nullmoon reacted to StriderSubzero in #108: DIR EN GREY - VESTIGE OF SCRATCHES
Thank you all for the fascinating history on the lyrics and taboos. First I've heard of any of this.
About OP's review though, I simply cannot understand why so many people hate "audrey" so much. That's one of my favorite DEG songs.

"ryouri" means "cooking" xD
You basically asked if the cooking is alright

I think early An Cafe and aicle are more linked to oshare, buy you may be right, things were definitely blurry enough.
Lolita23q's Suiren no Heya and ayabie's Saishuu Hentai Page/Gothic Party definitely shows a clearer picture, imo

I was just lazy when I incorporated and Zero and Tefutefu into the proper album. I tacked and Zero as the intro and Teflonteflon before The inferno so it balances out the whole two song titles in English and two song titles in Kanji setup.

I’ve always been puzzled by those sentiments because if you’re a band that writes, promotes, releases, and tours music — your entire purpose is to maximize how many people are buying your products and for how much. These guys don’t do it for free, they expect that you’ll give them money in return for whatever they’re selling and promoting.
To criticize ANYTHING as being a “cash grab” in popular music just seems weird to me because that’s the whole point.

Rinkaku is mostly just a slightly different mix. More low end, and Shinya’s toms sound less digital than the single version.
The ending is so fucking gorgeous it hurts.

Pink Killer is totally and utterly horrendous. I actively avoid it because of how aurally offensive it is.

Uunnggh I LOVE Phenomenon, I'd marry to an album (or mini-album) in the same line musically

It still needs to be tweaked. I was going for a combination of Arche at Budokan 2016.02.06 and just trying to treat it as an old school LP with a side a and side b, with and zero being the split. I also liked the idea of starting things off with one of the more somber tracks and ending with a positive one.
Its still kind of a mess, but DEG never really adhering to one style makes it difficult to get a good flow.

Also Rinkaku, pay attention to the single ver. and the album ver.

Myaku and [KR]Cube have extended intros/outros
Child Prey's Vulgar Version has different EQ levels for guitars and Kyo screams "The reasons why one can't laugh..." part instead of speaking through walkie-talkie/megaphone filtering (single version)
Embryo's single version has different lyrics
Ryoujoku no Ame's single version feels much more one take-ier, has WtD mixing enabled and Kyo falsettoing during the climax part instead of mumbling (TMOAB version)
Lotus' single version is much muddier and does not push Toshiya to the front.

Embryo has different lyrics and Ryoujoku no Ame has re-recorded vocals. Those are the first two I think of aside from what you already mentioned.
I actually prefer Lotus’ single version. It has better dynamics I think.

I always got Seinfeld transition vibes from it. I really liked my first listen-through of MOO but that just took me out of it.
I always tweak the tracklists of their albums and throw in single versions or B-sides. Generally I try to respect the artist's intent when it comes to album sequence, but I don't think DEG even has an intent.
-
nullmoon reacted to Saishu in Dir en grey
The problem is with the track sequencing, which is another issue DEG has. Very rarely do their albums flow well from track to track. The problem with DSS is Different Sense shouldn’t have followed Beelezebub; it’s too different of a mood shift for it to work, so they slapped on that interlude that sounds like Shinya and Toshiya tumbled down the stairs together.
I mean, shit, why is Clever Sleazoid in between Namamekashiki and Ware, Yami Tote on Vestige? That’s ridiculous. Arche is a mess too, especially the latter half.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but they used several mixing engineers for this, not one. And I refuse to believe no one thinks the now-audible bass and drums in the Vulgar and WtD tracks is an improvement. Not all the remastering worked well, but then I think some of this stuff couldn’t be saved to begin with (Kisou, Marrow).

For some reason, I don't own a physical copy of VULGAR, so this would please me.
For some other reason, I own two copies of Withering to death. (cardboard 1st press and black English version).
No, I don't know, either.

Just listened to the new .. "album" .. i guess. That shit made my head hurt a lot. I mean... if you wanna cash cow the shit out of this band, at least give them something listenable.. those remasters are of the worst kind I ever heard... and OH Yeah, this is like the first time I listened to the remake of a remake of a song, or even the remake of a pre-remake. Awesome right? My ears are puking but oh well .. some die hard fans will come all over this just because there's DIR EN GREY on it.
At least they kept the cover authentic. This really sounds like a CD with ALOT of scratches.
I'm out. VOS sucks. 0 points.

nullmoon reacted to Crube in Dir en grey
So, did the band completely forget they redid undecided or they didn't add it to the expanded and remastered version of UROBOROS because the song title wasn't all in caps mode?
-
nullmoon reacted to Seimeisen in #108: DIR EN GREY - VESTIGE OF SCRATCHES
YES 👏 FUCKING 👏 PLEASE!! Even if they were just released individually, I'd pay for a re-release of VULGAR and Withering. Those VESTIGE remasters were great!
-
nullmoon reacted to Seimeisen in Dir en grey
Either the fans that actually voted have considerably poor taste, or the band threw out a few votes. I like both songs, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd choose 陵辱の雨.
I'm trying to remember why I didn't vote. Did I not know about it until after the polls closed? Did I just not give a shit? 'cause I'm really wishing I did vote. If I did, I'd have more of a right to bitch about the song selection.
DOZING GREEN and CLEVER SLEAZOID should have swapped places on the tracklist. Not only is it more chronological (especially since SLEAZOID is the single version, released 6 months after Wtd.), but it flows better. I mean, not that tracklist flow mattered in the slightest here... I'm done ranting for the 432,000th time. Disc 3 is a joke. I'm shutting up now.
