Status Updates posted by Himeaimichu

  1. Status made here by request of @saishuu. Btw, Happy Birthday.

  2. Sutari (ex. La cen Zhow) just made a new Dir en Grey session band (or Copy band as he calls it) called Dorian Gray. I'm ded

  3. Tbh, Vkei bands should do collaborations with eachother more often. Like, yeah, those bands are close, but why not make a song together?

  4. That moment I actually found a handful of Baroque songs I like... ..but my favorite happens to be the one they released only on VINYL in 2002.

    1. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

And I get that today, vinyl is cool again, but imagine releasing a vinyl in 2002.

As well, ironically, the song isn't one of their jazzier ones but is one of their few metal ones. Either way its fire and I wish rips without crackling existed

  5. That moment when you like both versions of Kagrra's "Kotodama", so you combine the two, using the 2nd version as the intro to the original xD

  6. That really embarassing moment when you realise you accidentally posted in the wrong section and anxiety just starts going crazy

I understand completely how you're feeling, but it's not a big deal once you've been here as long as I have xD it happens more often than you think, so don't think you did anything bad xD

Just let us mods know when you've made a mistake! It's no problem at all, it happens to everyone.

  7. The frontman for Tengger Cavalry passed away. May his soul return to Tengri.

  8. The only reason I consider Kuroyuri to Kage to be EroguroKei is because they're actually really inspired by Eroguro artists such as Suehiro Mario, and Edogawa Rampo. Also, they're influenced by Caligari and Inugami Circus Dan. However, I will say the term is often overused, and shouldn't refer to just any macabre band. Only ones actually influenced by Eroguro art

      Elazmus

I didn't know this about Gichigichi tbh apart from the subject matter I had no idea it was a reference! That's cool considering it was one of my favorites from their album - kind of still one at this time lol!

I'm really reminded of the internet a few years ago seeing anyone who talked about visual kei tried to identify sub genres unnecessarily XD

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Yeah, I remember that used to be big xD. I only ever use subgenres as a convenient way of classifying similar bands. Really though, it's all Vkei, and that's all it really is

you should change your name to Vkeipedia

  9. The person who engineered Memento Mori's stuff, and the person who produced Kuroyuri to Kage's last single, are both named Sakura. I wonder if they're the same person. I originally thought the latter was Sakura from Gibkiy Gibkiy Gibkiy, but now I wonder

  10. The riff to the new Kiryu song reminds me of Ookami Shounen by Mi'ze:lia (one of Mitsuki and Takemasa's earliest bands)

    1. Peace Heavy mk II

      Peace Heavy mk II

They're probably getting to the point where they need to subtly recycle things to keep up with their release schedule

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@Peace Heavy mk II Yeah, I noticed their stuff has been kind of a sample-fest lately. Muku was practically just them reusing the bridge to Meikyou Shisui to somehow connect to the chorus of Oboro.

  11. There are Vkei bands named D, S, and M. Now all we need is one named B and we'd have a fetish on our hands

  12. There needs to be more songs like "Sonzai" by Jakura. The mix of old school heavy metal (pre-NWOBHM metal, that is) with elements of general 90's Vkei.

    1. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

BTW, before anyone tries to cringe, I know the song was released in 2002. I'm just saying it sounds like old school Metal mixed with 90's Vkei

  13. They should feed an AI song-writing program a bunch of Visual Kei songs of each type, and see if it can come up with the ultimate songs.

@Zeus Oh wow, that's interesting. Do tell more!

      1. creating an AI to build music requires teaching an AI about music and music theory or else you're going to have an AI that smashes random notes together. that means having a solid understanding of major and minor chords, harmonic scales, time signatures, etc. and then being able to program it so that the AI understands it as well.

      2. it is easiest to teach AI music thru monophonic melody. most visual kei songs (most songs actually) are polyphonic. that means many melodies at once. simply giving AI an MP3 is not going to work because it's not going to understand how to separate frequencies and instruments. what i worked on accepted MIDI files as input, but as it would turn out...

      3. turning Mp3 into MIDI is not easy either! try one for yourself. the resulting MIDI is a discordant mess. this is because the conversion process loses a lot of information, and this is the information we want to teach our AI!

      4. need a good training set of data to begin "teaching" the AI about music. you will need hundreds of samples to get started. i used Bach since i had a training set already available to me. this would have to be replaced with visual kei melodies to achieve the desired effect.

there are a few more but that's the issues i had.

