know I'll try anything. To finish, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. (not VK, but it's obvious why I like Kyo's voice) Cheers

Seems like they are getting a lot of hate here - I'm not a fan of THE KINKY either, but the rest of the previews sound a lot better than their last mini! The overall sound seems to be quite heavy this time around, definitely looking forward to this one.

Wow your stuff is amazing. Very abstract and reminds of the brush strokes from Japanese calligraphy with a touch of Ukiyo-e and Bunjinga art. Were those you inspirations?

I always have 1 or 2 songs I don't like on their mini-albums but this one doesn't have that for me! (According to the previews, who knows what the full songs will bring lol) Gonna buy this!

Well they can't all be winners. I think I'm one of the few that actually liked MASTURBATION and DADAISM #3. The lyrics were golden. I can't say that about this song, but at least they're actively releasing music. Let them release a few clunkers. We'll still get KIDS WAR, though!

    Platylicious Picks of 2017

I have decided to join the late round-up squad and bring to you my favourite musical discoveries of 2017. Last year, I decided that I needed to really expand my horizons and hear what's out there besides visual kei. (gasp) It wasn't easy at first but once I stepped out into the vast world of music I came across some fantastic gems that I just wanted to share with everyone else. So here it is, my very personal list of stuff I think is worth a try (in no particular order). ゲスの極み乙女。- 達磨林檎 The first time I listened to Gesu No Kiwami Otome, I thought I could tell exactly what they were about. The vocalist's style of singing screams "bowl cut, 10ft tall glasses and jeans that are too short for him" and I tend to approach this type of group with a negative mindset because they all sound the freakin' same. Anyways, I pushed through my prejudice to hear the whole album and my mind was blown. They're high energy, jazzy and quirky and sometimes such a sweet pop-rock that my ears bleed rainbows. Best of all is the acapela flourishes from the backing vocals which reminded me of the tv series Glee! (my guilty pleasure). Favourite Track: 心地艶やかに | Spotify 東京ゲゲゲイ They're my favorite discovery of '17. I just wanna get out on the street and preach the gospel of Tokyo Gegegay. Well, they're very gay. The frontman is a drag queen. It's pretty hard getting info on them if you don't speak Japanese, so I'd appreciate if anyone could share anything they know about this group! Their MVs are a must-watch because of their 10/10 dance performances. I'm so sorry for my shitty reviewing skills... I'll just let the experience speak for itself. Favourite Track: ダンスが僕の恋人 (warning: NSFW) 女王蜂 - Q It's almost impossible to find any of their stuff on youtube unless you're in Japan, so this video is relevant because they re-recorded this song with DAOKO for their album Q. 女王蜂, aka Queen Bee are popular for Avu's vocal gymnastics, alternating from deep masculine growls to a feminine falsetto in a matter of seconds. This album though, isn't as extravagant as their previous work. It feels more polished and mature. I miss 'the old' 女王蜂 but change is always good and this release is definitely worth a listen. Favourite Track: 雛市 | Spotify モノクロパンダ - モノクロパンダ Monoqlopanda are awkwardly charming. If they don't make you feel some kind of way you don't have a soul. Favourite Track: 空の泳ぎ方 | Spotify Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds from Another Planet Another one of my goals for 2017 was to listen to more female fronted acts because I barely know any at all. 'Soft Sounds from Another Planet' was one that stood out to me simply because of how chill it is. Although they have that lo-fi vibe there's still plenty of room for experimentation so that their sound doesn't become stale. Favorite Track: Diving Woman | Spotify Rina Sawayama - RINA This lady here will take you right back to the tacky era of the early 2000's pop/ R&B except with a futuristic twist and a more palatable sound. Actually this release mixes a lot of elements from 80s pop music all the way through to the late 90s. Glistening synths, strong vocal melodies and punchy drums give way to dreamy soundscapes. Her lyrics for this album are all about cyber isolation and other phenomena that me and you as millenials who experienced the infancy of the internet and social media can relate to. It's catchy af and her voice reminds me of all j-pop divas that I used to like back in the day. There's a lot of influences to this album and it comes together to create something very nostalgic yet modern. Favourite Track: 10-20-40 | Spotify 椎名林檎 - 人生は夢だらけ Sheena Ringo is one of the top female artists in Japan ( at least she used to be, sharing the top three with queen Ayumi Hamasaki). Here in the forum you might remember a cover of one of her songs released by Sibile Bashir and that's how I discovered her. She might seem like a just another pop icon at first, but she has been experimenting with genres for years now. Her voice also has unique qualities that make her stand out from say, the likes of Utada Hikaru (no hate, I used to like her). She's not afraid to sound rough, belting out melodies and then going back to singing softly and in a fragile manner. This album is an example of her successful experimentation with various styles. I can't fault it. As far as I know she composes everything herself, the talented queen. Favourite Track: おいしい季節 | Spotify tricot - 3 They're an all female band, which is why I decided to try them but they're a lot more than that. I can't put it into words lol As a listener I just feel the joy these musicians feel for their material come through each performance so give them a listen and feel with me. (ps. they're classed as math rock and I hear people love that genre) Favourite Track: MUNASAWAGI | Spotify グリモア - グリモワール In case I haven't said it enough grimoire are at the top of my favorite bands due to the flawless year they had in 2017. Their first album is a statement, solidifying their dreamy-dark concept and sound perfectly and is packed with killer guitar riffs. They re-recorded two singles 'Never End' and ' Boku to Tulpa' and actually noticeably improved both of them, I mean, how often do we get successful re-recordings in the vk sphere? Vocalist Rynk is the weaker part of the band, but even his child-like voice has shown growth in the short time span from the album to their last single 'uranometoria' (srsly suisou no umi gave me chills). I think it's unfair to label them as another gimmicky spooky kei band, but if you're looking for that kind of thing grimoire is the best man-child act in the scene right now. (sorry baboo) Favourite Track: あましずくとマクガフィン DADAROMA - いいくすりと、わるいくすり The single is a typical ddrm release, although a little better than their stuff previous to this. Ii kusuri might have the heaviness so many fans have been wanting but warui kusuri was the standout track for me. Yoshiatsu's voice is charged with emotion and reading the lyrics hit my inner fangirl right in the feels (it's about sharing an umbrella with someone who's in a bad place). Probably the best ballad they'll ever release. Favourite Track: わるいくすり ダウト - 伝統芸能 dauto has been around forever and this is their most energetic album to date. If you need something to cheer you up, look no further. Different from their previous album 'shingitai' it has more electro elements, it's like a battlefield of synths in the first track. But regardless, it's a fantastic release with all the good typical dauto stuff: BASS, positivity and delicious vocal work from kouki. That's right, kouki's vocals are beautiful as usual, sue me. (I won't include the pv because it's embarassing to watch) Favourite Track: 禁じられた遊び OSTs The only thing I listen to more than visual kei are video game soundtracks, so I decided to include my favourites for any OST fans out there. Let me know what you think of my list and feel free to recommend any OSTs you thought stood out in 2017!

didn't buy the last 2-3 DADAROMA releases and with this new minialbum it'll be the same... somehow they completely lost their "fire" they've had in the beginning... ...although for them i guess its the right direction in sense of gaining quick more popularity, fans and attraction....
