Welp, for those of us living in the US, Net Neutrality was taken away.
Greedy Rich People can now make us pay even more out of the ass, but this time to access certain content over others
-
@suji Yeah, I actually found that out way after I made this lol. Let's hope!
-
@lichtlune But apparently, there is a huge majority of congressmen that support Net Neutrality, so we may still keep it. After all, we've narrowly kept it after almost losing it once already. We just need to keep contacting our congressmen and letting them know our thoughts.
-
Has to go through legislature, the president and congress first before that happens. Besides taking away net neutrality technically is unconstitutional.

Does anyone know any examples of "Professional" Musicians getting involved in VisualKei? All I can think of is percussionist Cato Isao and Music Professor/Session drummer Tetsuro, both of which played in bands with the same members, JyuLie and GossiP. As well as the entire lineup of CrowXClass.
And I don't mean involved as in doing one song, but like actually being an integral part of the band
-
I'd guess we are talking about formally EDUCATED musicians right? 'Cause yeah most vk bands would be technically professional (although we can't rule out any and all who may also be working on the side to stay afloat loll!).
Love hearing all that about Matenrou Opera, it shows!
-
@reminiscing2004 Yeah, basically what @Elazmus said. Formally Educated Musicians, sometimes those who often play outside of Vkei, like in the case of Cato Isao, who nowadays is more known for preforming Samba music in Brazil instead of support for JyuLie lol.
Also, @Komorebi, that's very interesting! Thanks!

Well today is my first day of college. Hope this goes well

They should feed an AI song-writing program a bunch of Visual Kei songs of each type, and see if it can come up with the ultimate songs.
-
@Zeus Oh wow, that's interesting. Do tell more!
-
1. creating an AI to build music requires teaching an AI about music and music theory or else you're going to have an AI that smashes random notes together. that means having a solid understanding of major and minor chords, harmonic scales, time signatures, etc. and then being able to program it so that the AI understands it as well.
2. it is easiest to teach AI music thru monophonic melody. most visual kei songs (most songs actually) are polyphonic. that means many melodies at once. simply giving AI an MP3 is not going to work because it's not going to understand how to separate frequencies and instruments. what i worked on accepted MIDI files as input, but as it would turn out...
3. turning Mp3 into MIDI is not easy either! try one for yourself. the resulting MIDI is a discordant mess. this is because the conversion process loses a lot of information, and this is the information we want to teach our AI!
4. need a good training set of data to begin "teaching" the AI about music. you will need hundreds of samples to get started. i used Bach since i had a training set already available to me. this would have to be replaced with visual kei melodies to achieve the desired effect.
there are a few more but that's the issues i had.

Duolingo now has Vietnamese, so I decided to start learning it. I have pretty much all the time in the world on my hands, so hopefully I'll learn quick
-
I was learning Japanese a while back but I haven't been on it in ages and that owl is probably pissed at me. Anyways, good luck to you, @Peace Heavy mk II! What app are you using now?
-
HelloChinese. It has a lot of advantages that Duo currently does not, namely:
-in depth grammar explanations that reflect the context of the sentence (sometimes Duo's tooltip hints don't actually apply to the sentence at hand, so you're left to guess and get it wrong so you "learn from your mistakes." Normally, that's fine, but the app gives you a health bar that they then charge you to refill. tl;dr : you can only make so many mistakes before they try to charge you to try again)
-character lessons
-audio doesn't sound like Siri being put through a cheese grater
-practice games (spelling, word recognition, listening comprehension, etc)
-listening portions are people they found outside and asked them to record a sentence. There's something that never gets old about seeing some girl in the park standing there and saying "....celery..." with a confused look on her face, all for my betterment.
-They introduce content in chunks. I'm finding Duo throws a ton of unexplained grammar and vocabulary at you and it's up to you to figure out how to piece it together. For earlier levels, that's fine. But I'm into the late 30's - early 40's group of lessons and it's getting too difficult to parse through everything and remember it.

