Well, I'm just hoping that they will release more of remastered albums in the future.

While this sounds great on paper, I'm very skeptical about how they might be executed as most of their remastering efforts have either been negligible or took something away from the original mix. I did, however, think Vestige of Scratches was an overall good remastering of older tracks and would be totally on board for a similar sound. Songs like "Child Prey" hit so much harder and having a Vulgar remaster with VOS execution would be amazing.

I'm doing much better now. I think I was just going through a moment. Also, I think age has to do with part of it. I'm on the older side and not finding someone has made me anxious about it. But I'm realizing more and more it's not uncommon for people my age (or even older) to not have found someone yet. And I'm coming to terms with that.

And the person I had an interest in, I've since lost my interest in them romantically. For me I think amongst friends that kind of relationship should come naturally. In this case it felt very one sided so I got the sense she wasn't into me at all that way. I'm also all about getting to the point and hate love games. But I also have to feel a connection with the other friend.

When it comes to strangers though, I have no issues letting them know I'm interested. Hell, I asked someone on my morning bus route to work a couple months ago 😂

I assume you have heard of Madmans Epsrit? They’re from Korea and they’re basically Black Metal

It sucks that K-Pop is dominating Korea instead of these guys or literally any other rock or metal band

Yes, I know about them! They vocalist is actually quite good. I didn't know this about them but they apparently go back and forth between Germany and Korea and are signed with Gan-Shin in Europe. You can definitely tell they take a lot of inspiration from vkei bands (especially since they associate themselves with bands like Dir en Grey, lynch and sukekiyo on their bandcamp lol).  This makes me wonder how much of a presence they actually have in Korea vs Europe since the latter has a strong vkei fan base already.

Korean vkei needs to be more of a thing.

  4. I stay as far away from the culture and music of Kpop as I can (difficult considering my circle of friends right now are all Korean and listen to it). It's just never appealed to me and the perception that I get is that it's done more harm to the Korean music industry than good. It hasn't allowed there to be space for different genres of music. Like, where are the hard rock bands and experimental electronic artists?

I think the burgeoning K-indie scene has created a more open space for actual artists to write and produce their own music and it's great to see some individual creativity. But even so, there's a certain sound you can peg to the scene and it's ended up creating, from my perspective anyway, an alternatively stylized sub-sect of cookie-cutter production in rap, rnb/hip hop, downtempo pop.

I'm not saying the music itself is bad, just that I would like to see more support for lesser-loved genres of music like hardcore, metal, and experimental music. You just don't see bands like Dir en grey and Deviloof, Mono and Boris or Midori and Otoboke Beaver from Korea.

The fact that this is being discussed at all means that there is an issue here, at least for some of us. I haven't minded any of the past mixes (until Tue Madsen's muddy DSS, particularly the singles)...

To my ears, TIW does not work; it's fatiguing.

A better master would make a huge difference. In TIW, there's so much overall compression that the sound is crushed to the point of almost becoming two-dimensional. That's why it sounds 'flat'. Distorted guitars sound 'flat' by their very nature. A good mix will give them not only spatial positioning but also breathing room in the song.

    and this

ppl out there are gonna be like ''wow the mastering on this is awful. they REALLY messed up the production on this one fellas'' & will then go right back to listening to music on $5 earbuds

Even on $5 headphones albums produced and mixed well sound fine.

I disagree. I think it sounds really good and the production great. Honestly, I’d say it’s probably their best single so far. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Production wise it sounds fine, but compositionally I meant that I find it lacking.

Shame. I think TWOM is amazing. IMO it’s up there with their best long songs, mine being Macabre (The OG and Remake) and Vinushka. Akuro no Oka is up there as well

Honestly, I wish I liked it more. There are some interesting ideas that they flirt with in the first and last third of the song, but I don't think they played with them enough. It comes off more like a polished demo in its currents state. I love those songs too, but this one just didn't have the same impact on me as those did.

I can see why people dislike it, especially if your a fan of DSS or Uroboros.

To me, I honestly couldn’t give two shits about the production. If anything, I like the more raw sound they went for. Is TIW a perfect album? No, but I do enjoy the hell out of TIW. Probably a light 8/10 IMO.

To be fair tho, I don’t really hate all their albums. There isn’t one album in Diru’s discography that I wouldn’t consider bad. I just enjoy certain albums over others. If anything, my ranking is a bit weird tbh lol

Feel free to disagree but that’s just my two cents

See, but I wonder if it's a matter of stylistic choices or poor production choices. I've heard other bands I like with lots of music industry experience (Japanese and other countries) release albums with some very questionable audio quality. Like, it'll be their 6th album and their album will be brickwalled and have clipped audio everywhere, or instruments balanced poorly. To me, those things are not a stylistic choice but amateur audio production. I haven't followed the release of this album at all so don't know anything about what the band has said about inspiration for the album or any production decisions, so maybe they did consciously decide on this sound, but just from my listening experience that's not the feeling I got. I may not be able to, but it's great you're able to overlook the production aspect of music since it allows you enjoy more music.

Is that a "Fantano" rating I hear?

Yeah, I agree their discography is really solid. There isn't anything I absolutely hate (except R to the Core) and they experiment a lot so they have a wide range of material.  But I still think World of Mercy is a burning Rubbish Heap 😂

  10. Uroboros

    Vulgar

    Macabre

    Withering to Death

    Dum Spiro Spero

    Gauze

Kisou *Side note, gyakusou tannou keloid milk is so good and they should remake it.

    Marrow of the Bone

    Arche

TIW gets a lot of undeserving hate IN MY OPINION

I think it's fine. But even when compared in a vacuum, I personally don't think it stacks very high next to their previous efforts. I know it's a matter of taste, but from the other albums I can find at least 1 or 2 tracks I like. Whereas, with TIW, I can't remember a single riff even after listening through it 4 times. Granted, I haven't sat down with it as much as their older work. But there's just something missing from it compositionally and sonically for me that fail to grasp my initial interest.  I found albums like TMOAB and DSS much more challenging to get into, but they had my attention and I wanted to revisit them. TIW is not bad by any means, but if I'm being honest I think it's just not what I was hoping for from the band. But a lot of people like the album and they can't please everyone right?

I haven’t yet heard all of them, but WHY SO LITTLE LOVE FOR DSS??? It’s one of my favorite albums honestly. It just paints this picture of being in a forest, chased by some Lovecraftian being... and then that ending. Did you get out? Did the monster kill you? Who knows. Yeah it’s a bit dense... but it needs more love imo.

Right here fam. Love that shit. This album has such a strong atmosphere (although Tue Madsen absolutely murdered some of songs here which is sad. Tragic what happened to album versions of the singles). Ruten no Tou is one of my absolute top Diru songs.

  11. TWOM really does sound like a mash up of several ideas. It's pieced together so poorly though with no real cohesion. Cool sounds here and there, I like the doom-metal vibes in the first third of the song and the more post-metal-y vibes in the latter third. But, this might be one of the worst songs they've released. 10 minutes of no direction and no real hooks or riffs. No offense, but next time please kindly leave your ideas at the door Kyo.

  12. Fuck, I don't know what's wrong with me but being single is really getting me down lately. It seems like no matter what I try literally no one is interested in me. Doesn't matter if it's meeting strangers in public, dating apps, or trying to get closer to friends who are potential interests.

Keeping myself busy with personal projects and events has helped but it's not enough of a distraction. Is there a pill I can drink that just drains my emotions out within 24 hours and allows me to go about my life normally? Cuz fuuuck.
