A best album for a five year old band?

someone is trying to get out of a contract

They put out a best album a few years ago when they signed with Timely so this is actually their second best album.

According to their website, it'll include all the songs since An joined the band plus one new song.

Rather than get out a contract, it sounds like they want to have more instores since they always have a large attendance for their instores

@Duwang do you remember the setlist they played at O-West at all? I’m hoping some video footage surfaces, im assuming the band doesn’t/didn’t have the funding to record it for a DVD release?

    Yup I have the setlist.

    6. …物狂ひ…なりて
    7. 愛憎につき…

    15. Ambitiosus principles
    16. vanitas

And the live ended with a short MC from Sho wishing Ryuya and Taishi the best in their future then the announcement video that's now on Youtube.

I didn't see any video cameras, but there was someone up front taking photos throughout the live. Maybe the band will post some of them in the future?

I was up front so idk if anyone in the crowd took videos. Probably not, though.

Also, completely unrelated. I don't know if any of you noticed but they deleted the PVs for アハレワタ, 初潮, and THE SILENT SONG off their Youtube channel.

I like those songs, but imo I think it's for the best. After all DIMLIM's a completely different band now.

What it wasn't mentioned,  it's if you have spent more than 10,000 yen in goods,  a CD called "CDAR[+1]ELECTRONICA[E]" was offered.

It's just the SE they played at the beginning of the live. Slow electronic track 6:33 long with a woman speaking English for the first minute.

so how was the attendance of the o-west live? any clues?

It wasn't completely sold out, but there were a lot of people, I'd say 300-350 people plus around 50 kankeisha on the second floor.

is this like demo versions of vanitas and 愛憎につき...?

Vanitas -white- and 愛憎につき...-black are Sho only versions of the songs. They're both quite a bit different than the originals.

JET may put you waaaaay out in the boonies so you can’t do lives since JET costs more money for Boards of Education to contract and your experience is still up to how well you get on with your school, but yeah bc it is run thru the government you will be a proper full time worker with subsidized health insurance/pension benefits and the pay is better.

I know several former JETS who were placed in the boonies (ie Shimane, Yamaguchi, Aomori, Akita, etc) and they were still able to go to lives.

I didn't do JET but I used to live in Gunma and still went to 3-6 lives a month.

It really depends on how much time/money you're willing to spend on your hobby.

  6. I've been living in Japan for almost 5 years now and of all the time I've been here I was only stopped by the police once.

When I was 25 I was walking home from the station [in a rural area] after getting back on the last train when I was stopped by two police officers. Apparently they thought I was a Japanese teenager walking home alone at night and informed me that I was out after curfew and need to return home immediately. I insisted I was very much an adult and they asked to see my ID which they then realized I was indeed an adult and also a foreigner (I have long dark brown hair, brown eyes and I'm small/thin so I blend in pretty well for a white person). They apologized then insisted on walking me home because it's ~dangerous~ but we were literally right in front of my apartment.

Maybe they will stay with one guitarist and just find a new bassist. Would be more simple to manage

DIMLIM's music is written for 2 guitars so they definitely need to find a replacement for Ryuya or find a support guitarist for their lives.

If DIMLIM was going to disband they most likely would've announced it with this announcement.

As long as Sho and Retsu are good friends I doubt the band will break up.

but essentially bands are a business, too, and that's the side of the coin that Retsu neglects quite a bit and unless he eases off the reins, I don't think they will be able to grow. Releases and live shows few and far between...pretty much radio silence for the most part.

Idk where ya'll got the idea that Retsu is some sort of control freak because he really isn't. Just because he had a spat with Issei and became the main composer after he left the band doesn't mean he's doing literally everything himself and not letting the others get in his way.

Them not playing often and not having releases often has nothing to do with Retsu taking the lead, rather none of them know how to manage a band and they don't have money.

  9. I'm not at all surprised about Ryuya leaving, but Taishi is a bit of a shock for me. I've known he's had health issues for a while but I didn't think it was getting to such a point that he'd be quitting music. He's always feeling his oats on stage.