Visual Kei Musicians: *does absolutely nothing*
Some dude who only chugs Metallica riffs in his bedroom on a line 6 spider amp: "unlike you f*gs with your fancy lipstick, I play REAL music, and I come from when you had to be able to play Erruption at 50000 bpm in order to make it! I only listen to musicians with absolutely no fashion sense hygiene. If you so much as brush your hair, you're a gay f*g who plays pseudo metal. I care about the music not the looks!"-
Ah I see.
Yeah, it’s like they think “x ruins metal” but when you think about it, VK is pretty niche in terms of like popularity. Most metal fans who act like this probably are pretty close minded
I mean, I think men look good with makeup lol.
It’s funny when people say that when in reality VK was partially inspired by 80s hair metal.
I hate metal elitists sometimes. Hell, I hate being part of the metal community to begin with
-
My partner is involved with the prog metal community, and I gotta say, they're surprisingly pretty open minded to Vkei. Especially compared to the boomers/wannabe boomers. I'd say try out the prog community, but they'd bombard you with technical musical terms that most orchestra players haven't even heard lol. The Djent community is also open minded to Vkei, as I've noticed there is a lot who are finding out about Deviloof and Nokubura, and are liking it. There is also considerable overlap between prog fans and Djent fans lol.
I think the main difference is that prog and Djent fans try out new music and are in general open minded, while metal boomers still listen to the same stuff they were as a child.

Whenever singing along to Vkei songs, does anyone else just make up the lyrics as you go along? Because that's generally what I do. I just sing whatever it sounds like they're singing because I'm just doing it for fun lol
-
oh man when I've recorded something that we've sung when drunk or something and listen to it the next day. you can even spot the moment when someone loses confidence in the lyrics and starts winging it with about 50% of the volume previously

I don't think I've ever known the lyrics to a full Japanese song and I have over 10 years of VK experience. I 'sing along great' in the car, but when it comes to Karaoke, I get totally busted XD

Whenever I do Karaoke with my friends, 90% of the time, I'm just winging it. I'm better at imitating the vocal style than I am at guessing lyrics though lmao

Ok, so a friend of mine are discussing about the extreme animosity between Kyo (Dir En Grey) and Kisaki (Syndrome, Phantasmagoria, Lin) and apparently, Kyo once took a nude photo of Kisaki as revenge. She said she doesn't know if the pic is real, and the person she got it from believed way too many Tanuki rumours and eventually was blocked. We're both now trying to find it again to see if it's real (I'm prepared to possibly see what is supposedly Kisaki's chode xD)
Does anyone know if it's real? If so, why was it taken?
-
It's (sadly?) not true. There might be Kisaki nude photos floating around since he was basically at every vk party and most likely fucking around for a very long time, but if so they weren't taken by Kyo. The supposed animosity is just old rumours that have stuck around for a long time but with no substance behind it, from what I gather it's greatly exaggerated and they have a cordial relationship these days.
-
@WhirlingBlackThat's what I was hoping. I mean, I know Kyo is an ass at times, but he's not that big of an ass.

So I found out something interesting. Kuroyuri to Kage and Dezert are connected. I'm serious. So Mei used to sing for this band called Rose Valley. Rose Valley''s guitarist used to play support for Yukilein, which is both Koyomi's and Chiaki's old band. I know that Kuro and K used to play for a band called Ice Cream. Anyone got any info on them?
-
http://id55.fm-p.jp/249/yukiline4/
@SadMoomin I found Yukilein's official website! Turns out, they're actually called Yukiline xD.
Also, apparently, they had a discography?
The discography page doesn't seem to have anything on it. I guess they planned to make releases, but never did
-
Hahaha I actually love this, like doing the Kevin Bacon game with bandmen XD

I hope when the Nightingeil revival is in full swing, that they'll release music videos. Nightingeil had a lack of music videos and that is disappointing because as a La'Mule fangirl, I've just gotten into Nightingeil and I need PVs xD.
Do they have any live DVDs?
-
New Kuroyuri single releases today!!!
I wish I could buy it from the webshop, since I do believe it's on the webshop. But IDK if they ship to the US. Probably not.
-
its not on the webshop yet. and yes you need to use a shopping service. im not buying it until next week probably. i hope they'll put it up after the gig today

Omg, Hayate (ex. GossiP) now plays drums in an idol band xD. The irony is real

According to the GossiP Argentina street team, this is Hayate's twitter.

