  1. @deadman Thank you very much for the short translation, it explains a lot and changes my view a little of what he said before! However i do still believe the major label etc. had a do in the change of style too.

Contrary to what i expected before - i really like this album. Since the release of the album im actually listening to it non stop and cant remember when i last enjoyed an album this much. I even stoppped listening to DIMLIMs really good album because i listen to this.

I was really dissapointed of the samples and after loving their early stlye i hated they would become another MUCC. But as with MUCC i might tread them just as 2 different bands old DEZERT and "J-Pop" DEZERT (as their label put them in a J-Pop Playlist). What i like is that it still sound very "depressive" for me.

Interestingly, the song most sounding like their old style (for the guitar), 蛙とバットと機関銃, is my least favorite, because it sounds so forced.

    Favorites: 沈黙, Hello, オレンジの詩, TODAY.

Rating: Something between 8 or 9/10 (so better than their 2nd album for me).

I will enjoy DAMY and DIMLIM and the likes as "heavy" bands and will enjoy this new DEZERT as something different. However always: the intro bass riff on their first album (that one they took from DAMY) : best things they've ever done. (+ that short eroguro style section in 飼育部屋 (01:03-01:18))

Offtopic: I actually dont want to go further into the 12012 discussion (i remember 10 years ago or so i was 1 of the 2-3 people on here defending the position 12012 actually didnt change their style (against a "massive" hating crowd), just developed (you can see this when playing their songs on guitar etc. (they changed for their self titled tho, not returned to old style!)) - however im not sure i would have the same position today). But if you want to see a cut it is after their first album and best of with orion and not because of the scandal if it was after their 2nd album (i dont remember when the scandal started). I split them into 4 playlists having similar sound: 2003-2006 (best era for me), 2006 (orion) - 2009 (mar maroon), 2009 (薄紅と雨) - 2010 (SEVEN), 2012-2014. I saw them once live at an event and they played songs from all eras while looking like normal dudes (no makeup costumes). So they didnt ignore their old songs or anything. Oh and they had like no fans caring for them at that live.

  2. Seems that ex-BUK BUK vocalist  (Awa)'s session band "沫セッション" (Awa session) is now called "AWA" and is directly described as "ex-BUK BUK" and they play mainly/(only?) BUK BUK songs. Also seems that れ。 (ex-BUK BUK) would be their bassist but since he cant participate at announced lives (?)  will replace him (he played guitar with Awa before). Awa also plays guitar alongside am.

Meanwhile ex-BUK BUK guitar 純 (Jun) seems to play in other session bands that cover mostly DEZERT songs.

I dont get why they just dont continued as BUK BUK in the old DEZERT style direction.

I mean, in all fairness to both you and @Kiryu999, it basically IS classic VK marketing 101... Actually, y'know, I wouldn't even be very surprised if they would  pull another one of those 'collection album' deals with maybe one or two bonus tracks tacked on at the end after all these singles drop.

    42-type single when???

Makes me wonder if they're actually on a secretly revived Under Code Production label.

  4. 5 minutes ago, Tokage said:

why don't they just release this as a fucking full-length album instead of as a whole bunch of singles? Even the A and B types are pretty much completely different tracklist-wise other than the A-Sides

You are too long in the game to not know! Assuming an album is 3000yen, here you pay 8100yen for all songs. I could accept if they release them over a span of time to keep the interest up, but the 2nd and 3rd single seem to be released on the same day.

(@Kiryu999 beat my post by like 1 second :D)

  5. I wonder if they purposely tried to mix as many different vk styles as possible.

That poppish intro, that Yumeleep like start riff, pop vk verse, metal bridge, i dont even have a word for the chorus and then even a part that sounds straight out of any angura/eroguro song.

    Really interested in this!

The scream at the end from the last song on their mini last year was my favorite scream of 2017!

I will never understand what of "musical differences", why do not they speak it before starting a project?

    Yes, exactly

I guess you two have never played in a band before? Its so common and the main problem in a band because mostly you have 5 people with 5 different opinions..

Real life kicks in and they realize they can not do bands indefinetely. They decide to get a real job.

