    Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say

Don't know whether this is a newb, troll, or is just delusional. (What's worse is that it comes from an argument on Vkei being Emo. Yeah to end it all, last time I checked, Emo was Rites of Spring, Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, AFI and Jawbreaker) And yes, definitely the ancient Japanese, the Jomon and Yayoi peoples, were playing heavy metal while wearing a lot of makeup. Forget all those archaeologists who said they only had 6 string Kotos and Clay flutes. This guy is obviously an expert on Vkei

I think sources should be obligatory for posting in this thread first of all, lol. I like the potential it has so it ought to b salvaged. cause it kind of feels like "post your thinly veiled opinions as shit that noob vk fans say" thread

Weren't they in competition with The GazettE from the get-go? Kinda like Diru vs. Pierrot. Maybe because of that competition they filled a void in the market and their popularity accelerated rapidly. Going major rather quickly isn't unheard of in vkei. Versailles also did it in just over 2 years, and there were a lot of bands in the mid-90's who got signed to big labels super quickly in spite of their lack of experience (and as a result, a lack of longevity). For example, Lúcide released an album (one of 2 releases they ever put out) through East West in 97/98 and then broke up.

    CLear

CLear played twice this week at Shinjuku RUIDO K4! (The 22nd and the 25th) They're super fun!! I hope they can get more fans soon!! Set list from 5/22 @ Shinjuku RUIDO K4: 1.星流る夜に 2.Dearest 3.妄想クローゼット 4.モノクロの未来 Post-live picspam: Before the live they also went to Little Hearts to distribute their new flyers! Set list from 5/25 @ Shinjuku RUIDO K4: 1.DizzlingDance 2.妄想クローゼット 3.チョコレヱトケーキ 4.Surround It was a much heavier set list than usual, probably cos of the bands they were playing with, and it was a lot of fun!! I was really glad I got to hear Dizzling Dance and Chocolate Cake live again!! Chocolate Cake's furi was kinda hard to remember lol but it was a lot of fun! <3333 The saizen weren't the regular saizen I think... no one really knew the furi lol, but it seemed like a lot of people were joining in! Also, Kaz (ex-Fenix) was their support bassist tonight! I think I like him more than their usual support, but oh well lol Post-live picspam: The members also went around to Like an Edison and Jishubanclub to distribute their flyers before the live tonight <3 (idk why Kaz is there instead of Wataru and/or Tsukimi lolol)

    Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say

I have seen X Japan three times now and every time X Japan is super late to start, there are more theatrics than music, and most X fans (Japanese or foreign) are annoying as fvck. A lot of them are cosplaying obangya (and when I say obangya, most of them are 40-60 y.o. women/grannies) and their tall hair blocks out pretty much any chance you might of had of seeing the stage. It's not as bad at arenas where the seats are tiered, but at the Visual Japan Summit last year everyone was just in a standing zone and I had to watch most of their performance through a screen. Also, their fans don't seem to understand the "switch out" system for taiban lives. X Japan were playing last, but some of their hime-sama fans had already decided to take up the front row at 10:00 a.m. when PLC came on. At a previous show I saw, Yoshiki decided to have some random/awful h.naoto fashion show in the middle of the concert, and even liking h.naoto at the time, it was still like wtf I didn't pay 12,000-15,000 yen for an hour-long intermission when X Japan only had like 8 songs to play in total. Then at every live they play, you have to listen to X Japan and their fans yelling "WE ARE X!" for like 30+ minutes. The only other person that I've seen put more emphasis on bad theatrics than performing is Gackt, but at least he played more than 8 songs and had better tour goods. TL;DR, they have good songs and I appreciate them paving the way for visual kei, but there is certainly a cult-like hype around them that isn't entirely deserved.

    Platy's Stuff

One of my resolutions this year was to start posting my work online and I thought I'd start in MH since I feel more comfortable here, also I haven't drawn for fun in a long time so I hope that I will start drawing more if I force myself to post it somewhere... I'm almost done with my degree in 3D Games Art so I'll be posting some of my work for that here, since I don't have time to draw much else. It takes up most of my life so I can't wait to be done with it. Disclaimers: I still suck at digital painting. I still suck at 3D modelling. But I'd love to get any kind of feedback on the stuff I post here!

    Greetings, everyone!

Making my first post on the site, I came here after seeing Ito's Jrock Heaven panel at ACEN this past weekend. I first started listening to Jrock and Japanese music in general after getting into it from L'Arc-en-Ciel's Ready Steady Go from the first FMA anime. Some of my favorite Jrock bands include L'Arc-en-Ciel, SID, FLOW, BRADIO, and Ling Tosite Sigure. I'm hoping to learn more about Jrock and get into some cool bands, thank you for having me!

