Mugen Minus started in 2006 and was a 4 piece electro folk band started by vocalist Jinpei Endo after his previous band Cock Roach ended in 2005. Cock roach was a musically dark and heavy whereas mugen minus was quite the opposite in terms of sound. It was acoustic and folky. I consider both bands to be two different sides of the same coin. Eventually mugen minus added Cock Roach's bassist Honda Chuya in 2007 to become a 5 piece.

mugen minus released their first album '死んだはずの僕の旅行' or 'The journey in which I should have died' in 2006, from which shissha ressha was the opening track. The band released a single in 2007 with new member Honda on bass and then released another album 'Perfect World' in 2008. Unfortunately in 2010, percussionist 前川和磨 was arrested for internet fraud, the things I vaguely remember was that it might have been related to a pornography website, and in typical Japanese fashion, he left or was fired from the band, and the whole band paused activities.

In 2008, shortly after mugen minus released 'Perfect World', Jinpei and Honda released a work under the name '博士と蟋蟀',  hakase to korogi or 'The Doctor and the Cricket' which thematically was closer to Cock roach's harder and darker sound.

Eventually mugen minus reformed in 2014 or 2015 but never recorded anything again and only played a few shows before Jinpei and Honda started officially reviving their high school band Cock Roach in 2017.

(I just realized I should make an artist thread for these bands as there's virtually nothing about them in English except through this connection from munimuni)

So it IS the same vocalist as the one from Cock Roach! :o I already thought they sounded familiar. Even more interested in this band now cuz I've really enjoyed everything I heard by Cock Roach so far.. Guess I know what I'll be looking into today lol

  2. Holy shit! I remember stumbling upon that Mugen Minus band completely randomly ages ago and not knowing who they were. Nice to suddenly find them here of all places

@Tokage Yeah, looks like it. I also looked around a bit and it seems these songs are indeed mostly "older" stuff just remastered: track 1 seems to be new (?), while all the other songs were previously released on their 2016 "20th anniversary" demo CD-R (and three of those were already released even before that, on a 2014 demo CD-R). I guess it's nice to have these in an updated form now in one place.

Track 1 is indeed new - it was released about a month ago:

Considering that those 2014 and 2016 CD-Rs are probably rather hard to come by in the first place it's nice to have this stuff compiled into a digital release!

Yeah, but there are actually covers or re-rec (about singles, correct me if I’m wrong)

As far as I know that cover album is at least supposed to be a sequel to the FC-limited cover album they dropped last year (the one featuring covers of Depeche Mode / YMO etc.) so presumably it's in the same style. I -think- those singles are actually completely new songs but they've been releasing so much lately that i haven't 100% been able to keep up with everything ...

  5. I've gotten around to beating Tomba 1 now as well. Managed to unlock 129 out of the 130 or so quests and completed around 126 of them. Pretty decent numbers I'd say. This is still a wonderful game! Highly recommended for fans of platformers and mildly metroidvania-esque games. Fuck that racing minigame hard though. (To be fair I can't think of almost a single platformer w/ racing minigames that are actually fun - those goddamn bike levels in Crash 3 also kinda kill the game)

Time to pick out something new.. Not sure if I should keep going and jump into Tomba 2 or if I should try and veer off my path and try out some Saturn games instead considering I've pretty much never played any of 'em...
