BORN new maxi single "Son Of A Bitch" release
Licio123 and 2 others reacted to Tetora for a post in a topic
Cool, last mini album rocked so I am looking forward to this. Btw, none of these titles are more edgy, foreign, or just plain stupid than releases by X Japan, Buck Tick, or Hide, for example. It was always a part of heavy rock music, and IMO is cooler than song titles with 20 obscure kanji, or some 'poetic' sentence about a flower. A title is just a way to get attention, and it is working for BORN and Sadie, despite them being the bands that it is cool to hate. -

LOL, Really? This isn't really that weird of a title... doesn't seem out of place for BORN, very different from Sadie's current situation (Which is TOTALLY ridiculous lol..) Anyway, I still enjoyed The Stalin and this is me saying it out loud! Looking forward to this! -

2 pointsSome good Japanese stoner: Church of Misery, Eternal Elysium, Boris, Redwood Blues, Sonic Flower, Chūgakusei Kanoke, Greenmachine, King Goblin Some good Japanese sludge: Corrupted, dot(.), Boris, Garadama, Wheel of Doom, Zenocide, Birushanah, Congenital Hell, Godgrind, Nerveless, Sithter, Solar Anus, Church of Misery, Boris, Sonic Flower, Corrupter, Solar Anus and Congential Hell all have must-haves in their discograhy. Also, sludge can be as fast as it can be slow. A lot of bands owes more to the old hardcore of Black Flag, while many others owes more to the bluesy doom og Black Sabbath, but in general sludge is a mixture of hardcore punk and traditional doom metal. But you can also mix hardcore and traditional doom without being sludge, so there is more to it than that. But in general, it's a fine way to recognize sludge. A filthy mix of hardcore and doom metal. Yummy! Saint Vitus (one of the original doom metal bands) mixed Black Flag with their brand of traditional doom on Hallow's Victim without making a sludge album. But you get the point.

Kamijo - Yamiyo no Lion
acbpn reacted to Ada Suilen for a post in a topic
This is my first review here on MH, and this single is worth of a review -Yamiyo no Lion: the a-side of the single confirms again what Kamijo can really do, a reprise of his natural style and genre that characterized him since Lareine. Rhytmic song with gothic epic chorus, which makes it a very good tune --->9/10 -Bastille: the best song of the single imo!! Revolutionary, it is made on a style atypical for Kamijo and approaches him to industrial music -in fact in some ways it reminds me of Schwein's music- --->10/10 -Unmei: this track is the self-cover of the third part of God Palace -Method of Inheritance-, with a music closer to Versailles' Remember Forever. It is a very enjoyable thing he made for his fans and i'd like that he could make more self-covers in the future. --->9/10 Final Vote ---> 9/10 It is a very good single, like Moulin Rouge has been: but it shows that Kamijo can do everything (yes also heavy music) without any problems. And i want to do a wish: he should try an industrial concept, i think that he will be successful -

I meant that these titles are so American-ish -
1 pointNo problem. I've heard alot people mistaking the snare hammerings in Different Sense and Decayed Crow as blast beats, also. And it astounds me everytime I see the live footage, to see that it took him like 3 years to manage keeping up with his feet on these sections. Not to mention he totally skips the double bass sections in red soil... I mean in studio he can apparently do a lot of things, but the only way I can explain his fucking up live is that he doesn't appear to ever practice. Hence... good thing he stays away from blast beats.

1 pointArtist: ALSDEAD Album: STARLESS Score: Is this a fluke or does ALSDEAD finally have some spark? Despite my absence on most visual kei threads on the forums concerning new bands, I do follow some bands and check out new releases from time to time. The only time I find myself compelled to make a review is when: something exceeds my expectations of a band is incredibly bad and deserves no hype when the hype is mellow, the release deserves a review and doesn't have one ALSDEAD is a band that's by and far ignored on Monochrome Heaven - after having an explosive opening with their first two singles their flop of a self-titled relegated them to the trash bin for many, and their subpar output since 2009 hasn't helped them any. They've found a cult following in people that crave the sound they produce, but for those outside that small group this band has offered very little worth listening to. Even though Separator (barely) made our best-of list last year, anyone that follows my reviews knows I roasted that album over an open spit for being so dull it left me with very little to say about it. I had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that the band that crafted Violent of Reason and F-99 could release so many boring songs, so I find myself downloading a release from them now and again to see if they've become interesting once more. I thought I would never say this, but ALSDEAD have released something I find genuinely interesting. For a couple of plays at least. I can't pinpoint exactly why I like STARLESS so much. Both tracks are solid and I can always appreciate the balance between an aggressive track and a more laid-back rock track. Both songs are exactly as long as they need to be, feature tasteful use of studio pyrotechnics, and clean production. Picture is also outside of ALSDEAD's comfort zone, and they nail it well. I'm sure they've done tracks like this before, but as a person that doesn't follow ALSDEAD like that this was a welcome surprise. If I wanted to nitpick, I could mention that STARLESS' solo is a little on the simple side, but that's a small blip. This is the first release I've heard by ALSDEAD with Nikky from GALEYD, so I attribute a lot of the positive things I said here to him. I don't know if Maki is still the main composer after all, but bands that tend to only have one composer get stale quick, which was my problem with this band for the longest. If Meku's stranglehold over most of GALEYD's output caused other members of the band to have to put their creativity on pause and this is the first time that Nikky's been able to express himself, GALEYD's disbandment might be the single greatest thing that's ever happened to this band. Well, aside from their ex-drummer adopting a name better than Peanuts Benjamin and the band playing at that lolicon in the middle of New Mexico. For once, I have nothing negative to say. The single does it job well, which is to raise hype for an upcoming album. If the material on the album is as consistent as the small teaser we have now, I might have something nice to say about the album at the end of the year.

