MUCC in mid 00's was terrifying. Sometimes I felt they had a new single like every week.

I think 2006 was their peak (granted, it was a special year for them). 2 studio albums, 4 singles + a cover album and special privilege live album for those that bought a bunch of their stuff during that year.

But, I think KuRt got them beat. KuRt was around for less than 2 years and released staggering ELEVEN SINGLES and one mini-album. PLUS, distributed CDs and omnibus.

    KuRt

    unique songs: ≳40

    productivity rate: ≳ 20 songs/year

And, gosh, remember 彩冷える when 涼平 wrote pretty much everything? I'm pretty sure that between 2005/06 they averaged a single every 40 days. I don't like 彩冷える so can't be sure just how much stuff they released, but I'm pretty sure it's in that same "over-20 songs-a-year-ballpark". Fuck SPEED DISK.

    FUCK! I wanna go!

And I'm really happy to see the acoustic version of Happy life included. Def. one of my favorite moments of their concert. Extremely sweet melodies and it works great in a quieter version.

    And of course, this one:

And then Black Gene For the Next Scene's Chaotic Christmas, which I can't find on youtube. And probably more I can't remember right now.

Ugh…I really hate this song. SO bloated!

I Wish remains the ONLY christmas-y L'Arc~en~Ciel song worth listnening:

    Others worth mentioning:

as much as catchy Vinett was, I can't take them seriously because of their members past bands... It was like a bunch of old dudes getting together to make some cash on the new sound kids are enjoying now... you really can't go from Akai Meikyuu to Twinkle Twinkle without some serious kind of music direction compromise

If you can create something as fun and rocking as HAPPY!!, yeah you can.

And here are a couple of other songs I liked back in the day:

I haven't listened to some of these songs in over 10 years. Holy crap... this was a great thread. We need more of these.

  5. I know that some people already mentioned them, but I have to say it again: Vinett was friggin' amazing. Their album is so very sweet. One of my favorite moments from 2004.

And it's interesting to see just how incredibly influential バロック was. There were tons of copycats, but very seldom they were able to recreate the songwriting prowess of 圭 and 晃. That and the insane charisma and character that 怜 has. Damn, they are good...

If you don't love early Kra there's something really wrong with you. The first five minis are still cool! ブリキの旗 just might be on my top 20 V系 songs ever. Unfortunately for them, 舞ちょ was the heart and soul of the band. When he left, the last bit of my attention also went out the window. But I'll be damned if 景夕 and 結良 weren't great.

  8. Happy life is a banging single, y'all. One of their best, actually and it totally fits with their current mindset. Plus, the acoustic version MERRY's been playing live recentIy? Pfff... talk about gorgeousness!

You can tell MERRY are in a really good place musically and mentally. They seem to be really happy with the band and themselves. You should've seem them live, especially now that テツ is back. They are always smiling, laughing, cracking jokes about each other. The mood seems to be excellent. Confident in their habilities, but still hungry to prove people that they are still relevant. NOnsenSe MARkeT was such a big step to them and quickly became one of my favorites. MERRY is a band that I've loved since the beginning and this one I can say from almost the very beginning. I've been following them for over 14 years (since 個性派ブレンド!).

They always had good and bad moments, ups and dows in their career. When MERRY went major in 2005 was a bit wierd, they had some cool songs here and there, but there was something off. Then, joining sun-krad and FIREWALL DIV., and trying to become a DIR EN GREY clone was also a baffling mistake (from an artistic standpoint and maybe even a financial one, it just didn't make sense to alienate your fanbase like that...), Still, I think they created some good albums during the Victor-era, especially revisiting some of them now. For exemple, I love M.E.R.R.Y. and I think it's criminally underrated among the western fanbase. And, Beautiful Freaks, while uneven (and, truthfully, not very good) had some really, really great MERRY moments, so yeah, they recovered.

I think they have complete freedom to do whatever the hell they want now, and also a level of maturity that makes sure that, since 2014 with NOnsenSe MARkeT, they are able to combine all the aspects of their catalog and create some cool things. 平日の女 is kinda like that, it has the retro-feel and モダンギャルド-ness that I love, but with their current production values (that I'm not really a fan, to be honest, ネロ sounds like crap and 健一 and 結生 sound too fuzzy. But that might be a stylistic choice, albeit a poor one). All in all, I'm happy that MERRY seems to be in such a good place and I'm really looking forward to their new album next year. (or maybe even THIS year, who knows... there's still time!) It just makes me glad being a fan.

Do caralho.

I'm guessing only a fraction of the audience showed up for the early bands though, at least on that other big vk festival event in 2011 (?) Where they did invite swede-kei band seremedy, they played to a mostly empty arena. Still better than their average show for sure though in terms of exposure.

    Pretty much.

グリーヴァplayed right after ASH DA HERO (2nd band of the day) and FEST VAINQUEUR, who has quite a loyal fan base. Lots of girls were there to see them.

now, グリーヴァ didn't play to 100,000 people, but at the very least there were 1500 people in front of the smaller stages when they came on. Plus, everybody who was at the main stage heard them very clearly.

  11. I was there and had the time of my liiiife (and I owe it all to YOSHIKI apparently).

LUNA SEA is the greatest band on earth. GLAY is awesome. X was X, with all its flaws and problems it still is a good live band. 清春 Was probably the worst show in the entire thing.  Dude stunk up the place in a "Neil Diamond at the Last Waltz" proportion. Not even忘却の空 could save his ass.

  12. 依存 jams. What a delicious song. Shades of vintage メリー and the acoustic intro reminds me a little bit of

Not a big fan of カミソリ, though. Not bad, but doesn't impress me, except for that meaty mid-song riff and the solo. Really dig that part.

I feel that ザアザア needs to take a little break before releasing more stuff.  Take your time, kids!
