  1. I haven't seen anything about this here and it all seems to be pretty under-the-radar, but I thought I'd mention for those curious. :)

Sivy has formed his new band サラ (SARAH) sometime in mid-2019, with their first (?) live on 2019/10/21 at Meguro LIVE STATION. Since then they only made a small handful of live appearances, the latest being today's CHOP livestream (coincidentally Sivy's birthday).

It looks like so far they are mostly playing songs by DISH/dishes are scheming, but they already recorded their own track メルトメルナ (MELT MELUNA?) which they sold as a demo-CD at their live on 2020/03/25 at Ikebukuro CHOP.

The lineup is similar to that of a big DISH session event from last summer (I assume that's when the idea for this new project sparked):

     - vocals & guitar: シビィ (Sivy) (dishes are scheming, ANGRAYSE)

     - guitar: 太三 (Taizo) (CYTOCHROME)

     - bass: マスハラカツヒコ (Masuhara Katsuhiko) (koldcake, Musu Bore)

     - drums: TELL (ex-AUTO-MOD, ex-MUNIMUNI, ex-emmurée, Musu Bore etc.)

  2. The Vast of Night - It's truly amazing how much you can achieve with only a good script and a (I assume) limited budget. This is a recent sci-fi movie set in 1950s USA, with the most exciting and tense moments happening while people are just talking over the phone, the radio or just to each other. No over-the-top flashy effects or mindless grand-scale action scenes (those have their place too, of course, just in a different type of movie). Even though the setup might sound boring to some at first glance, it was a truly entertaining and thrilling experience. The main characters were really neat too. I recommend it if you're looking for contemporary sci-fi that's not 'sci-fi action' (like most of today's usual hyped-up 'science fiction' flicks).

  3. I'm wondering how long the two-man gigs with deadman are gonna be delayed... considering the fact that the deadman revival is only supposed to function till autumn, lol (but of course the whole tour had to be postponed twice already).

In any case it would be cool if cali-gari would just decide to fuck it and stream for free, even just once, like basically 95% of the other (even much smaller) vk bands. I'd be even fine with a weekly stream of a previously released live DVD like how BUCK-TICK does it recently.

re: Ao playing "air guitar" - I'm still kinda weirded out how after the band came back from hiatus the playback shtick is more and more prevalent... Like I can sort of understand having a guitar backing track when the song calls for it (i.e. it has multiple totally different guitar tracks going on at the same time), but even with the more simplistic songs Ao seems to be slacking off these years... :-( Like that very loud backing track in -Tou- that's just the same as what Ao plays live, lol. Oh well...

  4. Nice, the full version finally! I was beginning to wonder whether they've forgotten about the "original" two MVs from when they were promoting the album. :D I think I vaguely remember them mentioning something on Twitter about the other one too (馬鹿とハサミの使い方) so I guess we can expect that one soon. *prepares for the extreme haircutting*

  5. I totally randomly ended up at Ye Olde Livejournale Community of the band (I see you were quite an active member there @carddass I didn't even realize your name and avatar were familiar - my nick was jani_kun on LJ :D) and for my own amusement tried to put some lyrics in Google Translator....... and they shockingly came out pretty great!! Not sure how accurate but at least totally comprehensible. :')))

    Here's Fuffuu:

    Quote

Let the moon rise in the night, spread your wings,
    Collect spilled dreams.
In the shadow that stretches against the darkness
    Keep going around and swaying.

At the end of your finger tracing,
In the memory, the colors I showed you.
Melt, hurt each other, hate each other,
    A dirty night carves me.

The moon is beautiful, Cry For The Moon
This eye, this arm, what do you know...
    Bloody tears sink me down.
I don't want to think of that night.

    bito 4 you:

    Quote

    Body temperature at midnight.
    We are like bugs.
    And suddenly
    Dreaming of god killing,
    Dreaming of flowers falling.

    Without sound,
    Silently,
    There is no color,
    Without shadow.

    Beat For You...

    On a beautiful night,
A flower that looks like you.
    For slow chopping.

    In the coming morning,
La la la, the colors are dyed.

