    The Modern-Day Angura Scene

It's no real secret that the angura scene isn't really as alive anymore as it once used to be. I know most of these artists were never really among the most popular ones in VK in the first place, but these days it feels like the majority of the bands/artists still active on the scene are ones that are almost as old as the aesthetics they're trying to imitate. It feels like there either don't seem to be that many new bands popping up that fit into that classic '00s angura mold (as loosely defined as that was), or they're simply so underground they don't really become known overseas. The main idea behind this thread is for it to serve both as a sort of ''where are they now?'' for the classic angura artists, as well as a place to share some of the newer bands that have appeared on the scene in the last decade or so. Contributions, corrections, etc. always appreciated!

    [CLUB] Your UNDER CODE Fave(s)

From 2003 to 2013, UNDER CODE PRODUCTION played a big part in establishing indie bands, some to the point where they got contracts from major labels. Because of their impact, some of these bands still stick with us to this day, even as members form new bands or retire from music altogether. Personally, my favorite UNDER CODE band was Megaromania. They were actually my gateway to visual kei, and later to UNDER CODE (specifically We Love UCP~), and their melodic metal tunes made me stick around for a short while until they dissolved along with the label itself. Now that I look back on them, I much rather prefer their earlier period before 2010, as they were less metal-oriented and more focused on their softcore sound. I still follow the members to this day, and thankfully only Sui is still around right now ;w; Out of the many bands in the UNDER CODE roster, which ones were your favorites? Feel free to share your favorite releases, lives, memories, etc~

Oh man, I don't know where to start. I think I'll just go alphabetically. xD Dali: Lovedddd these guys, especially their singles and mini albums, tho their full-length wasn't half bad either. Also, as much as I liked them, everything they did after 2009 is boring garbage for me ("Tricolor Crawl", etc). E'm~grief~: Lord, this was such a clusterfuck but I adored every second of it. xDDD Whether they were doing cheesy & kinky sex dungeon electro-goth or straight up ripping off Dimmu Borgir, they had something. hurts: My goth-punk boiz. No frills vk punk rock that might seem plain at times, but it was totally perfect for what they were going for. Shame that they didn't last long. Mar'derayla: MY ULTIMATE FAVES. They had a really cool thing going on with a dark tone but still lots of variety. Out of all the UC bands, I own the most CDs from them I think (a close-to-complete discography). NEGA: This band was a real powerhouse up until their demise. It took a looooong time till I warmed up to them (cuz of Jin's vocals :p) but then I fell hard for them. I fuck with both the old style and the latter era equally. Phantasmagoria: They were my first UC love if I remember correctly. Everything about them was so well thought-out and meticulously designed, with awesome catchy songs. Definitely my favorite of Kisaki's bands. Vior gloire: I am still baffled how such a short-lived band could release something as utterly epic and amazing as the "Gloomy and wakeful night" album. It should become an underground vk classic in a few years imo. Honorable mentions: - 12012: pretty cool stuff, but they tanked hard for me after their first album. Everything afterwards is just bad bad bad. - Himitsu Kessha Codomo A: bleeps and bloops and kanashii #feels in childish angura sauce, what's not to like? - Vidoll: just like 12012, they were interesting in the beginning, then rapidly got onto my 'nope radar'.

    The Modern-Day Angura Scene

Are you familiar with カラビンカ (Kalavinka)? I think they formed somewhere around 2007 or so. They nail that classic angura sound pretty fucking well in my opinion, pretty much everything I've heard by them has been good. Their singer kind of reminds me of the dude from Jully

