Anyone here ever got a headache / hurt their ears listening to VK? Not talking 'lol bad music hurrrr' here, I'm talking like 'music causing actual physical discomfort'. For me one band that seems to cause it is 12012 with their earliest material. Something about the production on their older releases just makes me feel uncomfortable, maybe it's that weird tin can-like filter over the vocals.

DUDE. I literally was about to say "sounds like every undercode release ever".
basically, a lot of UCP releases, 12012's early stuff is a perfect example is mastered LOUD AS SHIT. in addition to it being really really really compressed, the frequency spectrum of those songs has a lot of information in the 2-5khz area which is the most sensitive area to our human hearing. a little too much resonance at 2500khz is a whoooole lot more annoying and sometimes literally painful than too much resonance at say 250hz. im sure you can find lots of information about this online, if you search "loudness war" "listening fatigue".
as abrasive as it is, It's kind of part of the early 12012 sound to me

dreamt that Deg are releasing two PVs for the coming album, first video was a very dark black and white one with a slow and heavy a.f. instrumental (kinda like sludgier and grittier blossoming belzebub), the other one had a CM with fifteen seconds of kyo screaming his lungs out over tibetan bowl/windchime interlude
I literally didn't listen to their output post-WTD more than a few times, and def not recently, but my subconscious is telling me it's time to start stanning again i guess?????? idk I'm so confused
(it's the first music-related dream I'm having in a very long time and I am, like, very shook!!!)

I wish more bands were creative with the intro SE tracks. The combined time I've spent listening to 90 seconds of budget electronic as a prelude to a pretty-good-not-great VK album probably adds up to days.