Power (I adjusted this one a bit):

    Quote

    Deep, deep, deep, deep.
    The moon has opened.
Jet-black Parade seen in the funeral procession of the rose for Dears...

Pandora's cat dyed red and red, raising one leg
That blood-colored flower looks good on you...

    I'm waiting for
    Power-wer-wer

    Power-wer-wer

(other ones I checked didn't come out as smoothly, lol)

Anyway hi all, I've liked cali gari for years, haven't kept up at all in the past few years, but with corona I have had a lot of time to myself so I guess I decided to dive right back in and be shuuji's personal atm by joining the FC after years of humming and hawing over whether I should or not.

Good comeback I say! :D Did you miss out on listening to any releases? There's been some good shit these past few years.

I am glad more bands are starting to embrace digital sales and share their music online via streaming.

I agree, especially about the digital sales! for old dinosaurs like me who don't want to get into streaming too much, lol.

My interest is also moderately piqued by this band, even though I haven't heard anything mindblowing so far, but at least the visuals look neat.

  8. Thank you for the summary, @anakuro, I love reading stuff like this (especially since I don't understand like 98% of Japanese myself). :D

Somehow I'm not surprised at the Kenjirou and the "Ao freeform guitar solo" remarks, haha.

  9. Okay, I take back what I said, this new BMSS album fucks hard. I'm vibing with the synthy goodness so much on track 2 & 3 and the vocoder in that one later epic song.

edit: Just listening to the "Circles within Circles" album by Assassination, great stuff! Really catchy too. :D I tried again with Edelweiss but something about the sound feels kinda weak/meh to me... even tho I kinda wanna like them cuz they sampled some old Hungarian cartoon at the beginning of one of their songs, lol.

edit2: These Assassination guys are absolute mad lads, already released a new song a couple days ago from an upcoming new release.

  10. To mark the 20th anniversary of the release of MUCC's first-ever single "娼婦/廃" (Shoufu/Hai), the band will release a special re-recorded version titled "娼婦 2020" (Shoufu 2020). Tooru Yoshida (keyboardist/producer who has supported MUCC in various ways recently) has overseen the production of this release, while guitarist Miya dealt with remastering duties where applicable. Famed horror mangaka Junji Ito did the cover art (who also designed the band's classic "Houmura uta" cover). The single is a made-to-order product, so they will only produce as many copies as the number of orders they receive for it, starting from 2020/06/09.

    Tracklist:

    01 娼婦 (Shoufu) 2020
    02 娼婦 (Shoufu) 2006
03 娼婦 (Shoufu) 2000 Original Mix
    04 娼婦 (Shoufu) 1999 Demo

    Cover art:

(There's also a whole line of Junji Ito collaboration goods being produced apparently.)

Oh its a commentary track from Ao that you can listen to while watching yesterday's gig at the same time. Like a director's commentary track in movie DVDs, if you will.

    ooooooooooh alrighty then.

  12. As someone who really enjoyed the band's early releases but not so much the latter/more recent output, this feels a bit lame to me. No matter what flaws the original recordings might have, things like this usually don't end up being good or necessary (like 8 out of 10 times).

Btw, its held at Ikekuburo Chop, a venue they last played in 2013 which interestingly, was also broadcast-ed live via niconico (for a price!)

LMAO of course it's CHOP! :D They've been livestreaming stuff like crazy these past few months (tho mostly for free, with optional donations). I might've even seen the CHOP Twitter account retweet the band's announcement about it but i didn't make the connection in my head.

Thanks for digging up the pics and the info. I'm sort of excited about that mysterious last bit. "That summer 20 years ago" coincides right with the Blue Film mini album (released in July 2000), hmmmmm

edit: Just saw the new bandpic btw:

Also Ao tweeted something about uploading something on Youtube in a few hours (?).

  14. Setlist looks pretty okay! If I understood correctly, those who paid for the stream will have a chance to re-watch it in some sort of archive form later, tho I highly doubt us plebs will ever get to see it, heh. :D

Also yeah, agreed @Tokage wtf, time flies fast when 2/3 of your band activity is releasing FC-only stuff huh. :^)