    MEJIBRAY will go on hiatus

i've been kind of avoiding reading too much of people speculating (only skimmed over the 6 pages here really). people online seem to be in one of two groups and it's just ugh stop. (those groups: - "hope they don't come back they've been shit since (insert year)"/"hope they come back with better songs because everything new is shit" - NOOOOOO THEY'RE LEAVINGGGGG FOREVERRRRRRRRR MY HUSBAND COME BACK I'LL DIE) i went to some recent lives and the niigata live was definitely depressing with all the people crying (although dropping to your knees and screaming and refusing to move is a bit fucking ridiculous, some people) but understandable since it was the first one with no encore and everyone was kind of shocked. the band definitely didn't seem happy there. fukuoka live after 5 days rest since sendai they looked in better spirits for sure. i think they'll keep up the no encore until the tour final but maybe for the final play an encore. hoping/expecting some big announcement at the tour final or at least at the fc tour final in july. until then i'm avoiding speculating too much on what i think they're doing.

    It's probably misspelled. Look at the accounts that are linked to RYO:SUKE's Tweet. It's TOSHI, not SOSHI. They both were in ALDEBARAN, and have similiar names. And Toshi was their guitarist. I was happy too fast ;__;

    [Band Battle] MEJIBRAY vs. DIAURA

So hard to compare these two, because their concepts are so different. I used to like them both... But I must admit that DIAURA is better in my opinion. MEJIBRAY had an unique idea to presents their music and "visualistics" for their outfits & live shows, they showed some very unique style and each member had their own way to present themselves --- their outfits didn't match and that was one of the points. Their music was very energetic (as were their live shows too!) and their style varied a lot. It was clear that they had a certain "raw" or "wild" style they preferred and it really worked. After Nepenthes (or during last 2 years) though they seemed to only repeat their themes and tried to search something new to get inspiration --- leading them to lost their concept. Their visual style and music some what lost their basics. DIAURA used to be in search of themselves for first, but after re-releasing "Shitsuyoku no seiiki" they really seemed to know who and what they are. They have their own unique theme "dictatorial aura" that usually is about military-ish themed things. Of course they occasionally try something different (like the soft gentle ballad "Gekkou" etc.) but still they know and continue on their way steadily and still are able to bring new dimensions for VK genre/their own music.

    MEJIBRAY will go on hiatus

I think I'm in the minority here but I've enjoyed all their recent releases. Not as much as their past work like 420 and their .whatever minis. It it is a shame because I see their talent and they are one of the more impressive bands out there in the scene right now but if they need a break, go for it. Just don't pull a 12012 and Malice Mizer and never come back.

    Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say

Even though I consider myself an X Japan fan, I agree with your points.. I wouldn't ever attend an X Japan concert on it's own anyway, because of the crappy theatrics. Also, it's not the same without Hide. (Though, I do think that Hide is horribly misunderstood by Vkei fans. He was more than a sad guy, he was unstable, and needed therapy). Heck, X Japan themselves aren't as important as they're hyped up to be. I mean, Saver Tiger formed first, and D'erlanger and Dead End got popular way before X. Also, ToshI got his famous look from Kyo of D'erlanger. Before that, X looked much different. Heck, X even copied a few riffs from their fellow indie bands (Blue Blood taking their intro from Crows in Black by Rosenfeld) and they weren't any more than another indie early Vkei band until Hide came along. Heck, apparently, the term "Crime of Visual Shock" came from another band, though someone will have to confirm that for me. And while Extasy bands did go on to major labels and all, not even the labels prevented Zi:Kill and Glay from breaking up, and I don't ever hear about Tokyo Yankees anymore. Gilles de Rais was a failure too. The only former/current Extasy bands that still preform that I can think of on the top of my head are Luna Sea, X, Tokyo Yankees and Glay. Ultimately, Dynamite Tommy's Free Will label was more successful in the end, because they're still a driving force. While X may have been one of the first Vkei bands to go major, that isn't nearly as important as the driving force in the indie scene, as Vkei is built from the ground up. The indie bands are the backbone. I'm going on a soapbox here, but I felt this needed to be said.

Part 2. And on an OST video for Hyperdimension Neptunia: Just sort of weird how much people will big up the stuff they listen to, as if it's the sole source of a type of music, or that it's the best and the only best.

Welcome! I love like 6/10 of your list! (No idea if Eiji still has Peter Pan Syndrome tho, lol.) The David Bowie exhibit was really good! I went to it in Tokyo. I was really impressed with the program he had for coming up with song lyrics. So sad he passed away tho. D:

    [Band Battle] MEJIBRAY vs. DIAURA

I would definitely vote for DIAURA. I don't really listen to either of these two artists, but I can honestly say that what I've heard from DIAURA is more original and better-sounding than anything I've heard from MEJIBRAY. I see MEJIBRAY in the lane of the metalcore movement in VK sans a good vocalist. The guy from DIAURA has a nice voice, whereas the guy from MEJIBRAY either can't really sing or is desperately in need of singing lessons. So if I had to listen to either one of them for a whole day, then definitely DIAURA. To be quite honest, I don't get the hype around MEJIBRAY at all.
