Ever watch someone skilled at their profession? They make it all look so easy because they've mastered their craft, but they hide the years of work they put into their craft to get to that point. To me, that's why people rate limit themselves and others when it comes to skill, especially life skills.

It's a fact that people pick up on certain talents faster than others. I firmly believe that there is something everyone is good at; it could be flipping burgers or clicking heads in video games. Sometimes it takes time and experience to figure that out. I know there are some things I will never be good at unless I put time into it, like basketball or high level math. I know there are some things I've gotten *better* at because I put the time in, like learning guitar or playing shooters.

Our culture comes to expect that people should just pick up on all things as quickly as a savant does, and people become discouraged or discourage others when they cannot meet those expectations immediately. It's a nasty outgrowth of consumer culture where what we are consuming is talent. We tie talents to worth of self and others.

In this way, you are still correct. The only way to be a dad is to do it. But I also believe some people are not fit to be parents. The complaining about baby daddy shit is just a way to distance herself from what she considers a bad decision, and by robbing him of a critical talent (being a capable father) she is robbing him of his character and worth. Except literally everybody sees through that shit nowadays, because baby daddies don't come outta nowhere. If she was forced to crack a smile, that's because you pierced the veil in one swift move. Well done.

Zeus reacted to suji in Cinema Bizarre Key/Vo.Luminor has passed away
It has been announced by guitarist Yu that keyboardist/backing vocalist Luminor, formerly of German band Cinema Bizarre from 2005-2008, has passed away on April 12. He was one of the founding members of the band, and he had later departed due to health issues.

Luminor's passing was first brought up last week, without official confirmation, so understandably it was thought to be a rumor - even by his former bandmates, like Strify and Yu who had put up official statements due to the barrage of comments on their social media. It doesn't help that the fanbase - even 10 years on after their disbandment which is fucking sad btw - likes to spread rumors and speculate the cause of death, which I won't get into further.

As everyone else stanned Seremedy or Tokio Hotel back in the day, Cinema Bizarre was a band that was close to my heart as they were one of my faves back in middle school. I can never forget Luminor's uniquely smooth deep voice that blended well with Strify's, and he made Cinema Bizarre for me imo; they were never the same after he left. As someone who wanted to believe it was all a hoax, the fact that this is actually true just fucking sucks. May he rest in peace.

    Hi everyone!

I used be a huge visual kai fan yeeears ago (mostly angura and guniw tools&co tbh) and I posted somewhat regularly in here

Then my interest slowly fizzled out and I stopped following the scene around 5+ years ago.

Now I don't really know how and why, but a few days ago I ended up listening to some of the very few angura songs i have left in my laptop and I was like whoaaaaa!!!!! and I fell for it all over again (if you're wondering it was 彼岸空 by 千(cen) who did it, pls give me more stuff by them cause that's the only song i have lol)

The timing of this is somehow unfortunate as I moved across the planet about one year ago and I left most of my music collection back home. I'm trying to slowly build back what I used to have but most of the blogs/links are dead so I apologize in advance for bumping 7+ y.o. topics asking for reuploads lol

Outside of the angura bois I also don't mind some good ol' VK as long as it's, like, good lol so please update me on what I missed in the past 5+ years!

    Cheers!

I've had time to digest the album and I echo the sentiments of others in this thread. Okay, kinda forgettable, definitely not what I thought their second album was going to be. In many ways it is underwhelming and the lack of bass does a lot to make the songs feel lifeless. Bass is what makes music feel alive! I'll keep trying to like this album but it's probably not going to happen. A lot of my discontent comes from the fact that we had to lose the best deathcore band in the scene to get this, so even if it was good that truth still stings a bit. Hearing Sho approaching what sounds like a scream or a yell and then backing off is such a ball buster

And the worst part is that I know Retsu is a competent composer, so I don't know what happened.

last.fm was never the website to go for these things. I believe most people just used it to scrobble their music and discover new things.

back then I used to search for mp3 and videos using p2p programs like kazaa, and later on soulseek and occasionally winmx. that was what, between 2003-2006? there were a few websites with info, scans and downloads too, but the p2p scene was where it was at.

that was before livejournal communities became popular and everyone moved on to those. there were plenty of communities for magazine scans, downloads and specific ones for every band imaginable. at the same time, a little tracker called tonberry torrents also gained traction until it ended in 2007? 2008? and became a forum called tainted world, which is where we are now

