My feelings are honestly a bit of a mess. its hard to put anything into words. its sad that it has ended this way, but in a way it’s not surprising...it’s kinda hard to explain really. I remember a convo from many many years ago when we were talking about someone we knew who was quitting the scene to become “a normal person” i remember thinking at that time, that’s never going to be you...I just always kinda assumed he would continue working his own pace well into old age... regardless, he was not famous or a big name that many would recognize, but he was a chill guy who made music that mattered to the people who listened to it and to him, I thought that was enough to make him happy. so all I can really hope for as a old friend is that he can finally rest and find true happiness.......

    MH JRock Awards 2018

🎁As an early gift to the community, MH will once again be hosting the MH JRock Awards for 2018!🎁 Now, before you start voting, read the rules provided in the spoiler below, or else Yuyo will ... idk yet but just read it anyways. Once you have read the general rules, here's how to vote: 1. Copy the list of categories below into your reply 2. Fill in your votes (you can skip as many categories as you'd like) 3. Submit. (Try to keep your votes organized under spoiler tags in order to save space for other voters) Your posts will stay hidden until the end of the voting. Here are your categories to choose from: Voting will last until Sunday, January 13th of the New Year (2019) This will allow everyone to take their time, since some of us are still waiting on some final releases to come out this month. Note: "Album" includes both full and mini-albums. For simplicity reasons, we follow the "Once Visual Kei, always Visual Kei" rule. So yes, that makes bands like Dir en grey or L'Arc~En~Ciel a Visual Kei band, just for the purpose of this voting. If you missed/skipped 2017 or are just joining the forum and have never heard of this, then take part this year! If you have any questions about the 2018 MH Jrock Awards, feel free to contact myself or any of the MH Staff! Happy Voting!

04 Limited Sazabys is actually a fairly direct name. Gen mentioned a while back on Twitter that it comes from this: The original drummer was a big Gundam fan, but apparently he misspelled "Sazabi" and I guess it was too late to change it when they noticed.

    🔯2019 Predictions!🔯

Kizu drops another single, followed by an album DIMLIM continues to be underappreciated and faces some setbacks, doesn't disband but 2020 looking dire Ayabie follows up their comeback concerts with a full revival that doesn't go anywhere, releases a couple of disappointing singles a la Lolita 23q and quietly disbands again Nostalgia for oshare continues, new bands start emulating worst parts of that trend and a couple of nobodies from 10+ years ago try and milk the trend by reviving unwanted projects Halfway decent band with promise gets brought over for their first oversea show, at an american anime con, they announce disbandment on the way to america. BABOO vocalist comes back as a solo artist, concept is full on adult-diaper fantasy Jin's new band is met with even more passive reactions than tbs, after 10+ years of frustration he stops singing and starts working behind the scenes Kisaki's reputation becomes so tarnished no one works with him, so he doubles down on the fraud leading to actual consequences

I love them to this day, but I always thought "9GOATS BLACKOUT" was an awful name for a band. This has been confirmed every single time someone shows interest in what I'm listening to. "Death★Rabbits" is so bad it's good. "KuRt" always bothered me for multiple reasons; impossible to search for and they really don't sound anything like Nirvana or Kurt Cobain, nor are their lyrics similar/evocative of them in any way. Now that I think about it, Tenten's bands always have awful names, even to this day. "MASK" and" SCISSOR" loopash two for one- unsearchable, generic, doesn't really fit the band's latter output. and finally "Unsraw", it's a nasty sounding word, say it out loud.

Won't make a separate thread for it, but a new DVD-R "dieS vs MUNIMUNI [2016/11/11 NEO TOKYO CHOP DOME]" has just been released on 2018/12/13. It contains footage from the two bands' special anniversary two-man gig back at the end of 2016. Tracklist: 01. フッフー 02. 発情 03. POWER 04. NEW ORDER LOVE SONG 05. Matador-マタドール- 06. SOUND MASTURBATION 07. & 4 08. バーサーカー 09. ドラムバトル 10. in my head 11. in my head Tracks 1, 3, 4, 7 are MUNIMUNI songs, tracks 2, 5, 6, 8, 10/11 are dieS songs. Track 9 is called "drum battle" so I assume it's some kind of 'drum-off' between the two bands' drummers, since apparently the stages where the gigs took place were facing each other. I guess the last song being repeated might be some sort of jam session with both bands on-stage, but not sure. Order @ zoisite shop

    Worst Band Names in VK?