Ryuya's been dropping some pretty strong hints for a while, though. For several months now he's had little no to motivation at lives, and while the others don't really update SNS that much, he completely stopped for a while other than retweeting announcements. In addition, he looked 100% done at their live on Monday. My friends who are fans of his left that live feeling really down and disappointed.

I feel bad saying this because he's a nice dude but Ryuya's a very mediocre guitarist and it sounds like he's admitted defeat. You can get better bro, you're still young.

Oh and for another vk man who is old af but has never looked his age is Arimura Ryuutaro. Even in pics where he has very little makeup. It always blew me away how young looking he was. I've always found him to be really beautiful.

I saw Plastic Tree in April and he has aged quite a bit since I saw them in 2013. He definitely looks like he's in his 40s irl, but he still looks good, just not young.

Some people just age better than others and everyone finds different things attractive.

imo Atsushi Sakurai still looks good at 53.

I prefer Dimlim, but they will never be as popular as Kizu. Kizu already pull crowds that Dimlim can only dream of. I think it might have something to do with Kizu targeting female audience specifically, whereas Dimlim's music are more suited for males.

Personally, I believe that Dimlim would have achieven more in Japan had they dropped of the visual kei look.

You are correct in that Kizu targets females as they do a lot of instores and interact with fans, like most vk bands.

I don't think DIMLIM particularly targets males, though. Rather they just don't really do instores or interact with fans that much cause they're all awkward af. Not doing instores/eigyou is a no-go for a lot of bangya.

In addition, they don't play often (1-3 times a month), they manage themselves, they don't really have money or a lot of connections, Sho doesn't use SNS and the others are bad at it (another turn off for bangya as well as overseas fans), and they're not consistent with releases. The quality of their releases post-Issei have been top notch, but in the past year they've only put out a 10 song/2 SE album and a two song single with a 10 month gap between them.

Also I don't think they would achieve more if they dropped VK (tbh they're barely vk as it is). There's no money in metal in Japan unless you make it big and very few bands do.

I like both bands a lot, but I stan DIMLIM (no surprise there)
They're kinda clueless and not very consistent about certain things, but they're doing their best with their limited resources and I really respect/appreciate that, and their improvement post-Issei is honestly incredible.

I love Kizu's music and they put on great shows. I had a lot of good times seeing them in 2017, but there were so many crazy/desperate/violent people at their liquidroom oneman last year. My friends and I were being kicked by the people in front of us for 90% of the time🙄 I haven't gone since because I don't want to deal with that crap anymore. It's a real shame they have such terrible fans cause the guys really are good at what they do.

As for DIMLIM's lives, they are a lot more chill.

  12. It might be difficult to trade cheki if you're seeking cheki of a bandman in a different band from what you have. Of course most people like more than one band, but they might not necessarily like the bands whose cheki you have, so it might be nearly impossible to trade those 3 cheki off, especially since they're all bandmen who aren't particularly popular.

It'd probably be easier to just buy cheki of who you want from Puresound/Closet Child, or you can look in sales groups on Facebook.

Closet child is selling several sets of 10 Subaru cheki (a 5000 yen value) for 1460 yen

Not trying to be rude or anything, just giving you some advice so you can have success with obtaining the cheki you want.

Like if you are basically stalking the band like demachi or irimachi, then you're on another level that's not stanning.

Demachi is NOT straight up stalking if the band is okay with it. Some bands actually have/had a well established tradition of doing demachi after lives, although it's not that common anymore.

LuLu always does it. 3/4 of them chill by the venue for an hour or so talking to fans. Since they haven't done instores in years you can ask them to sign shit for you and if they're in a good mood they will even let you take selfies with them.

Gallo also did it for 5-6 years, but I don't think they do it anymore (I stopped following them after Hikaru left). I have a lot of good demachi memories with them.

Basically, if other fans are doing it, it's probably ok, but if everyone fucks off right after the live it's most likely not a good idea.

Irimachi, however, can be seen as an annoyance by many bands because they're trying to get their shit into the venue and get ready for the live so I don't recommend it.

I also ran into my faves at a conbini after a live and I felt awful, even though it was an accident 😕

This happens to me quite often. I don't think they care as long as you don't bother them.
