I haven’t listened to the original mix of Uroboros in years, and I’m doing that right now. I can say that what Tue Madsen seemed to concentrate on was pushing Kyo more to the front, but he also removed a lot of the low end of everything else. He kind of nerfed Toshiya’s bass tone, and the hard planning of Kaoru’s and Die’s guitars seems to be less prominent. In the end he somehow managed to make a cleaner mix that sounds messier. Props for bringing out that extra percussion in Ware, Yami Tote though? But fuck that snare sound in the original mix of Red Soil. Sounds like Shinya is smacking tin foil.

Reading all your posts about the original UROBOROS, I really, really need to throw that thing on again. I haven't listened to it since the remaster. One thing about Tue Madsen's mixing that hasn't been mentioned is that he seems to love throwing reverb over absolutely everything. That may contribute to the 'muddy' mix people are talking about. UROBOROS Remastered, DSS, and THE UNRAVELING all suffer from this. It does add to the depth of the music but it all just ends up sounding very similar as a result (at least, in my opinion).

People don't get that the bible is, mostly, as exotic for japanese people as japanese culture and mythology is for us. It is attractive because it is deep and has a long story with large implications that scape most of them. Much like it happens with us and samurai values, yokai, shinto, etc.

    The general Metal discussion thread

Just attended the 10th incarnation of Inner Awakening Festival here in Budapest, 100% underground black metal mayhem over two nights as expected. Some thoughts on the participating bands: Day 1 Goatcraft (Slovakia) - Started off things nicely, nothing remarkable but solid black metal with a nice atmosphere. Lepra (Hungary) - Total crushing darkness as they always do. One of the best and most recognizable Hungarian BM bands currently imo. Kaosophia (Ukraine) - These guys were the highlights for me on the first night. Highly atmospheric, and catchy yet technical stuff. Impressive! Inferno (Czech Republic) - I wasn't feeling it. The weak sound (after what seemed to be the longest soundcheck of all time) ruined it most of all. I left halfway through Inferno's set cuz I was really tired and sleepy, so I couldn't see Mortuus (Sweden) but heard they were good. Day 2 Niedergang (Hungary) - Great start. Excellent guitarplay with equal amounts of moody and thrashy, a bit of a mid-90s throwback vibe. Dunkelheit (Hungary) - Holy moly, this was the loudest gig at the whole fest probably, lol. Stylistically they were similar to Niedergang, so pretty solid. До Скону / Do Skonu (Ukraine) - These guys had more of a death metal sound. Would've been a nice refreshment if they weren't so utterly boring. Meh. Head of The Demon (Sweden) - YES. YESSS. YEEESSS!!! I came just for this band and they killed us all. They were very different from the rest of the lineup, dare I say not even 'pure' black metal (but certainly with BM elements). It's like someone traveled back in time to give a group of occult magicians a Black Sabbath and a Neurosis record to write ritualistic demon-conjuring music. Had a really trippy, airy and esoteric doom vibe. Great stage presence too, not something I'd say for most of the other bands, heh. After HOTD there was still Hell Militia (France) left but I had to go before they took the stage cuz I had early-shift work today, mehhh. All in all, a really cool time. Only negative thing was the unpredictable lengths of the soundchecks (two years ago they managed to solve it really punctually, so I thought everything would go according to schedule now too), but it was tolerable still. Can't wait for them to announce next year's lineup!

LSN is Ruka's solo project. The thing is that Ruka plays mostly drums. The other members including the vocalist, are support members. He had 3 vocalists come and go from LSN by now. They project won't suffer from it because people don't come from the vo, they come for Ruka. Having a vo. they are familiar with is icing on the cake. In fact Ruka is having the most intense fanclub activities compared to his Nightmare bandmates, who actually sing on their new projects (except for the bassist, ni-ya). This is not a regular band. This is a solo project around the most prolific Nightmare composer doing his own thing with the musicians he sees fit for what he wants to sound like.

lol I've only ever heard him live (literally heard him for the first time tonight) and he seemed okay! I think a lot of VK vocalists actually sound much better live. Maybe you'll like him more in future, more polished releases of their songs! If not, hopefully you can get past his vocals and enjoy the music for what is >< no clue what you're talking about (nor do I really care lolol) but thanks for the info! I'll go do some research b(^▽^)d

OMG! Looks like the LSN is really changing their lineup for their first album and some of the support members decided to keep the ball rolling. This is great news all around. Did Guts and Death ever actually take off? They had tha phone app gimmick to sell their music but did they actually held regular lives all this time? I thought they faded away as LSN activistes ended up being pretty intense actually.

I think the track that suffered the most with the remaster was "Stuck Man". I'm suspicious to say that because I actually like the original mix, but the messy sound and the St. Anger snare actually work pretty well on that one and it helps achieving that weird Mr. Bungle/Fantômas-ish sound.

