  1. I just realised that Metis Gretel and Devil Kitty probably used the same drum machines. The cymbals are almost exactly the same, especially the China-cymbal

  2. I don't often watch Chinese Drama, but one of the things I always found stupid about it was those dramas where they pit a "chinese orchestra" against a western style one.

Now, I can see why they'd be compared... if only actual traditional Chinese music was being compared. But rather, they use "Chinese Orchestra", which is basically western music played on Chinese instruments modified to sound "pretty". So really, you're not comparing two vastly musical styles, you're comparing the same style played on marginally different instruments.

Of course, what would be cool is if they compared real traditional Chinese music, like Hebei Bangzi, to their western equivalents, but no, real traditional Chinese music is too shrill and not "pretty" enough for the modern bourgeois Chinese person.

Like, why not pit this kind of music against say, Italian Opera? That would make for a very unique musical competition plot. Especially since Hebei Bangzi is pretty representative of the music that was actually popular in old China. It's not for the feint of heart though. No pretty sounding Erhus or Guzhengs here.

  3. Burmese Hsaing-waing music is like if you took Thai piphat but made it progressive and technical. It's full of tempo changes and weird time signatures.

  4. Does anyone know what Aika ex. Cuartet, Black:List and Triggah is doing these days? Is he still an associate of Tomozo's label or has he fully retired from anything music related?

  5. Heavens Dust is just Kiryu for Kyles. I mean, holy fuck this screams monster energy drink and punching a wall

Guitars' tone sounds dirty in a really bad way, and vocals very weak. Overall composition is in a teen-Slipknot-fan level. Horrible. Video seems cool, though.

The cherry on the top is that these guys actually did a cover of Lil Wayne out of all people once.

And they have gotten political on multiple songs

  6. Just got back from the doctor, and its official. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

To add to your last point, it definitely takes a huge weight off of your shoulders when you have a clearer picture of what's going on in your body.

I'm not sure if you were diagnosed with the vascular type of EDS (vEDS), but regardless, don't overlook the continued advances of EDS research and treatment methods. As long as you're mindful with what you have and keep a positive mindset, that's really the best you can do.

EDS doesn't define you, but maybe vk bandomen do =P.

@reminiscing2004 Probably a mix of both lol.

  8. I'd like to see someone who knows a lot about music explain what's going on musically that makes Kote-Kei sound like it does. The commonly used chord progressions, keys, tempos, techniques, etc.

That would be really interesting and insightful to see.

      StriderSubzero

I really wanted to do this but I don't think I'm wholly qualified or knowledgeable enough. I agree it would be very interesting and cool

  9. In an alternate universe, Deadly Sanctuary songs are actually part of DEViL KiTTY's discography and they sound way fucking better because Yuuga's singing them instead of Yayoi's nasally ass.

  10. I'm considering buying Devil Kitty's first album, but I have a question for those that own it: Does it come with a lyric booklet? I'm curious because I've seen some for sale that have none, and I'm kinda in the dark lol

  11. I wish it was easy to remove vocals from a song. There are so many songs I like the vocal track of, but don't care for the instrumentals and just wanna redo the instrumentals

    1. Aferni

      Aferni

Essentially to do so youd need the program file before its converted into a audio format

    2. Manabu

      Manabu

I believe Audacity has a built in vocal remover/isolator which has varying results, mess with the levels and some filters and you can get a decent vocal only/band only track.

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@Manabu Oh I've tried that and it barely works with the songs I want to redo lol.

  12. Anyone else having issues with Niconico's audio? No sound is playing on any video

  13. Great, someone bought that Devil Kitty VHS I was waiting to get. Looks like I'm never seeing those PVs ever, because the only other ones for sale don't come with a DVD rip, and one of them is like 50 dollars.

  14. Gulu Gulu is having a Niconico live right now!

Hi, did you happen to record it? I'd love to see it 😍

  15. I just remembered this one time, in Nashville, I went to a Mellow Mushroom Pizza where they had live music, and this country band decided to just start covering Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg songs... but still singing like a country singer with the heaviest redneck accent you've ever heard.

Like... stop. Just rap the parts normally. Or just stay away from covering 90's Hip Hop if you're gonna use that accent. A UGK song, or Three Six Mafia song would be WAY more appropriate for that kind of accent... but not Snoop Dogg.