    The Modern-Day Angura Scene

Where Are They Now? (Angura Style) グルグル映畫館 (Guruguru Eigakan): Inactive. Last official release in 2010. The band officially suspended activities back in 2012. Vocalist Amano Tonbimaru passed away due to unknown causes the following year. I think there have been some tribute / memorial concerts in his honor after that, but it's unlikely they'll ever get together again. 犬神サーカス団 (Inugami Circus-Dan): Active. Ever since their slight name change in 2012 they've been pretty consistenly productive. They've released 4 full-length albums, 1 mini-album and a compilation album in the last 5 years. 駄菓子菓子 (Dagashi-Kashi): Active. (I think?) Their last full-length album came out as far back as 2015, but I think they're still around. Using Google Translate, I found out that they've apparently had to cancel some live performances this year due to one of their members' health problems. ストロベリーソングオーケストラ (Strawberry Song Orchestra): Active. Their last cd came out in 2016, and they seem to have changed their look again since then as well. SEX-ANDROID: Inactive. Indefinite hiatus started July 19th this year. 太平洋ベルト (Taiheiyou Belt): Somehow still active. Despite the fact that it feels like it's been ages since they actually released anything, they're apparently still around and playing lives. メトロノーム (Metronome): Active. Rather unexpectedly released a comeback album in March of this year. Hopefully they'll stick around for a while longer! 新宿ゲバルト(Shinjuku Gewalt): Active? Released at least one official single last year after what felt like ages. Who knows what they're up to lmao FLOPPY: ???. Now that Sharaku's busy with Meto and (presumably) GalapagosS, who knows what'll happen to them. It's been a while since they've had any proper releases, but I think they were still performing at least a couple of years ago? cali≠gari: Active. Released a fine-ass album a couple of months ago, check it out if you somehow haven't gotten around to it yet. Here's a little list for starters. Feel free to add to it.

    Alvino will disband

For me ALvino is a enormous mess, I was happy to see Jun and Koji two guitarists who I really like played together in the same band but the first time who I listened songs of them I found theirs sound too much simple and generic. Maybe they wanted change theirs style of music and do soft pop/rock and I think that's why Kaya didn't join the band because of musical differences when Jun and Koji asked to him to be ALvino vocalist.

I feel you there on Hesonoo ^^. I like the how the chorus effect on Koyomi's guitar is used. It's set so you kinda hear a wavering sound. Normally in Vkei, the chorus effect on guitars are set to where there is no waver. Also the pitch bends Kuro does really give a unique feel. Most Vkei guitarist only bend to get different notes, but Kuro does it to give vibrato. The overall feel of the song makes me nostalgiac. There is a french word for this feeling you get when listening to nostalgiac music. Frisson. Every element of this song, from the guitars, to Mei's amazing vocals, really trigger this effect.

I have a lot of favorite Kuroyuri to Kage songs but my absolute favorite is hesonoo since it's one of the first songs I ever heard by them. It's also a bit different than their other songs since it's slower and I just really like Mei's cleans. I enjoy their heavier stuff but I'm a sucker for slower songs.

correct; fyi only, kaname (gu. in first gossip) is now fronting in sioux; their vo. was in VARYL (disbanded in 2016, roughly same sounding as gossip): and their other two members ended up in LEZARD (idk her),

I voted for D.I.D. a few years back, I guess... As much as I enjoy the instrumentation/musicianship of D.I.D., Akane sometimes makes it rather difficult to enjoy. I kind of prefer Para:noir to D.I.D. Yes, as has been pointed out, Akane abused autotune during the Para:noir days, but it wasn't constant, just occasional. These days, however, it's nothing but chipmunk vocals and HNNNGGG-HRRRNNNG-HNNNNGG-HRRRRNNNNNNG. I'd rather have good vocals with occasional autotune abuse over a potentially good voice constantly wasted on chipmunk squealing and unintelligible grunting noises. I never really had any respect for NOCTURNAL BUTTLUST, before listening to a single song of theirs, I just got the impression that they were total douchebags (but then again, I just described at least half the VK scene). That impression made it hard to take this particular band seriously. I do like their singer's voice when he actually sings in Japanese, but I don't care for his screeches or Engrish vocals. Most of their stuff bores me, though, so I don't even bother anymore. They've always been a joke to me, more so than any other VK band. As much as I'd like to take back my vote and say "neither," I can't. 1) the system won't let me, 2) writing this post has reminded me that I still like the music D.I.D. created, I just have a problem with the vocals (again, I just described half of VK).