Zeus got a reaction from SHOKI in Copy/Paste: Six Similar J-Rock Songs
Ever listen to a song and think to yourself that you've heard that melody somewhere before, but you can never place it? Alternatively, have you ever gotten into or read an argument with someone who says "x band copied y melody from z band"? I'm sure all of us have been there at one point and this is a topic that personally interests me. I like knowing where my artists source their inspiration from, and where their inspirations got their inspiration from, etc., because I believe that no idea is original but the interpretation can be. The subjectivity in how different artists hear and play back certain melodies is what makes music beautiful!

...and then there are times when bands just steal melodies and put no effort into it.

Today we take a look at six songs that can go either way. I provide examples,  where I think their origins stem from, and my final judgement. Sometimes it's hero worship. Sometimes it's laziness. Sometimes I just don't know. A lot of this was sourced from the "Inspirations..." thread I started a few years ago, but I also did a bit of legwork the last few months to cobble together my own examples. If you see a track here you pointed out somewhere before, odds are you helped me make this list!

Remember, these are only my opinions and based off what I can hear between two songs. I am not classically trained in music theory and I'm going purely by ear. You won't see me drop music theory knowledge anywhere in this post.

Ya know, as a kid, my parents kept us away from the church and religion in general. It wasn't forbidden or anything...it was just something they practice and didn't push onto my siblings and I. My parents were kinda bohemian in the sense that they wanted us to make up our own minds. So, I honestly never thought much of it growing up, but I didn't realize how much of a blessing that was until these past few years. I'm really thankful to have not been indoctrinated into all of that...

But it's interesting because as a kid, I grew up hearing and listening to Outkast and Goodie Mob...and although I listened to other hip hop, there was always something special about these 2 groups to me. Not just because I'm from the same city as them and can relate/connect to them on a lot of levels...but their music always managed to "ground" me, even into my adult years as my taste expanded exponentially. Their music just always had a certain gravity to it....and outside of Andre3000 and Cee-Lo, the rest of Outkast and Goodie Mob weren't incredibly lyrical...but they were raw, and their words still had depth and weight to them.

...so I recently became aware that one of my favorite members of Goodie Mob subscribes to the same spiritual path that has been revealed to me, and things make a lot more sense now. There are definitely no coincidences... but tot only do I understand more of what his lyrics meant from back in the day, but I also understand why I was so drawn to their music now. The spirit of truth...The spirit of wisdom...these have always been beckoning.

Goodie Mob's first album being called "soul food", also makes a lot more sense now too. These guys' music was basically my "church" growing up.

Zeus got a reaction from AwesomeNyappy in Visual kei is dead! (at least on youtube)
Here's a question for you: why film a promotional video if you aren't using it to promote music?
The answer is, there is none! To expect people to buy the promotional video to see it defeats the purpose of it's design, which is to promote your music. You aren't supposed to be able to directly make money off of the PV. The money you put into the video either comes out of your budget for the album or is something you recoup when you make sales. It's called the cost of doing business. Sometimes it's necessary to spend money to make more money. If you do make money off of the PV, that's just a bonus.
That's why visual kei bands seem to run into so many monetary issues. They spend a lot of money up front to get their costumes, photo shoots, albums recorded, etc. and then expect fans to pay up front for everything. Here, pay up front for this ticket to get this live distributed song which didn't cost us a fraction of the cost we're charging you to get it! Here, pay for this promotional video so you can see the song that we're going to make you buy twice so you can get all of the music. Also, buy both editions and get some meaningless poster bonus too! But you have to buy them from Like An Edison only to get the deal! Like shit, I get that you need to recoup your losses but there are better ways to do it. I'll name a few below.
Why don't Japanese visual kei bands run an official YouTube channel where they can place all of their PV's (or hell, all of their music if they wanted), and some live performances and just make you sit through an ad first? That's extra money that doesn't cost them too much work to get. Why don't really indies independent Japanese visual kei bands put their releases on Bandcamp or iTunes and set a minimum price? There are lots of ways they can cut out the middleman and save themselves some serious cash, but they don't.
But yet it's expected that we should just shell out $40 for the music? It's 2014 music doesn't work that way anymore bb.
