I want to start using last.fm again, but I'd have to correct all my music tags.
ALL of my Vkei tags....

Oh yeah, I used to have that app. The way it tagged album art was weird though. It'd always be compressed and if anything happened to the song file, the art would be gone.
Also, I have no idea if that's compatible with mp3tag scripts, since I trust the vk.gy tagging script. Other auto-taggers would wrongly tag my Visual Kei music. The auto-tagging software on the PC I use to rip music with thinks that a Kuroyuri to Kage single is Michael Jackson, and that Cuartet is the RnB group "Shai" lol

Who the fuck decided that for architecture or design to be "modern", it has to have no curves or intricate decorations, and has to be completely made up of straight lines and right angles?
Bruh if the future is jut a bunch of squares, I wanna live in the past

I'm mostly just disillusioned by seeing so many old homes being taken down and replaced with really ugly looking ones. Like, I get that cheapness and efficiency is importance, but I wish they would figure out a cheap and efficient style that you can add on, and I wish they would at least keep the artistic vision of the buildings they're replacing. Especially with old Victorian homes. I fucking hate seeing Victorian homes get replaced with bland, gentrified squares.
My problem with a lot of modern exterior and interior designs is, there is no room for adding on, because they're made in such a specific way that anything added to it would look oddly out of place.
Take this victorian home for example. I could easily see myself using this as a blank canvas for interpreting my artistic vision on the house. While it's very rooted in English styles, it's neutral enough to where a change in color scheme and the addition of decorations could turn it into any style I want. That's the ethos a lot of colonial architecture in India and Vietnam take. They take a British or French base, and add on traditional elements to their liking. However, if you wanted, you could totally turn this into something modern or even futuristic looking, with the right know-how and artistic vision.
But then you have houses like this, which you can't really do much to without it looking weird. I can't add any "old world" decorations to it because it would look massively out of place. The style is kind of forced to me minimalistic.
And yes, I get that with buildings, function matters more over aesthetics, but I do feel like there should be a balance between efficiency and artistic design. And I would at least like to see some curves and shapes that aren't rectangles. I mean, not every house can have a completely flat roof, that just doesn't fit for the climate of every place lol.
-
Plus, one thing I've noticed, ironically, this this new "cheap" style of architecture, is actually mainly a thing of the rich. Most of the towns I see with old-school architecture, are often the poorer parts of town (I mean, I am poor so I have lots of experience in those places lol).
But then you go to where the rich people live, and you see these people paying out the fucking ass for buildings that look so... square. So while theoretically it may be cheaper to build, the people commissioning them can afford to actually have some artistic taste.
I actually find that poor people who save up to add on to their old houses, put more effort in making it look tasteful than the rich people who just plop a fucking square anywhere, even if it looks out-of-place.
And look, if I were rich enough, I would just have my own house built in whatever architectural style I want, but sadly, I'm not. I'm disabled and lower class, so if I ever do get lucky enough to own a home, I have to work with what's given to me. All I ask is for a neutral style that I can actually work with lol. One that I could make as minimalist or as maximalist as I want.

If you so dearly miss the old Myspace and want a little nostalgia, make a Friendproject profile. It's a code-for-code ripoff of Myspace 1.0.
Or you could do what all the cool kids are doing and make a Carrd, but fuck that, I'm using a myspace ripoff made by some weird christian guy that only minors use so I can relive a part of my childhood lmao. Just... without all the cool Pokemon RPers and stuff.
Check out my profile! It's the most mid 2000's Vkei weeb shit you can get. It's super fun, but the site doesn't have much else to offer.

I'll be sure to accept the request! Hopefully more adults catch onto this site, because even though it's very archaic, I feel like it's got some strengths that modern social media could learn from.

Wow... YouTube is now showing ads giving really misogynistic and downright rapey dating advice.
If you get an ad for "the desire system", that's the one.
Isn't it funny how content creators have to follow these super specific guidelines just to get advertising, but the ads can literally flat out go "How to control women's minds!" And just.... wow...
Just watch this video

Hime has it down. My biggest gripe is that she says stuff like "If you don't wear modest clothing, don't expect men to not objectify you or treat you as an equal" yet she wears modest clothes and people objectify her as nothing but a MASSIVE (and I mean massive) rack all the time.