    [蜉蝣CLUB] Lyrics Analysis

I think he's sorry for both girls, and the baby. I mean, if I were in that situation, I'd be going "I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY!!!". Knowing though he specifically says "that girl", though, I think he mostly means the girl he cheated on

    [蜉蝣CLUB] Lyrics Analysis

Not that I really remember, tbh. But apart from that, if so, it's a past experience that involves cheating, I guess? I mean, since "tsumi" means crime/sin and he says he "commited a crime" which leads him to tell a lie, isn't it kind of referring to it? Also in the video he's eating an apple and laying next to a mannequin in bed, werent't apples suppossed to the forbidden fruit?? It makes me think something like he slept with somebody else, but he told this girl he didn't and then the girl in question found out so she left him, lmao.

    SuG 10th ANNIVERSARY FANPROJECT

Hi everyone! Next month, I will travel to Japan for the very first time to attend SuG's one-man show at Nippon Budokan. As I'm managing a worldwide community of "SuG Jyuus" on social medias (SuG Worldwide Community, sagudesu, sagudayo…), I decided to start an international fanproject to send love and good wishes to the band from overseas. By doing that, I'm giving the opportunity to everyone who's not coming to the Budokan to send a message to the band: on September 1st, SuG will meet all the overseas fans who will make the trip to see them in Japan, so I'll give them the link of a special page on which I'll post all of your messages! Send your short message addressed to SuG here (up to ~300 characters, in English or Japanese) : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfy0p9A8-gixt55ei7_PbH5il9ueiis-pF_P5go05GbSrIvwQ/viewform Thank you! Please share the project with every fan you know to make it a success!

i'll only get my cds tmr so i haven't heard their new single... I CANNOT WAIT. and 素晴らしきこの世界へ is apparently fuma's favorite song off this single so i'm especially excited to hear that one i can totally understand why the change in their music direction (if you could call it that) wouldn't be palatable to some fans. to be fair that was a huge concern the band had as well. i remember keiya saying how torn he was when they decided to try something knew cos he wasn't sure if the fans can accept it. ultimately i think the main 'payoff' for their new sound comes through most clearly at lives, and it's difficult to judge songs like panic panic and poison chocolate without having seen them live, esp. with all the audience participation elements. i mean, even before panic panic, listening to Paradise Dance on record was NOTHING like experiencing it live. the energy of the entire livehouse moving in sync + how good keiya is at hyping the crowd up is quite mind blowing. the recent music only lifts that to a higher level. i'm not sure what i feel about the 2 recent PVs still, since ordinarily they would def be too cheesy for me (and like, the reason i actually love them is because of my ridiculously intense bias for the band LOL). but i found that if i listen without watching the pv, the sound actually doesn't deviate too much from some of the stuff they had before? it's still the same sound effects, the same catchy choruses, the same signature purple stone hooks etc. and then there's also the lyrics aspect. it's understandable that their recent output is easy to dismiss as 'non-serious' and 'playful' music but actually fuma kinda detests 'paripi' music (basically superficial, thoughtless party/clubbing music) lol. he's said time and again in interviews and talkshows that his job is to try and neutralize the capriciousness of their sound by writing lyrics that gives substantial depth to the songs. that doesn't mean that his lyrics are preachy or inscrutable - it just means there's more to their music than meets the eye so like, there's something for everyone, assuming you can access everything: recorded music, live experience, lyrics, interviews/blogs/tweets, and so on. anyway fuma just seems to be a super intelligent person from the stuff he writes/says haha. he twitcasts A LOT (almost every night) so pls just drop by and say hi even if you dunno what he's saying oh and a slight digression: their new single seems to be selling quite well! i ordered from 3 different shops for fun this time and both like an edison and jishuban have sold out their first press (so they're waiting on stock). i checked cdjapan and it seems to be the same there. little hearts and zeal link have limited stock left.