+ Arguing of the members about what to play how aka musical differences (anyone who ever played in a band will understand easily).

Those two are definitly the main reasons. All those drama reasons you wrote are funny but not the main problems i think (while still exceptionally high in vk compared to other genres).

this can't be real lmao! i can't believe chiaki let this happen after talking so much shit about not wanting to go major and that kind of stuff

I felt he talked so honestly at the oneman i went to about questioning why doing music. I thought you become like that AFTER you do such shitty music with major change but not doubt music and then your solution is to make flat pop music?!

  9. I feel like i've heard the vocal melodies of 蝶々 and 浴室と矛盾とハンマー in other songs from them already, just with more popish instruments now. Thought to buy the limited edition but no thanks, not even the regular after the samples. Last nail in the coffin for DEZERT for me.

Reminds me a little bit of the change of MUCC from some of the deepest/best albums put out in vk to total flat everyday radio music.

I'm looking for any bands that are a little bit similar to Orcalade or Dexcore (old bands example would be meth/Maverick or Deathgaze, Since1899).

I also like weird vocalists similar to yumeleep (or old example-> ganeisha). If anyone has a recommendation, I'd be happy :)

I would try DARIAN MARIAN, DARRELL, GENGAH, Misanthropist, Screech in2 the Rain., THE ENDEMIC OAK (similar to meth. before disbanding), Vercia.
Weird vocalists i would try Ⅸ -NINE-, gezigezi, MUNIMUNI, Noulla, SAVAGE, モンストロ

I think I always appreciated what I could see of these guys as people.

I think you will never know the people behind the character they play in a band except you know them closely in their freetime (surely this goes for most people in bands, artists, etc.). Everything in vk is just an image, says nothing about the actual person imo/from my experiences.

If they replace the two vocalists with someone else, even vocaloid or something, Starry Night wouldnt be

that bad. Would somewhat remind me of this:

  12. I followed them like crazy in 2013-early2014, getting all those 1 day only store limited shit because i loved 暁 in Diverse glare in Riot. But after their good self titled they became just too repetitive for me, maybe the most repetitive band i've ever heard. I tried many times to like them but every time i feel i listen to the same song over and over and over again, sadly mostly for 暁's vocals. I've had their playlist with idk somewhat 40 songs on them in the background once while friends visited and after some time they asked me to put on another song, they didnt notice there were more than 2-3 rotating songs played... I switched to the Diverse glare in Riot single and they said this is much much better for the vocalist and i told them its the same vocalist which they didnt believe at first. I thought its quite obvious that its still the same voice? That story really did happen, lol

Also, i was hugly dissapointed and shocked when seeing them live in 2014. I felt besides their drummer everyone had no talent at all (im not sure bass and guitar even played their instruments or those were playback). Maybe only HOLLOWGRAM shocked me more that day with how bad they were live.

But watching their live videos on youtube they seem to have improved live wise (while those cant be used for judging a band tho) and doing well (are they?), so seems they're just not my cup of tea. Still always sad that potential he showed in Diverse glare in Riot was lost to this. Also for me, im always disgusted by those horrible "screams" hes doing. But they do have great band pictures! I really like the current one in the woods.

(Sorry for my negative points to your list/efforts :/ )

that it's Kaoru who forces shots on people. What I didn't translate was a large section in the video where Die and Gara talked about some of the senpai/ kouhai bullshit they have had to put up with.

Well, isnt that a general senpai/kohai problem? I've heard and seen myself several situations at nomikais where the senpai forces a kohai to do funny or strange stuff (forcing shots being the most harmelss).

I don't want Screw fans telling me they feel bad for [Byou]
This is the vertical society of bands
Now we don't have a vertical society so there's been more dumbass bands

Best explanation i've seen so far why more "modern" bands (well the quote is 10 years old already tho) are shitty:D

when I asked for one ticket this guy with shaggy hair at the table actually asked me "You know who's playing tonight?" He didn't sound mean about it, I think he genuinely wanted to save me from seeing this show normally reserved for younger women assuming I had just stumbled to the club looking for any live music I could find. I assured him I was there to see The Gallo and he handed me my paper ticket that doubled as a drink ticket.