As I said before, I don't really have ears for music, but you can't tell me that some of you consider the mode of performances to be on the same level as the NoK live disc. Even I can hear the differences, the NoK live songs are beyond bad. I've only listened to mode of Wtd., but that one was nice. Not super-super spectacular, but it had its moments (like dead tree and kodou). Imma watch those shows tomorrow and maybe drop my mp3 rips if anyone cares about those. By the way, is it true that VANITAS is about Daisuke? Allegedly, Kyo used similar lyrics to a Kagerou song or something like that...? From what I found, the band received the message of his passing during the break before their encoure on 2010/07/15, and the next song was -mushi-, but Kyo wasn't able to sing because he cried so much... hm

I sometimes wish the rest of the band would get a little improvisational. Kyo is doing whatever the fuck he wants while the other guys are practically jukeboxes. Die seems to the only one that would add extra color here and there. Sometimes Toshiya would throw in a different bass run, but for the most part they played the songs straight. Can these guys jam once in a while?

Man, this makes me really angry. I always thought those "modes of" tour didn't have any purpose other than take money from the rabid fans and make Kyo shreds his throat even more. I know, he's old, the amount of abuse he put his voice through in the past is just immense and it's hard to sound good when you run like a maniac, but honestly, watching live footage from Kyo is just depressing nowadays and IIRC the last time I watched a full DVD by them was the DSS at. I know he never was a consistent live performance but until early 2015 or so, he still tried (and even after it, every once in a while he would nail a something really difficult like "Tousei" from the 2nd day at Budokan). I've been following him since 2011, and while it was cool to witness his vocal habilities at their very best (which peaked in 2013 IMO, The Unraveling has sick vocals and he could actually replicate it live almost perfectly - the Tabula Rasa tour was his best, even that DVD that comes with Sustain the Untruth, which was of a performance Kyo did while going through fever and amigdalitis had some very good stuff). You can actually pinpoint the time where he (and the whole band as well) started bringing back the visual elements to live performances and started exploring other stuff besides music - which was all after the 2012 break they took before releasing Rinkaku. In addition to the poetry books, the photography stuff, the goods designs, he really started going. It was kinda cool at first, but nowadays I just get the impression he doesn't even care about the musical aspect of their live shows, as long as he prances around with corpse-paint wearing monk hoods or doing SM shit while dressed like a naughty nun he seems to be satisfied. And most of all, there's a quote from Kyo himself that goes like "if you want perfection, go listen to the studio albums". That's what I do nowadays, but even then, the studio stuff isn't that good anymore and if you ask me, he sounds like absolute crap on Adoratio. His high register is almost gone, he lost the support to hit the high notes and he mostly sound like he's gagging. There's a reason people who absolutely shredded their voices don't try their old stuff anymore (think Nina Hagen, Phil Anselmo, etc.). Kyo just so self-absorbed with this "i'm expressing myself" thing that just insists on doing stuff he can't do anymore instead of revamping his vocal style. He still has done some of the most batshit insane vocal performances I ever heard in my life though and I thank him for that. I just don't have any hope when it comes to his future

Excuse the cringey name; I used to draw a lot when I was a kid, especially in my preteen years when I doodled my "DoodleZ" daily, whether it was on my notebook paper or on my homework. After high school though, my passion started to die down as I lost confidence in myself, even when I took art class in college and got to experience new things such as painting and gridding. Now, I've had the itch to draw again; it's an ongoing progress, but I'm really eager to draw again, and I want to start that off with vk portraits x) I remember having a lot of fun with those in art class. But I would like to do something bigger and better someday, like maybe do more than just a sketch...by painting it too~ But enough of my yammering, I'm here to post some doodles that I've done before, or have done recently. Kyouki (Grieva) (2014) I would like to finish this one Sui/Misery/Yushi (Megaromania/Lin) (2014) *Outlined with sharpie, so it looks shitty

    Laputa

So I received the Aki Revolve album this week, and I have to say I am very pleased and surprised by how good this album is, my favorite song was AFTERWORD, I really love the synths in it with a very catchy rhythm, I've seen some people complaining about Aki's synth usage, but in my case I love it, and I agree this is the nearest to Laputa sound, especially in the last albums like New temptation, they were moving into that direction and I think it fits very well with Aki's voice, after that my second favorite was 螺旋メリーゴーランド, this song has some guitar lines that reminds me of Laputa older works too, like silent on looker and songs like that, very melodic and pleasant to listen to. Then I loved CLIMAX STARLIGHT, BACK IN THE DAY had very strong beautiful synths and a fast paced chorus that I enjoyed very much, and the lead song REVOLVE is also very good, synths and great guitar solos, this combination is total WIN. I think I'm going to buy some of the other albums, and I saw he released some new EPs too, but I don't see them listed in the Zoisite shop page, maybe it will be featured later ^^ it's very refreshing to listen to Aki's voice again, I really missed some new material with his beautiful voice. I think their looks were ok, not the main reason of why someone would follow a band, the music needs to be good, and if they look good, for me that's just a plus, in the case of Aki, I think he looks pretty similar to what he looked back then, maybe less thin, but that's just age, he still looks cool and mystic, for me he looks a bit like Yukiya Fujita which is another singer I admire a lot and well, considering Aki has almost 50 it's amazing how good he looks in my opinion, and the voice is still as I remember it back in Laputa. When you draw Aki, please definitely share it I would love to see it.
