  1. Johnny Depp looks kind of hilarious in this, his crack head expressioned face freaking out every scene. X)

@Jigsaw9 Oh I saw what you did thar

@SeimeisenDefinitely give it more time. I think Pale Emperor is, no question, a stronger album, but there are some interesting things happening in some of the details of Heaven Upside Down. Definitely a step back in direction from the matured bluesy Pale Emperor, but at times this album hits this threshold of Manson at his most refined AND most hammiest that keeps me entertained and coming back.

  2. HUD is gud. REALYLLY GOOD. I didn't think Manson would ever be able to go back to an industrial/punk rock style and make it good. I hope Tyler sticks around for many more albums to come.

My biggest issue with the album though is flow. I've listened to it maybe around 6 times now but it just doesn't flow as well as The Pale Emperor.

    Favorite tracks right now are:

    Revelation 12

    Tatooes in Reverse

    Say10

    Saturnalia

    Jesus Crisis

    Blood Honey

I did listen to Third Day of a Seven Day Binge quite a lot, but I never managed to get into the rest of The Pale emperor. I did only listen to the whole thing a few times though, so I should probably give it another shot. Do you have any gems from the album to recommend?
I really wanted to like Born villain since I liked The high end of low so much, but I can't honestly say one good thing about it besides the You're so vain cover.

We know where you fucking live is the first song I heard from HUD, so I should probably listen to a few more songs before I judge the whole album. I guess my problem is partly that Manson sounds a bit like a band that's very inspired by the mid- to late 90's Manson sound, but doesn't know how to write interesting songs, I think a lot of it is very "samey" and forgettable.
But most of all I'm not a huge fan of Manson's lyrics anymore, I don't know if the old stuff is better or if I just listened to it so much it started to sound good, but whenever I hear lines like "I don't know if I can open up, I'm not a birthday present" or "I know where you fucking live" I just instantly feel like changing song. I guess it's just not for me!

Personally,  I also really liked Deep Six, The Mephistopheles of Los Angeles, Slave only Dreams to be King, and Birds of Hell Awaiting. I think my favorite thing about the album though is Manson's vocal performance. It's definitely not what it used to be but I feel that his current singing style fit perfectly with the sound of TPE.

I agree with that. I think he lost a lot of his ferocity and fire in recent years and, especially with all the falling outs with past members and Interscope Records, I'm sure his musical influence has changed since times of the triptych. I think his lyrics have definitely changed. He talks less about politics or current events and more about himself. A common criticism I've heard is that with his change in lyrical focus, people feel Manson's lost his edge or shock value. But yeah, I think his lyrics don't quite have the same impact as they used to and they can be kind of cringey at times.

I really liked The high end of low but I'm having a hard time getting into the two subsequent albums, and I feel like everything I disliked about those two albums is culminating in this new single. I have no hope for the upcoming album, I'm just happy I didn't spend money on the fall tour at this point.

I could never finish Born Villain as I get bored a few songs in, but I absolutely loved The Pale Emperor. It was a more matured album and I think him experimenting with a more bluesy laid back style was a breath of fresh air.

Can't say that I'm quite on the hype train for HUD either, but I am looking forward to seeing what Manson's still got. Revelation 12 and Say10 sound pretty promising. What are the qualities from Born Villain and The Pale Emperor that you don't like?

  5. Hey Marilyn, Hitman called. They want their nun assassins back.
And Sinister called. They want their super-8 film back!

Joking aside, I think the music video could've been edited better. Nothing really happens in the middle and the footage doesn't really flow in line with the intense moments of the song. But the songs really grown on me.

Hell yeahhhhh, can't wait! My inner angsty teenager is pleased. :D

The new single sounds decent, tho I liked it a bit better live. This recording sounds kinda mechanical, and took away a bit of the ferocity of the live version.

Agreed! The studio version sounds overproduced and compressed. It's a bit too sterile and needs more roughness.

I'm really looking forward to hearing "say10". It's got a nice industrial vibe.

That'll  be fun! Take some photos!

  7. I had the same listening curve with Trevor Something and, yeah vocals. But after some listening I noticed how great his production is and wanted to check out the rest of his catalog. I'm disappointed by his latest releases though as he's practically moved away from synth in favor of rock/punk.

Do you guys know Electric Dragon? Came across this guy a few days ago, pretty decent stuff.

I just discovered him last week! Yeah, not bad at all. He sounds like a mix of GosT, Volkor X, and Magic Sword to me.

Vinyl pre-orders are going up this sunday on Neuropa's website. I'll definitely be nabbing one:

It's a good offer, but I haven't sold it. No idea why, because I would still have the music on vinyl after the sale+trade. But yeah, some things I just have a hard time getting rid off. Recently moved and promised myself I'd get rid of most of my VHS', but I only manage to throw away 3 of them. The rest I had to keep. :D

    Haha! Are you Dan? :D

Perturbator is always great, and the new one sounds great too.

Also thinking about getting Dan Terminus on vinyl. Great release.

Hahaha it's hard to throw stuff away that you've kept for years. I'd keep it!

Yeah how'd you know! I didn't send you a message did I? Haha XD

Wrath Of Code is great. I rebought it on clear along with the swirl of "Automated Refrains". That preview track has got me stoked.

Do you think you'll be seeing Perturbator on his 2nd US tour? I'll be going to the Boston show.

Guess I'm a bit late to the party, but I just discovered this genre and I'm totally in love with it. Having grown up in the 90s, the nostalgia factor doesn't really exist for me, but I really enjoy the sound and aesthetic.

Anyone got some recommendations for essential albums? So far, I've been enjoying FM-84's "Atlas" and Waveshaper's stuff a lot. Also wanted to check out Perturbator and Dance with the Dead. I'm especially interested in Cyberpunk/Sci-Fi inspired stuff in the vein of for example Blade Runner, but anything goes honestly.

