  1. These days I've been parking on certain labels. I tend to find that a label's output of music remains consistent in quality and content so it's likely I'll enjoy their new releases. And, if I like a band enough I'll follow any side projects done by any band members.

Bandcamp is sometimes good too as you can see what the most recent hype is right on their homepage.

I also find that looking for vinyl records is a surprisingly serendipitous way of finding good music. Most music I enjoy nowadays have vinyl releases so I follow different forums and news sites to keep up.

  2. The singles leading up to Toxic had some kiiiiller b-sides. And, take all the singles from Shiver to Remember the Urge and you got yourself a Toxic 2.

Also, Sludgy Cult is probably my favorite post-Dim album song.

“The concept is Division so we’ll split the songs across two discs and then just release a single disc version and smash the track list of one disc in the middle of the other.”

also, yeah, that’s exactly what Slipknot riff they used. Though to be fair, DEG did it too in the latter half of Reiketsu Nariseba.

Haha whoops. Forgot about that one.

Yeah but I didn't even notice when DEG did it. Gonna have to listen for it next time.

I honestly think DIM is a much darker album on a thematic level. DOGMA’s issue is that it seems like the band decided before recording it that it was going to be dark. It doesn’t sound genuine. I’m sure Ruki is angry, but taking a Slipknot riff and calling it RAGE comes off a bit, I dunno, phony.

To your point, I feel like everything they've done post 'Before I decay' has been too concept driven.

"This is the dark age. So now our music is going to be dark.", "This is the electronic age. So now our music is going to be electronic."

Lol at Slipknot worship. You're right, I think I hear some people=s***

  5. They should pick up their punk roots again. Strip down all the ambiance, electronics, dramatic presentation and just give us 50 minutes of raw riffs and focused song writing. Dogma was so full of fluff, I think a deconstruction of their sound would do them some good.

Are there really unplugged versions of dozing green and hageshisa???

Coz I'm not aware of it

Oh man, I meant re-recorded tracks haha. Sorry to induce fake hype.

  7. I think their best unplugged re-recorded tracks are between Dozing Green and Hageshisa... They did a great job keeping the original feel and structure of the song while pushing it in a new direction with their current sound at the time. It's like they deconstructed the songs and put them back together with attention to detail while replacing only the parts that needed it.

From Lotus and onwards it feels like their re-recordings were more about updating the sound rather than enhancing what was there before. As a result, you get sloppy and unsatisfying products like "Obscure", "Kiri to Mayu", and a majority of songs off The Unraveling. It's like they used a DSS "fast and heavy" template on songs they weren't sure how to re-record and so they all end up sounding the same.

I love Ain't afraid to die I so wish they would remake that one as it never appeared  remastered on any other album. A new version with a sound similar to that of kaishun would be fucking brilliant. I think Ain't afraid to die is their most lovely and beautiful song. It makes me cry to hear it sometimes. And I think it's so underrated and overlooked by most deg fans.

    Thoughts?

It's actually my favorite DEG song of all time, but please for the love of Dynamite Tommy do NOT remake it. I think it's perfect now and doesn't need a re-imagining.

  9. TMOAB is so underrated. I loved the visceral and violent production and there were a lot of killer riffs on a good deal of songs like Grief, Disabled Complexes, Rotting Root, and Repetition of Hatred. It's nothing special, but I don't think it's as bad as people discredit it. And I don't care what anyone says, Agitated Screams of Maggots is a jam.