At first I was thinking he sold out, until I realised that the credited songwriters for his band's first PV are all actual members of the band, especially the guitarist. So at least the idol group is creative.
It's just ironic knowing some of the songs about idols that GossiP has made xD. From what I see, no members of GossiP follow him, and I can't see what he follows, but Sora from Dezert follows him for some reason, but that doesn't mean anything about the current relations between him and the rest of the GossiP members

I want to address something that I feel needs to be. I'm sorry for how cringey I was during my first few months on this forum, with my weird fan theories, and my lowkey highkey defending of Kisaki. I was younger (granted, it wasn't THAT long ago) and more stupid, but I'm a young adult now, and I'm trying to move past from that.
I recognise how much of an idiot I was, and I am actively trying to improve. I'm taking more responsibility for myself here, and I've been trying to actually provide more reliable info on stuff as of recent, especially since I have friends within the Japanese VisualKei scene now (one, who I view dearly as a brother of mine, is in a small indie band, and actually sometimes volunteers to work with bigger (compared to his. Usually bands like the AINS bands) bands). I also recognise that I used to be a bit of an attention whore here, though I didn't realise it at the time until VERY recently.
The most recent incident was negligible, since it was more of a speculation based on actual logic. I don't think it compares to the stuff I've said in the past that I am authentically ashamed of, and am trying to look past.
I'm sorry to those I have angered in the past, or have given a really bad first impression of myself to. I hope you forgive me.
And if you still won't give me a 2nd chance, well that's totally fine. But I'm not leaving any time soon. I'm willing to give those who were mean to me due to the shit I said a 2nd chance though.
Just know I'm not the same person I was in 2016 (and yes, I know that sounds so stereotypical, but hear me out, ok? I dealt with some personal shit between then and now that made me realise I should probably work on being a better person.)
-
I love you too, Onii-chan!

Adding the .vob files to a rar archive for uploading. I'm probably just gonna upload those instead of the long ass video I put together.
-
@Shadowtear I was just adding them to a rar archive to put on mediafire for anyone who wants the raw files. I combined all the files into one video for uploading to youtube, and possibly uploading to Mediafire
-
Ah, I wish I got to this status earlier. There's software for .vob merging, so you wouldn't have to stitch/re-encode them together in a video editor. https://www.videohelp.com/software/VOBMerge
You could also use Handbrake to do MP4 rips, etc. from the DVD (libdvdcss can circumvent copy protection)

How does one change their name on MH? I'd like to change my screen name to something better than my current one lol.

New Agers have made it almost impossible to listen to traditional Asian music, especially Indian, Tibetan, and Japanese, without a bunch of shoehorned pseudo-science that doesn't even exist in Asia. Like, I just want to hear the music, I don't need a speech about how A432 Hz will "open your chakras and your third eye". I don't think they even care that much about the specific A-Note tuning in Asia.
As well, they've also made it really hard to find actual authentic traditional Asian music, because they market their FL Studio stuff as "Traditional", even though it doesn't musically resemble anything actually traditionally played in Asia. You can't just put a bunch of Chinese VSTs in FL Studio and call it "Traditional Japanese". (though there are also other reasons that traditional Asian music, that's actually authentic, is hard as fuck to find. Mostly due to stuff like Mao's cultural revolution and the pressure to westernise literally everything down to the sounds of the instruments. I'm looking at you, China)
-
The only thing worse than regular hippies are new age hippies.

Had to revisit this status b/c Adam Neely did a video on tuning to the different A432 Hz "chakra" frequencies. Though considering that the video was posted on the same day, your status might've been inspired from this (?)
I think there's benefits in using A432, but using it in such a haphazard snake-oil way is ridiculous. Ends up sounding ridiculous too, haha.
-
Oh yeah, that's another rabbit hole lol. I think A432 could be good if, say, you're a singer and its more in your range. But when it comes to the actual temperament, unless you're an experimental musician, the whole push to switch to something other than equal temperament honestly makes little sense in the scale of western music. Although alternate tuning systems are really fascinating.