Also, @Bear I saw that you got some LPs, where do you usually get them? I only found digital releases and if they were available physically, they were sold out.

I love FM-84 and Waveshaper. I'd also recommend The Midnight "Endless Summer", Morgan Willis "Rage", and Gunship "Gunship" for more 80's inspired synth and vocals.

I second Trevor Something and also recommend "Souless Computer Boy and the Eternal Render". It's half tracks with vocals and half ambient instrumentals.

Perturbator's second album "I am the night" is so great too, probably my favorite after "The Uncanny Valley".

For more cyberpunk stuff I highly recommend Tommy 86 "Transhumanism" and anything from Dan Terminus (he has a new album releasing soon too. If you're into vinyl it can be ordered on the blood music website). They're both on the same label as Perturbator and GosT.

contrary, i loved toxic and division

while i was never bothered to give a 2nd listen to beautiful deformity (so so boring).

dogma could've been something great and tight ...

but it wasnt something that interesting after all.

im sure gazette will make something hype-y worth a while.

...which will last for only a couple of weeks max ?

    all in my opinion.

    My practically exact thoughts.

I think Toxic is underrated and, minus a few duds,  featured a lot of songs with memorable melodies and riffs and solid song writing.

Division was unfocused and their concept didn't really stick with me. A lot of tracks sounded sloppy or unfinished and had me wishing they spent just a little more time coming up with better melodies and flow. There ARE some great songs on here as is though and there were some shining moments instrumentally here and there.

Beautiful Deformity is like a mash of Toxic and Division with solid production but with not much memorable content.

I thought Dogma was a step in the right direction but I too found it to be overrated. I like that they were able to put their heavy sound on the forefront but I think it suffered from a lack of interesting riffs or ideas. Ruki really brought everything he had on this album though and it was much appreciated return to form.

Holy fuck, I do not know what to do right now. I own Perturbator's "Dangerous Days" on red/blue splatter limited to 200 ex, and some guy saw I owned it and asked me if I had it for sale. I said that everything I own is for sale if someone offers enough, however I was honest and told him I was a greedy fuck and he'd probably have to pay up quite an amount of money, more than any sane human being would be able to do.

    His offer?

All fees would be on me. That means:

    100 € Paypal + Fees

Another limited version of Dangerous Days that sells for $60
Shipping Fees for your LP to my home
Shipping Fees for my LP to your home

That is quite an offer for a record I paid something like $30-40 for. I am so fucking tempted by this, especially since I've been considering getting rid of the majority of my collection anyway. But at the same time I'm having a hard time parting ways with the release. It's such a fucking sexy release.

Dang, that IS quite the offer.

I've been looking for a copy and your story gave me hope, so I just spammed a bunch of different people on discogs and I found a guy that just sold me a copy for a good price. I'm so stoked to be getting it in the mail.

Have you given the new tracks off his upcoming EP a listen? I like what I hear. It's a bit different than what he's done so far, but not too far from his formula.

  12. What's going on MH.

I was on a short haitus while putting my life into order. I was working a life-consuming job that left me no time and energy for myself while planning a spontaneous move to start a brand new life. I had to find a new job and adjust to the new city and I just wasn't in a place where I felt like I could devote any time to the forum.

I've finally worked everything out and I feel that I'm now in a place where I can be a part of this community with a free mind and heart. So, I'm excited to say..

  13. I think this may be what is going on:

    Tsuuzetsu

    • CD 1
      • Re-recording
    • CD 2
      • Track-listing & mix from the 1st press of Tsuuzetsu (2001)

    Homura Uta

    • CD 1
      • Re-recording
    • CD 2
      • Track-listing & mix from the 3rd press of Homura Uta (2004)

From the sounds of this description from Puresoundit sound like it's meant to be a release that compares the old Mucc and the current Mucc.

When they say [DISC-2:Tsuuzetsu 1st] I'm positive they're referring to the 1st press of Tsuuzetsu, and when they say [DISC-2:Homura Uta -ReMASTER-] I think they're referring to the 3rd pressing of Homura Uta which was indeed remastered (slightly clearer dynamic range and punchier than the first press.) and included Suiso (which was not included in any other pressing of Homura Uta).

While I'm talking about Homura Uta, funny little tidbit about the different pressings is that the only aesthetic differences between the two is that the 3rd press has a giant black & white sticker on the back of the shrink wrap with different catalog number information, the CD matrix has a different catalog number to reflect the pressing, and there's an extra little insert with lyrics for Suiso. Everywhere else you'll see that the packaging and artwork is pulled straight from the first press down to the catalog number on the case and even the bonus CD.

Oh man, I really hope you get a chance to listen to them live someday. That show was fantastic, the music, the performance, the lights, videos in the background, everything. They even did a cover of "She's a Maniac" and everyone went wild. Really hope they tour near you sometime!

    You mean at 9:27?

that's in the album version mix, this mix just made it louder.

Edit: nvm it's in the single too so i have no idea what you're talking about

Huh, I don't remember that melody being there.
Guess it's been a while since I've heard the song.

*EDIT: No wait, I mean at 10:53. That extra bit isn't in the original versions.

  16. It being radio quality it's hard to make any solid conclusions, but I think the re-recordings will end up being enjoyable at the very least. I like the cleaner production, although I mostly prefer the instrumental & vocal executions from the original versions. Also, I think whoever mixed this had a bit too much fun with the reverb *cough, cough Cassis-drum-fill-after-acoustic-section*.

It would have been nice to hear them change up the songs a little, but maybe not actually. That extra melody Ruki added near the end of Guren did not fit in well.