Obscure would be a good example of this. They're the band Lay and 4ge formed after Fatima disbanded with singer/guitarist Nobara, and the only way I could find any trace of their music was by Googling "obscure nobara". To top it all off, Lay and 4ge changed their stage names to Cake and Zizimakia respectively. Other shitty band names: * BUNNEIES * 0801弐209336 * Crazy★Shampoo * Un=(XAG) I found those all on a list a while back, as well as some others that have already been mentioned. These guys are also on that list I found. They disbanded a while back, but they honestly weren't that bad. Not the best, but they had some pretty good songs. I would recommend Daphnis, Grisaille and Cock. Yes, Cock. Also, who could forget Bump Of Chicken? They were originally gonna be called Cowards Strike Back, but it got mistranslated as Bump Of Chicken. I mean... I guess I get it? A coward can be described as chicken, and if you strike something, you may bump it... ETA: Also, do you guys remember Dirty Darkling

Alternative: hide profits because taxes are optional, sell physical copies of selfies, befriend every other label-head so your groups are a special guest at every big event, write 4~6 songs with the intention of having your signed bands use them and then modify the melodies slightly for each ghost-written instance, have every band signed to you appear in every vkei publication, then get caught in a sex scandal and hope you're picked up by a reality TV outlet once you're done getting meToo'd. #matina101

That is a terrible band name. I love it. Which reminds me, LiN from UNiTE used to be in a band called LeMpicka? (including that question mark). It doesn't sound all that stupid when you say it out loud, but I just don't understand this trend of weird capitalisation/punctuation. Then again, this is LiN from UNiTE we're talking about. They're a great band and all, but their song titles are just word salad and LiN is... weird. But he's a funny weird. I like him. But anyways. You know how Zero from Lycaon/Initial'L used to be known as Rito? Well, before that, he was in a band (the name of which slips my mind) in which his name was Richard. IIRC, the other band members had stupid names as well.

It requires a lot of self discipline, this was especially true when I was doing freelancing. Monotony is the name of the game, it's a very slow job most of the time. Get used to providing useful feedback that gets ignored, resulting in retesting and reporting the same issues ad nauseam. Luckily, the actual QA aspect of my job has lessened over the years as I've transitioned into a more task oriented position and gained enough knowledge of the software to make fixes myself, but I still have to test/report occasionally and it's my least favorite part of my job. On the plus side, it's the perfect job if you like podcasts! It's also a job that won't be going away any time soon, so stability is nice, there's always QA work.

I went to one of his shows. It's really not hard music anymore, but he is covering a wide variety of music styles. So it was worth going there to have a good time (also cheap tickets), but nothing I stan.

    New band "SHiSHi" have formed

I'm in love. Also, looks like one of my 2019 predictions is starting to come true already! I predicted that a band would form that tried to mix oshare kei/brutal kei; not only that, but they'd be good. With the growls, I can sort of imagine them going in a sliiiightly brutal kei direction; not enough to overpower the oshare elements... but who knows? Anyways, I stan. I knew I would the moment I laid eyes on the style icon that is Ohana.

    Single People Thread

Ack, this thread existed? I think I'll be in this club for a while *pulls up a chair and sits down* Still single and probably will be for a while. Currently, I'm focusing on school and would like to wait until I feel my life is steadier (if a relationship happens). A friend of mine asked me if I ever planned to date and/or get married, and it got me thinking that whatever happens will happen. If it happens, then that's great. If it doesn't, then that's fine with me (personally). I've never had any serious relationships. I almost had one a long time ago, but it fell through due to complicated reasons as usual ^^; I think the mentality of "you have to be dating someone" is a bit odd. Each individual has the choice of whether they want to be in a relationship with someone or not. No one else has that right to tell you (in general, no one in particular) that "you should be dating someone" since you are the one who will be experiencing the relationship, not anyone else. Also, I don't want to be in a relationship with someone to validate my existence. I feel quite content with who I am and I don't want someone else telling me about myself. I'm up for changing into being a better person or compromising with other people to make things work, but I think you should stick true to who you are and not morph into someone else completely different that makes you feel unhappy/uncomfortable. I've seen people be in a relationship and completely change themselves because of their partner. It makes me sad to see this because I believe people in a relationship are equals, not subservient to their partner. (I'm speaking in general terms and not about any specific circumstances/situations.) (Yikes, this post was longer than I intended 😅 I apologize if I didn't make any sense. It's almost three am over here, and I'm somewhat tired, but I wanted to respond, lol.)

The cost/economics of being in a VK band

Here is one way: 1. Start band and label. Apply for a loan to fund label. Can be bank, can be from a sempai, can be from parents, etc. 2. Budget real good. 3. Use some label funds for band activities. Use profits from band activities to pay back those internal loans. 4. Bust ass working hard doing your day and night jobs. If you do it right, you could earn back the money you put into your band to pay off the first loan, and then your label is ready for the next step. I suspect these bands that run their own label are also putting up personal money to fill the gap.
  49. 1 point
$12,000 ~ $18,000 seems like a reasonable assumption, plus there may be additional fees for hosting shows (idk if this is different if you're invited to play at a venue), having your CDs distributed, instrument repair, and actual travel costs of touring (hotel, food, gas, public transit, and damage that ensue as a result of moving heavy instruments around). I've read that some labels and venue owners do "favors" for small and up-and-coming bands and cover a lot of fees, but as a result they have to perform at their specific live-house or repay their debts + interest (I think this was covered in ~that article~ about the vkei industry). That also explains why a lot of bands always perform in the city they formed in, unless they completely relocate (e.g. Sui moving to Tokyo to perform as David).