But really, if you're gonna do everything with such a heavy hick accent, and bro-country sounding compositions... you might just not wanna touch Hip Hop at all

  16. I found this rare pic of 2002 Yuuga with a happy birthday message on a really old blog lmao. This screams early 2000's internet

  17. What was with Visual Kei's obsession with pinch harmonics between 1998 and 2004, and what god damn idiot was the one who decided to stop using them? lmao

@saiko My favourite examples would be Schwein no Isu and Zan by Dir en Grey, Kuse by Mist of Rouge, and Schizophrenia by Chateau la Tour

  18. Anyone remember that dick who is staying over at my partner's place that I made a post about? Yeah he decided to make fun of my singing and the fact a lot of my music has harsh vocals and told me I'm horrible.

Like, bitch, that's why I'm fucking practicing, so I can fucking get better. No one is a fucking vocal wizard over night.

  19. My partner is playing Dying Light and it's supposed to take place in Turkey, but it's such a bad representation of it that I came up with this reaching explanation: It's a highly gentrified part of Turkey that was taken over by Arabs, Russians and Americans so people have Arabic names, speak English with Russian accents, and the buildings and businesses are in English.

Seriously though, what part of Turkey looks like a Brazillian favela?

  20. Whenever singing along to Vkei songs, does anyone else just make up the lyrics as you go along? Because that's generally what I do. I just sing whatever it sounds like they're singing because I'm just doing it for fun lol

      Karma’s Hat

oh man when I've recorded something that we've sung when drunk or something and listen to it the next day. you can even spot the moment when someone loses confidence in the lyrics and starts winging it with about 50% of the volume previously

    2. zombieparadise

      zombieparadise

I don't think I've ever known the lyrics to a full Japanese song and I have over 10 years of VK experience. I 'sing along great' in the car, but when it comes to Karaoke, I get totally busted XD

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Whenever I do Karaoke with my friends, 90% of the time, I'm just winging it. I'm better at imitating the vocal style than I am at guessing lyrics though lmao

  21. Why the hell did teenage me buy into the dumbass rumor that Mahiro from Kiryu was a middle schooler in Curse and MADARA? What pre-teen lets Yuuga write him a song themed around Nakadashi (I don't think I should have to explain what that is lmao)

Sounds more reasonable than our insane timeline attempt! I think some of those bands were active within the same year. My original concern was how long he can stay on stage with his eye condition. It's degenerative, and said to blind him by 40. Haven't heard any recent updates.

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

From what I'm guessing, he's just performing as much as he can until he can't anymore, and honestly, I don't blame him. I just hope potential blindness doesn't stop him from pursuing his passion any further, as blind musicians were historically very important to the development of music (especially traditional Japanese music)

I don't think it will. Judging by his message and intent...I mean he's got good people around him. Mostly I've just heard he knocks over microphones or gets lost when the lights dim, nothing too bad. I'm sure they'll accommodate for it with his following and status being so high.

  22. Does anyone know the story behind these early Inugami Circus Dan's TV performances? They seem to be from way before they released anything

    1. saiko

      saiko

Wow, did they ever had TV attention?

    2. Tokage

      Tokage

@saiko I'm pretty sure they've even been on Utaban at some point - the same variety show that's featured artists like Gackt and Morning Musume in the past lol - think it was around 2003 when they kinda seemed to have 'peaked' (around the time the Kami no Inu album came out)

As for these videos - they must be from some of their veeeery early days. In one of them they show a picture at the end that looks like some kinda album/single cover but I don't recognize it. Thought it could mb be their first 'official' ep from '97 but the cover's entirely different

  23. So I tried DEZERT's new album, and I don't really plan to go back to it. I think it's a small step in the right direction, but it still doesn't hold up compared to their first two albums.

For one, I think the metal songs are holding back way too much on what they could be. There are no harsh vocals, for one, and while I get that not every metal song needs harsh vocals, these songs could definitely benefit from some screaming parts.

As well, Chiaki's voice just sounds weird. IDK if he just sounds like that now, or if they increased the throat-length setting on the Autotune in order to make him sound "manlier".

IDK what's holding them back, whether it be Danger Crue, or Chiaki himself. Either way, I like it better than TODAY, but I also think it could be much better.

At least those are my opinions, all I can do is hope the next album is better

    1. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

I do like how funky some of the songs are though. I think if DEZERT combined older sounding songs with newer sounding songs on one of their albums, they could benefit from satisfying both sides of their fanbase, without having to sacrifice anything.

      Ada Suilen

Yeah the first albums were top-notch for sure! But I found to appreciate Black Hole more than expected, it appeared definitely more solid than Today, which was good too.

  25. I forgot how bad a lot of the Hip Hop from between 2007 and 2011 was. Specifically anything relating to Lil Wayne, Drake or Nicki Minaj. As a 7 to 11 year old, hearing it on the radio, it just annoyed me a little. As an adult who can actually comprehend the lyrical content, the beats, etc., it's even worse now.