Are you sure he didnt ask which band you came to see and should receive your ticket money (which is done at all vk lives i went (even sponsored events) besides obvious one-mans). Would be really funny if he meant it the way you described tho :D

Also the live house i've never heard of, i feel its often just always the same 10 live houses bands play at and some are horrible for the audience to stand/see, so cool when they/the scene expands to others.

17 hours ago, The Reverend said:

their website says the capacity is 130 and I'd say this show had about 80-90 people in attendance. The head count reminded me just how niche a scene VK is. I'd consider The Gallo and Lack-co two of the more well-known indies bands, so it was a bit jarring to see the small venue they were playing at even in a giant city. I'm obviously too deep into VK to remember that almost no one cares about this stuff.

Thats quite a lot! Whenever i saw The Gallo (which was at events with many bands only tho) they had much less fans (however i can imagine they prefer to go to such event than one with many bands playing shorter time). However, their fans were one of the most motivated ones, smiling handing out paper plates and plastic spoons to audience members that didnt bring some so everyone could clap along (however many left whenever the Gallo plays).

  15. I think @RazorGenesis list is pretty accurate. The top 3 arent even arguably as taste, their ranking is simply a fact.:D

Edit: I took the time and gave every song (including intros/SE's) a x/10 ranking (purely from listening to an album and not how the songs are perfomed/enjoyable live) and calculated the average of every album and this is the resulting ranking :

    01. underneath the skin (2005) 9.2

    02. THE AVOIDED SUN (2007) 9.1

    03. THE BURIED (2007) 8.4

    04. greedy dead souls (2005) 8.1

    05. SHADOWS (2009) 6.7

    06. GALLOWS (2014) 6.6

    07. I BELIEVE IN ME (2011) 6.4

    08. XIII (2018) 5.8

    09. INFERIORITY COMPLEX (2012) 5.7

    10. D.A.R.K. -In the name of evil- (2015) 5.6

    11. SINNERS -no one can fake my bløod- (2018) 5.4

    12. AVANTGARDE (2016) 5.3

    13. EXODUS-EP (2013) 5.2

Im suprised SHADOWS ranked so high and INFERIORITY COMPLEX/D.A.R.K. -In the name of evil- much lower. Those had good songs on it but all those filler/boring songs pulled the overall ranking of the album down.

The only songs getting a 9/10 or 10/10 after 2007 are LAST NITE and ADORE from SHADOWS (both 9/10), LIE from I BELIEVE IN ME (9/10) and RING from GALLOWS (10/10).

After 2015's D.A.R.K. -In the name of evil- the only notably songs are D.A.R.K. and MOON (both from D.A.R.K. -In the name of evil- with 8/10) and PHANTOM from AVANTGARDE (8/10) (and maybe A FOOL from the new XIII which i nearly gave 8/10 but ended with 7/10).

  16. Yeah, really poppy but i mean it was kind of logical it would end like this since every release was a further step in this direction. Miss the dark atmosphere of their first releases but i do still like this. Had some really fresh stuff in it imo. But hope the album will have darker songs aswell.

The look reminds me a lot of their early days before their first single and before they started to look more "dark"/DEZERT inspired. I feel like this DEZERT phase from their first single until the first album was kind of to build a fanbase and after that they changed to what they really wanted to do (as hinted by the stuff before the DEZERT stuff).

  17. After listening to the album 8-10 times i somehow cant remember one thing (somehow that reminds me of how its like listening to an アルルカン record lol) except i dont like Joker. Usually lynch albums have great songs along fillers and annoying songs. This one however i dont notice anything particular. However, if i remove Joker from the playlist i have a pleasant feeling listening through it, so maybe needs more time to remember certain parts..

  18. Somehow they never released anything intersesting afterトラウマ, but i do have to say this band suprised me by how well the band played and especially their singer sung. While they did play live it sounded like a CD recorded, they hit every note perfectl as far as i could hear.

I feel the whole band, but especially their vocalist, are really talented muscially (vocalist maybe most skilled i've seen live so far), but dont have any interesting thing about them. Its like someone gave them this look and theme and they just tried to make something out of it.