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Ah. Yeah, the process seems kinda complex, though really intriguing. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  14. Twitter's new PC layout is ugly AF

  15. Uggh. Cringing at my old comments on Wagakki Band videos. I may still strongly not like them, but gah I look so closed minded. Just.. *Cringes and deletes comments*

      Live and learn :)

  16. Under... by Kuroyume really reminds me of Spellbound by Sioxusie and the Banshees. Probably because of the aggressive use of acoustic guitars

  17. Unpopular opinion: Saver Tiger, Mephistopheles, D'erlanger, and Dead End are just as important as, if not more important than X Japan.
I mean, Saver Tiger formed before X, didn't they?

    1. Seimeisen

      Seimeisen

I don't give a single fuck about Ekksu Jyapan

And I roll my eyes every time I read an interview and someone says they're "inspired by X"

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@orange~ Saver Tiger actually formed in 1980 xD

But I think Vkei really turned away from its original path when Buck Tick and Kuroyume came onto the scene. I mean, before that, it was mostly an offshoot from the Japanese Thrash Metal, Hardcore Punk and Speed Metal scene, but then you have Buck Tick with this Gothic sound, and Kuroyume combining the sounds. I think it's funny how in the west, Thrash Metal was considered a response to Glam when in Japan, bands like Aion combined the two.

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@SeimeisenI care about X, but I care about the other early bands just as much.

Just like how I care about Dir En Grey, but I also care about La'Mule just as much because they were just as influential, if not more.

I mean, if you're popular enough in the indie scene for bands to copy you even before you even make enough records, that says something xD

  18. Vexent basically did a Metal cover of "Chain Hang Low" from Jibbs. This is the best thing ever

  19. Visual Kei Musicians: *does absolutely nothing*
Some dude who only chugs Metallica riffs in his bedroom on a line 6 spider amp: "unlike you f*gs with your fancy lipstick, I play REAL music, and I come from when you had to be able to play Erruption at 50000 bpm in order to make it! I only listen to musicians with absolutely no fashion sense hygiene. If you so much as brush your hair, you're a gay f*g who plays pseudo metal. I care about the music not the looks!"

      psychonnect_rozen

      Ah I see.

Yeah, it’s like they think “x ruins metal” but when you think about it, VK is pretty niche in terms of like popularity. Most metal fans who act like this probably are pretty close minded

I mean, I think men look good with makeup lol.

It’s funny when people say that when in reality VK was partially inspired by 80s hair metal.

I hate metal elitists sometimes. Hell, I hate being part of the metal community to begin with

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

My partner is involved with the prog metal community, and I gotta say, they're surprisingly pretty open minded to Vkei. Especially compared to the boomers/wannabe boomers. I'd say try out the prog community, but they'd bombard you with technical musical terms that most orchestra players haven't even heard lol. The Djent community is also open minded to Vkei, as I've noticed there is a lot who are finding out about Deviloof and Nokubura, and are liking it. There is also considerable overlap between prog fans and Djent fans lol.

I think the main difference is that prog and Djent fans try out new music and are in general open minded, while metal boomers still listen to the same stuff they were as a child.

    3. psychonnect_rozen

      psychonnect_rozen

Oh no the prog community is fantastic, especially when it comes to Diru.

But yeah, metal boomers are the fucking worst. If your gonna complain about how metal sucks nowadays, then your probably a miserable boring person lol

  20. Wait, is that a Shamisen I am hearing in Madeth Gray'll's "Kuroshichou no Hanataba"? There is one part where it oddly sounds like a Shamisen is playing

  21. Was a full PV ever released for GossiP's "Aa, Chuunigakusei", or just a PV spot?

    1. IGM_Oficial

      IGM_Oficial

      Just a PV spot.

  22. Was anyone able to snag the videos of Devil Kitty's one night revival in 2009 from Youtube before they were taken down?

    1. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

I'm pretty sure if I find myself in Japan, I could just go to the bar Yuuga frequents and maybe if I feed into his narcissism enough, he'll give me Devil Kitty rarez lmao

    2. Axius

      Axius

      That would be pretty funny

  23. Was Karma drunk during AvelCain's last lives? It seems as if the concerts went on, he got progressively more wasted xD

      emmny

      nope, just talented .

  24. We have French, German and British themed Kote Kei bands... but we don't have a Russian one? I mean, we have Vkei bands that have taken Soviet themes, but it'd be cool to see a Vkei band take a proper Russian aesthetic.