So Kyo was once featured in a Vasalla Song:
-
I remember Sin was in Syndrome too, wasn't he? I know Ruiza was.
Hopefully the vocalist is still into music and doesn't mind coming back for one more collab. And I think Kyo secretly wants to go back to doing 90's style Vkei, since a lot of Sukekiyo's stuff has that 90's Vkei gothic rock influence. Also, there are some pics of modern Kyo wearing 90's makeup, and he still looks good in it. In fact, I can sort of feel as if he likes wearing it still
-
Yeah I think only Kisaki wasn't in D haha
Hmm their singer Hideki re-recorded some songs on their 2010 ep Rise of Insanity, did you check it that out? I think he still sings okay. ^^ Wow I never thought Kyo would go back to vk looks. I remember when his pics were of he shirtless with sunglasses and without any makeup lol When i saw that I thought dir en grey started to hate vk and would never go back to their roots -
I'll have to check out that EP~
Also, I think the only reason why Dir En Grey said they weren't Vkei was because they were trying to expand onto an American audience, which expects masculinity and Brootality. I think that's why Kyo formed Sukekiyo, so he can live out the old days. I mean, his first idol was Kiyoharu from Kuroyume, which we all know Kuroyume for their mix of Alt. Metal, Thrash Metal and Gothic Rock.
I think Dir En Grey's transition into Nu Metal in the 2000's though was natural, since Nu Metal is a derivative of Alternative Metal. Hence why it still felt natural. The Deathcore stuff... felt unnatural. And the fact it's progressive means that it's kind of a dead end, because now people expect brootality and shredding.
I wonder what would happen if Kisaki stayed in Diru. Would they be as big as they are today? Would they still be Vkei? What would they sound like?
I guess that's why I loved Phantasmagoria. They were like the prog version of a Kote-Kei band xD. I notice a lot of former 90's Vkei musicians tend to kind of keep the old elements in their new bands, like Kon did for Cell. Even though Cell was Metalcore, it still felt 90's-ish

Remember kids, everything on Tanuki is 100% true and is a good primary source. Yes, kids, that's right. And remember, ever Vkei guy is gay, married to a woman, married to a guy, homophobic, and single, all at the same time!
Also, according to Fox News, CNN and MSNBC (Who we all know are also 100% True) recommend the best way to achieve longevity is to drink this substance called Cyanide!
-
@KomorebiI usually take what they say with a grain of salt and some skepticism. However, I feel as if going out of their way to get into Vkei guy's personal business, or leaking nudes is just utterly wrong and needs to stop.

@Spectralion Oh yeah, they were. They were signed to Eternal, which was owned by Yayoi, guitarist of La'Miss Fairy, and formerly of Mirage. In turn, Eternal was a sublabel of Matina.
Eternal also had Deadly Sanctuary, which had both Yayoi and Yuuga (who would go on to form Devil Kitty and we all know who signed to Rockstar Records (Also owned by Yayoi) when they came back), and Etcetera, which was the old band of Yukika, who now owns Ains, and was the first guy to sign R-Shitei and Alsdead.
So, they had some pretty important people on there xD

Unpopular opinion: Saver Tiger, Mephistopheles, D'erlanger, and Dead End are just as important as, if not more important than X Japan.
I mean, Saver Tiger formed before X, didn't they?-
@orange~ Saver Tiger actually formed in 1980 xD
But I think Vkei really turned away from its original path when Buck Tick and Kuroyume came onto the scene. I mean, before that, it was mostly an offshoot from the Japanese Thrash Metal, Hardcore Punk and Speed Metal scene, but then you have Buck Tick with this Gothic sound, and Kuroyume combining the sounds. I think it's funny how in the west, Thrash Metal was considered a response to Glam when in Japan, bands like Aion combined the two.
-
@SeimeisenI care about X, but I care about the other early bands just as much.
Just like how I care about Dir En Grey, but I also care about La'Mule just as much because they were just as influential, if not more.
I mean, if you're popular enough in the indie scene for bands to copy you even before you even make enough records, that says something xD

