  1. Got a "deadly game" movie craving again, and the last few western ones I watched were atrocious, so I watched some Asian ones.

Death Bell (2008) - Frustrating. I actually thought the main characters were really charming, but all the other characters are just so obviously filler that it's almost insulting. For some reason only like 3 out of 20 students care enough to help solve most of the puzzles, with the teachers doing most of the work? The killings were also bizarrely brutal, and I don't understand how the murderers were able to be in so many places at once.

Me & 23 Slaves (2014) - I kind of liked this one, despite the ridiculous amount of Japanese thriller cliches (awkward incest romance, girl prostituting herself for host jerk's love, evil cult leader, crazy sadistic loner torturing people in bizarrely elaborate ways, evil scientist brainwashing people, random fanservice crossdressing, etc). Basically, these retainer-like devices turn people into masters and slaves, based on who wins a game, and the goal is to turn all 23 players into your slave. The most interesting part of it is that the challenged player chooses the game, and there's a bit of room for them to play with the wording. Plus Kanata Hongo is one of the leads, and he's perfect for the role. The guy was born to play angsty, sneaky brats.

As the Gods Will (2014) - Students play twisted versions of various Japanese children's games to decide who lives. I thought this was one of the better movies I've seen in this genre (although I guess the bar is not really set that high). The CGI monsters are so cartoonish and over the top, and there's a Gantz-like hint of humour throughout the film that's really refreshing. Plus, despite the many, many deaths, the way most of them are shot is very stylized, which is a plus for me since I'm not a fan of gore.

  2. I don't really eat candy anymore, but Cherry Blasters were my favourite as a kid. Especially the ones that were just thin little red circles (the ones with the green "leaves" always seemed to be a little harder).

I'm still up for chocolate every now and then though. I buy Twix or Mars bars sometimes to tide me over during long bus or train rides.

  3. Ex-Suck a Stew Dry guitarist Fuse Tatsuaki's band yorunitokeru is releasing a new mini-album titled "perfect white fictions" on April 30th.

They released a free mini-album in 2015, and I guess it must have done good things for them, because they uploaded all the tracks from the new release for free streaming today. They'll be up until the release date, if anyone is interested.

^I always get the feeling that Fuse watched one angsty VK MV too many as a teenager...

  4. Hmm, I just noticed that someone else translated this into English in the Youtube comments, and now I feel like I definitely have some of the perspectives switched around the wrong way...

    They had

“BUSU no kuse ni! Chikayoruna yo! Kane o otose!”

as from the guy's perspective, which makes way more sense in hindsight.

I read it as the girl because I didn't see why he'd being say "Even though" she's ugly, and I thought the last part was her desperately trying to lure him out on a date by flashing money at him, but it should probably go more like:

“Don’t be distant? Don’t leave me? Don’t leave me alone?”

"You say that even though you're so ugly! Don't come near me! Spend some money!"

    My bad.

I'm not kidding when I say my Japanese sucks.

  5. I really have a hard time believing that this is more than one person.

On the off chance that it actually is two 13 year olds fighting over a computer, just save up some money and buy your own. You can get a cheap laptop for less than $300 these days - it's not that hard.

i wanna wear some lolita but

    1) it's expensive as shit

    2) my dyke ass rarely wears dresses

    3) my fat ass probably won't fit it either

I've never bought any lolita clothes, but you can get really cheap outfits from this website, if you just want to try out some super kawaii girly stuff for a party or something:

    http://www.yesstyle.com/en/list.html?bpt=48&q=lolita

    http://www.yesstyle.com/en/women-clothing/list.html/bcc.14071_bpt.46?oc=5

The quality of both the materials and construction of a lot of their stuff is really bad though, so I don't suggest washing any of it in a machine. I got a really adorable sweater from there, and it was basically destroyed in the wash. You also need to look really carefully at the close-up pictures and pay attention to the reviews before you buy anything to make sure the fabric is what you think it is.

Some of the clothes are really cute though. And they fit really well if you're a shorter girl. I'm only 5'3", and most of their stuff fits like it was made for me.

  7. I was kind of curious about this song. T/ssue aren't shy about mentioning the fact that they're from Nagoya, so I thought it was funny that they were writing about Tokyo.

The English translation I did is kind of sketchy. I'm fairly certain that at least the line in red is very wrong. If anyone has a correction for that, or any of the other lines, it would be greatly appreciated.

    東京city / Tokyo city

    Music and Lyrics: Sone Ichirou

You started to lose your way on the path,

So you started to become too cautious,

And things aren't going well, are they?

You’re listening to the sound of cars,

    Being poisoned by exhaust fumes,

But every day, you’re giving your all

Shining brighter than the stars up in the sky in a corner of this city

    In Tokyo,

    On the Tokyo Expressway,

If it feels like the city lights are blocking your view,

    Don’t say a word

    I’ll light up your days

Because you can hold on tight to this song

I can see the ruins of the star I looked up at when I was a child

The sky from that time has disappeared, hasn’t it?

One by one, we’re each going to settle on our way of life

    You will too

    You will too

Even though it’s cruel, time passes by,

That crowd of people will be left behind

I don't think there's any sort of deadline when you need to throw your dreams away*

    In Tokyo,

    On the Tokyo Expressway,

If it feels like the city lights are blocking your view,

    Don’t say a word

    I’ll light up your days

Because you can hold on tight to this song

    In Tokyo,

    On the Tokyo Expressway,

This burning emotion will light up your tomorrow

    So don’t say a word

I’ll be supporting you from the bottom of my heart

    While you’re in Tokyo City**

    Notes:

*I’m fairly certain that this is wrong

**It just says “Tokyo City”, but I assume this is what is being implied?

"Hey you like the GazettE? I'm friends with the vocalists sister and my friend is dating Reita." - an actual thing someone walked up and said to me in 2006 at Anime Expo.

    Yikes.

I usually go to the Q&A panels at Anime North. Some of the ace questions I remember people asking:

"Will you marry me?" to Hal from umbrella

"What's your favourite colour?" (not just once, but twice in the same Q&A session) to UCHUSENTAI:NOIZ, who were all dressed in a specific colour with matching hair...

  9. It's kind of awkward-sounding, and I'm not too confident about the lines I starred, but I think the general idea is there.

    スカート / Skirt

Your skirt swings, and you’re going to run off
The wind was swinging your skirt because it was spring
I’m holding onto that memory now,
    But it’s already goodbye
    Already goodbye

The season of parting, the season of meeting
People will repeat them both over and over again
    I know that, but
I can’t forget about that season

Your skirt swings, and you’re going to leave
The wind was swinging your skirt because it was spring
I’m holding onto that memory now,
    But it’s already goodbye
    Already goodbye

The season of our parting, the season of our meeting
    I’ll remember it countless times
Trying to shake free, I run through it again,*
But there’s already no going back

Your skirt swings, and you’re going to leave
Those tears were soaking your cheeks because it was spring
I’m holding onto that memory now,
    But it’s already goodbye
    Already goodbye

Your skirt swings, and you’re going to leave
Don’t look back, you’re going to change once more**
The idea that everyone can become happy,
    I already don't believe in that…

Your skirt swings, and you’re going to leave
Since this song filled with my true feelings
    Is still left behind here
    Well, goodbye
    Well, goodbye

I’m holding onto that memory now,
    But it’s already goodbye
    Already goodbye

^A fan did these by ear, and there are a few small mistakes ("mata" is written twice, and an "o" is missing), but it's close enough to be helpful. Someone also typed it out by ear in the comments of the Youtube video.
