now it's official,i'm absolutely in love with this mini.
loved the characteristic 90's guitar tone, and the  riffs are familiar but yet pretty original.the hypnotic and effective bass lines,
the lonely/melancholic atmosphere...even Karma's whiny vocals fits perfectly with the tight and smooth production
the piano as first and last track gave it an elegant touch just like the album artwork,i enjoyed that.
seriously,i didn't expect it to be so accessible and catchy.

I don't mind Jin but I get the impression that he's the type of person who has a strong vision that he tries hard to achieve, but he just doesn't know what to do in order to achieve it, and maybe he tries to do all the important things on his own.  I thought Nega was decent but I never liked them enough when they were still around.  I really liked The Black Swan though, maybe more than most people, but I mostly liked them for the instruments and songwriting in that regard.  For this band I am hoping that Jin will get it right this time and will let the other band members take charge of direction too.

I'll check it out because it's Jin and I admire how committed he is to vk, even if I haven't clicked with anything he's been a part of since early Nega and a couple of rando songs from tbs.

AvelCain was a band with good moments in a largely forgettable discography, and those moments were when they managed to sound somewhat like a band and still retain that spirit. The problem wasn't that they were raw or something ( although the general consensus on MH is still that if a vocalist wouldn't be up to scratch competing in American Idol, he's probably shit and certainly not something one could be playing to their friends and relatives, ) but that they could barely even decide on a sound between all the chinese restaurant ost gimmicks, nu metal riffs and vaguely old school ballads and freak outs; and all of this exploration was being done with minimal musicianship while still insisting on having a clean studio sound ( which sounded awful to the point of almost being reminiscent of western vk production ) and making defined songs instead of bursts of noise which they probably should've been doing instead. For every Psycho and ID they had an ocean of mediocrity that Karma's lifestyle performance art took a level above. Idk what's the totality of their composition credits but I wouldn't be surprised if everything they made themselves was shit.

This project sounds like he's finally going for something, a sound with a concise aesthetic and the influences he's working with here definitely mean that this is in the right side of history even if it isn't the best thing going

    so poseurs leave the hall.

Pretty telling how people dislike it because it involves Karma, but since it's not br00tal and AvelCain-ish enough it's regarded the worst of all (even tough AvelCain was even shittier, since additional to sucky vocals no one could write or play instruments).

The same people however praise nostalgic indie shit like La'veil Mizeria to the heavens, despite Kikyo being just as incompetent in holding his notes. If this band had some no1curr vocalist people would be creaming themselves, yelling "true saviors of Visual kei!".

Same here. These ten years listening to VK made me forgot that I crushed on it because first I crushed on J-music, and anime openings and OSTs in general are responsibles for. Since I was very little I felt very overwhelmed when my favorite openings came to play and also very curious about how Japanese sounded and was written; I went head over heels to it, despite my family and friends looking down on it.

It's still a mystery to me why, if almost every 90s kid grew up watching anime in a daily basis, J-music fandom was and still is considered a freak thing...

People on this board and elsewhere definitely like worse shit so I'd call them underrated. Totally unique sound, even when they were doing "fillers." Tzk's and MiA's interplay is something that happened once and will never happen again. Tzk's lyrics too are so particular to him even in translation

saiko reacted to Himeaimichu in The Vkei "Harpsichord" sounds Trend
Harpsichords have been somewhat of a thing in Visual Kei since the origin of TanbiKei (Vkei bands that have European themes like Malice Mizer or Versailles).
Malice Mizer was pretty well known for using harpsichords and other European instruments in order to fit with their Baroque theme (GackT era) or Victorian theme (Klaha era).

I wouldn't say it's a trend but more of a recurring theme that pops up every so often, since lots of bands today are still heavilly inspired by Malice Mizer, Versailles, Lareine, Moi dix Mois, etc.
My favourite example would be it's use in Vasalla's Yurikago.

However, the band most notable for Harpsichords is Moi dix Mois. Almost every song they make uses an organ, orchestra, or harpsichord.

You're not wrong. I would peg the growing interest in anime and Japanese culture to the late 90's and early 2000's. I was too young to notice at the time, but thinking back on it, it was my dad who introduced me to Dragonball Z. He heard about it from his coworkers, all about 30 or 40, so clearly its influence had infiltrated my country by the time I was 5 or 6. Visual kei jumped on the bandwagon a few years after that, because the first time I ever heard about it was in 1999, but it was defo underground at the time and in my entire life I only talked about visual kei in person to seven or eight people. Interest in visual kei spiked around 2003-2004 and reached critical mass around 2007-2009. These days, it's almost impossible to find new fans in the flesh.

I won't even try to analyze the reasons why interest died off since I'm not certified in it, but what I can say is that at some point interest in Japanese music fell off completely. I have friends who will admit to watching anime, playing JRPGs, going to anime conventions and cosplaying, but not one of them talks about listening to the music.  If I were pressed to give a reason for this, I would point to K-Pop. I know many a fan who jumped ship to K-Pop once the craze died down, and to be honest it feels more socially acceptable to like K-Pop than visual kei these days because one is more commercialized than the other. To J- and K-music outsiders, I can see how the distinction between "J-Rock" and "K-Pop" is irrelevant when they don't understand the words anyway, so I'd say that for many people K-Pop fills that musical niche for their interest in ~exotic Asian musics~ where J-Music should be.

A lot of my fondness for this era is because this was the music I listened to in my formative years and I will always have a soft spot for it, but I'd be lying if I said 2008 wasn't the best time ever to be a visual kei fan. It was.

Actually I don't hate any band or member in particular, I just ignore it, as somebody else said above.

What I actually hate is the much idolized vk industry got in the last 10 years. Sometimes I can't believe my eyes when I got to see horrible things like "Babykingdom" or "the Raid", and people liking them "because they are cute"... Well, at least they make some people have what seems a good time of enjoyment...

Oh yeah, I also hate that part of the West DEG fandom that born with Uroboros... They totally drive me crazy.

Pd: Mejibray had a bunch of awful fillers but wonder singles until Decadance.

I'm 100% okay with them taking their time making good music instead of pumping out mediocre releases every 3 months tbh.
They're gonna be touring in January and March so I'm sure they're focusing on that at the moment.
    But regardless I'm super pumped.
