  1. Some really quick thoughts on tracks that I liked:

    Spoiler

たぶんわたしがゆうれいだったら (Tabun watashi ga yuureidattara)" by Her Ghost Friend
The ambient nature worked well in countering the sugariness of the vocals. I can dig it.

    "supercell" by Cö shu Nie

Some solid female fronted pop rock, it's been a while sinc eI have gotten anything good on this front, so I will check them out for sure.

"愛はなけなし (What Little Love)" by THE NOVEMBERS

The Novembers are very hit and miss for me, and while I am not a fan of the chorus, I like the song on the whole.

"頭蓋、紛い (zugai, magai)" by gibkiy gibkiy gibkiy

    Nagoya kei goodness :)

    "EVIDENCE" by lynch.

While I still enjoy it, this song feels like they just took several other lynch songs and put them in the spin cycle together. I swear to god I had already heard this track before the first time I spun it.

"The Love From a Dead Orchestra" by Versailles

Oh shit, I didn't know there was a rerecording of the best Versailles song!

After listening to it, I don't really know if this is an improvement. The recording just found overly airy and hollow. The Violins sound like shit and the guitars feel like they are a bit too clean now. Like my god the violins sound bad - they are so shrill they don't even remotely sound real. I honestly can't see myself spinning this over the original.

    "星雲ヒッチハイク (seiun hitch-hike)" by TAMTAM

    TAMTAM's new album is great.

"see through sway in you" by 別野加奈 (Kana Wakareno)

I got a chill while listening to this.

"六月ノ雨ニ討タレテ (rokugatsu no ame ni utarete)" by alt of the society

I downloaded this album but have yet to give it a listen. This certainly has it pushed up on my list.

    "滅菌、消毒、絆創膏。(mekkin, shoudoku, bansoukou.)" by Chanty

I haven't really listened to Chanty. This has me wanting to change that.

    "Trigger" by MUCC

Man, I feel like it has been a WHILE sinc eI liked a new Mucc song. This is a pleasant surprise.

  2. Glad to know I'm not the only one that felt this way. This release just felt wholly underwhelming. I honestly thought that Death in Reverse as a standalone functioned single worked better than this entire album. Requiem for Hell (the song) just felt so entirely long winded and I'm not sure the riff they build off of in the climax is even all that great. That said, I would love if they piled on more distortion so that the song felt more heavy than it actually does. I just felt like they were trying to capture this whole swirling in to chaos vibe and the overall sound just wasn't dense or chaotic enough.  ( would have loved for them to pull some of the energy from the closing track off of Rays of Darkness.

Ely's Heartbeat and The Last Scene are both overall very pretty songs, and I honestly enjoy them, but they are rather forgettable.

I 100% agree with your statement that Mono's formula has grown stale. I don't think anyone can dispute that they can still create very pretty music, but we want it to be interesting as well. I can see myself spinning this track as background music from time to time, but that is probably it.

  3. I've only check out one of pg.lost's albums, but I dug it. I'll have to try their new one.

Been a fan of pg.lost for years now, and I'll be seeing them live with Alcest and Mono at the end of next month. Gonna be an evening to remember for sure.

Now that sounds like a hell of a show! Alcest's Kodama is in the running to be one of my top albums of the year.

also new season looks like shit. the only thing i'm kinda excited about is Drifters. Kouta Hirano ma mang <3

and maybe that Occult;Shit might turn out to be worth checking.

well at least i still have to check Mob Psycho 100 and 91 Days ^__^

Pretty much my exact feelings lol. I just worry about Drifters since we all know what happened last time Kouta's manga was translated to anime form before he was finished.
The Great Passage is possibly the only other show that has my interest...that said, it it might be a balancing act with the maturity that I am hoping it has and also it not being boring lol.

I saw a visual kei panel at ACen 2013 that Ito (I believe it was Ito) was hosting.  Didn't get around to actually checking the site out until 2014 because laziness reasons.

    Yup, that was me! :D
I'm glad that it you ended up making it to the site though, even if it was a year afterwards lol.

Ito's panel at ACen is litterally the only reason why I go anymore.

In 2013 he was babbling on about how great it was, and I joined to see what all the fuss was about.

    He was right lol

I'm glad I can still give you a reason to go LOL. Seriously though, I still hope you have fun outside of just my panel. I will be submitting my panel request for 2017 this weekend.

Yeah, I haven't been to ACen since 2014 myself.  I probably won't be attending anymore, as I'm too busy and getting a little older.  It was fun while it lasted though. :D

Maybe the kid in me has never died, but I still love going. Acen is one of my most enjoyable weekends of the year...though a huge part of that is because I've gotten in to cosplay photography in a big way.

  6. Just finished Re:Zero, Space Patrol Luluco, and Flying Witch.

Re:Zero was a fucking mess. I'm shocked I managed to get through it all. I could rant for probably a solid hour as to why I think this show is bad, but I will spare you all. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it.

Luluco was a fun in a brainless sense. Honestly, I think the gorgeous animation is what kept me around.

Flying Witch was fairly boring. I had been watching this one with my fiancee for the first few episodes, but I downgraded it to a before bed show because it helped put me in a sleepy mood. Literally nothing happens in this show. Another one that I am shocked I finished, but for very different reasons that Re:zero.

I met the original owner of the Tainted World site. I think his username was Spike720 or something. But ya, he went to the same college as I did and was introduced to him by an old friend of mine. After a few meetups, he told me about the site, so I went in and stuck around. :)

    Close, Spike760 lol

  8. Bummed I am just seeing this thread now. I -really- like your style. The varying thickness of the lines are just lovely and there is an impressionistic flavor to it that just clicks for me. Makes me want to commision something from you.