1 pointSure, tho I can tell you Sludge can be over a ton of different styles of metal (lots of bands include sludge breaks ect.) and since downtempo isn't considered a genre here, I can't tell you if they are the same thing... possibly not entirely since it's a scene that's evolving in a totally different region. To use a description from a metal website But some of the most popular sludge bands are EYEHATEGOD, Down/Superjoint Ritual, and one of my fav (unfortunately defunct) bands Acid Bath. Superjoint is more on the hardcore side. Acid Bath has a good mix of tempo. Eyehategod and Down are really slow but not that heavy (imo). So there is a bit of a vacancy in the slow (downtempo) and brutal side of sludge in my library, but maybe this list can help you if you're looking for more than my limited knowledge.

What about mosh pits?
doombox reacted to relentless for a post in a topic
I guess it depends on the show and the crowd. On one hand you have hardcore shows where the focus is the pit, and on the other you have VK / Dir en grey shows where the crowd reacts in HORROR at the sign of a mosh pit. At VK and mainly the Dir en grey shows I have witnessed, people are there to get as close to the band as they can, want as little movement as they can, and want to focus on what the members are doing on stage. I have seen a few mosh pits at Dir en grey shows in years past; but they're either extremely small, or have people that don't know how to mosh in the first place (one guy was throwing punches at people and hit several in the face). At hardcore shows, there is more often than not a big crowd up front climbing over each other and screaming while a huge wall of death goes on behind them. They're two very different atmospheres that I feel have to be gauged accordingly. I won't mosh at a hardcore show for the reason that there's a bit too much chaos for my liking. There's a venue nearby that is in a basement, and features a balcony that hangs over the floor. Well, during high energy shows, not only will people crowd surf; but people will launch themselves from the balcony onto the crowd below. It's a total joy to watch; but it can be rough being apart of it when you don't know what to expect. I'm fine with moshing, and will take part in it; but it has to be the right show for it, has to have the right crowd for it, and you have to be in the right mood for it. Sometimes I want to hang by the bar and enjoy a band's set, other times I want to dive head first into the assault and see what happens. -
1 pointPeople enjoy music in different ways, and in an ideal world it shouldn't be a problem. But every single time I've been to a show where it happens it gets a problem because the moshers, karate dancers and the rest of the mongers does it right where people want to stand and enjoy the show. They don't go to the sides or back where there's empty, no, every single time they do it right in front of the stage so that the people who are there to see the band has to go to the sides or back. They don't give a single fuck about the rest of the audience. E X E C U T E !
-
1 pointI totally hate mosh pits, crowds of people pushing each others around to get to the front row, etc. Crowd surfing is the biggest nightmare for me (but it doesn't happen on vk lives). I go to a concert to listen to the music and watch the performance, not to be thrown around like a rag. It scares me and I can't focus on the live at all, because I only think how to survive in that crowd and what hurts me at the moment, or whose elbow is stabbing me. I'm very short, so I can be either in the first row, or completely in the back. It sucks I can't just sit down somewhere in the back and watch everything, though. All venues should have some seats on a higher platform in the back, so people could just watch the live from there without getting interrupted or tired (standing for too long is a painful problem for me, because of the health problems).
-
1 pointMosh pits are a big no for me. I'm sure they can be a lot of fun for people who are into that, but I'm just not too keen on having a bunch of people jumping around me, being extremely aggressive, and touching me every which way. Not to mention all the sweat or what have you, being involved too If I were to ever get in a mosh pit, it surely wouldn't end well. Panic attacks and tears would certainly be coming from my end, lol.
-
1 pointI love mosh pits. But I'm not big enough or strong enough to hang with most of the guys here. Our pits can be very violent (it's common to see 2-3 people leave with bloody faces through out the night) so I hang right at the outside to help pick people up with they fall or push people back in when they spin out of control. Japanese bands coming here don't usually have mosh pits. Only maybe Crossfaith (because their music is more western influenced) have had a nice sized pit so far for me. Dir en grey here is all female crowd usually who don't pit much, or it's very mild. But I hear in other cities they have crazy pits so maybe it's just my town is not too into them like other places. But most of my Japanese concert experience has been at anime conventions and no one ever pits at those things.
-
1 pointVidoll hands down.
-
1 pointPlease do yourself a favor and watch one of VK's finest videos: (But seriously, if you don't like this song, chances are you won't like most of Vidoll stuff. Their earlier music, at least).

Well now you know I came to nitpick and criticize, which are the two things I do best. 2. You have artists with letters I have never seen before. How do you even pronounce Týr? Tear? It must be because I'm being moved to tears right now. 3. dieS is in Unicode. I am a Unicode hater. Everyone needs to use regular letters. Live at home until you're 30 with Mom and Dad because you can't afford to buy a house? Exam hell? Finally get your job as a salaryman and work overtime routinely because it's expected of you to do so, to the point where there's a term associated with "death by overwork"? All this happening in a country with one of the highest suicide rates and one of the highest depression rates? I can't imagine why no one my age in Japan is obsessed with sex. They're all too busy trying to survive and do what's expected of them.