Western "Metalhead" logic: Black Sabbath and Metallica. Sound nothing alike, both considered Metal. Bullet for my Valentine, sounds something like Metallica. Not considered "trve metal".
Actually, this is kind of the logic of fanboys in the western side of the music scene anyway. The only reason I don't see it in Vkei is because it's accepted that the lines between genres are blurred.
-
@reminiscing2004 I know right? I only use them as a convenient way to group similar bands, but in the end, it all boils down to Rock and Roll.

I definitely don't see BFMV as punk, wtf? I think many of the metalcore bands are closer to metal than punk anyday. Maybe if you wanted to simplify their genre definition, I'd just say they're rock or something.
For me technical instrumentals + heavy music = metal
but then again, I don't really care about genres.. so who am I to say?

I just thought of a really cool idea. What if someone mixed both the old and new versions of Dir en Grey's Zan? By taking the vocals of the old version and putting them over the instrumentals of the new version. Perhaps making it where Kyo alternates between singing and growling.
I could probably do this, if I had the correct audio programs to extract the vocals from the old Zan. But.. my laptop that allowed me to do that is broken, so.. yeah it'll forever be just an idea
-
Yeah. Part of me thinks a mix of Kiri to Mayu would also work, since the remake seems like it would be where I could splice up the song structure. The remake of Tsumi to Batsu could also function as a little intro for the original. Gah, why must my laptop be broken, and all I'm left with is a chromebook? xD

AN has brought more than one band for most of the years I've gone (I think the only recent exception was the year with just Matenrou Opera?), so there might still be some VK. Honestly, even if it's just BACK-ON this year, we got metronome last time, so I can't say it bothers me.
Yeah, Avanchick definitely went to the US. There's like a full video of it up on Tokyo in Tulsa's Youtube. As far as I know, NOAH never went overseas as a solo artist, he just started selling some solo merch overseas through Chaotic Harmony.
It does seem like there's been a bit of a decline, but there are definitely still a few other conventions in North America that usually bring VK bands.

It's really crazy listening to proto-kei bands like G-Schmitt and BOOWY, playing melodies and riffs that would become cliche in Visual Kei, many of them still cliches today.
-
Their music and aesthetic did influence early Vkei bands though. Like, listen to the song Catholic. Visual Kei literally partially grew from Japanese Goth bands. Obviously G-Schmitt pre-dates Visual Kei, but their music was definitely an important step. Many of the first Visual Kei musicians were goth, and probably listened to Japanese goth bands as well as your standard western goth bands.
Obviously G-Schmitt isn't full on Visual Kei, but to say they didn't influence Visual Kei at all, is really stretching it.
-
And then there's the great Auto-Mod, who had Tomoyasu Hotei on guitars before he moved on to Boowy. I always considered Auto-Mod/Genet to be the secret grandfather of visual kei. It always felt like Kiyoharu got his early warbly voice in Kuroyume more from Genet than the obvious Robert Smith. The Tribute to Auto-Mod album really drives that home with Kiyoharu's epic Deathtopia cover.
And then there's Libido who I've gotten into recently who was connected with YBO2 and the Transrecord scene of krautrock. Their songs definitely had gothic moments both aurally and visually. One of Libido's early guitarists actually was one of the founding members of G-Schmitt before moving on to other projects.

The only reason I consider Kuroyuri to Kage to be EroguroKei is because they're actually really inspired by Eroguro artists such as Suehiro Mario, and Edogawa Rampo. Also, they're influenced by Caligari and Inugami Circus Dan. However, I will say the term is often overused, and shouldn't refer to just any macabre band. Only ones actually influenced by Eroguro art
-
I didn't know this about Gichigichi tbh apart from the subject matter I had no idea it was a reference! That's cool considering it was one of my favorites from their album - kind of still one at this time lol!
