  1. This album is a quick one (barely 35 minutes), but an interesting one. I think I like it more than ANGELS. It‘a more “modern” than anything else they’ve done. Their tracks from the unknown flowers split with Boris could have worked on this album, especially Journey.

So far, my favourites are Dead Heaven and Hamletmachine, least favourites are New York and 開け放たれた窓.

  2. There are only a few Japanese bands that I've slept on for more than a few years.

BUCK-TICK: I slept on them for nearly ten years. I've known about them since 2009, I would receive a song of theirs in a few trade-offs time to time, even downloaded a few albums, but never really put in the effort to listen to them until sometime last year. I don't quite remember what motivated this, or which I album I officially started with, but I now listen to them all the time.

BORIS: learned of their existence in 2011, but didn't really bother to listen to anything; in 2013, I added New Album to my wishlist where it sat for years and years; I downloaded NOISE in 2014 but never really listened to it. In 2016, they re-released PINK, and I decided to give them a real try, I finally listened to NOISE and got hooked. Now, they're one of my absolute favourite bands!

If we're including non-Japanese bands, there's a bigger list. Each year between 2016-2019, I rediscovered a band that I hella slept on approximately ten years prior. In 2016, I got into The Number Twelve Looks Like You; in 2017, Deftones; 2018, Underoath; 2019, tool. It became a musical discovery event that I would anticipate. I'm not sure if there are any more bands I could rediscover to keep this tradition going.

This all has me pondering how my taste in music has changed in the past fifteen years. I learned of these bands when I was a teenager, and a lot of them I learned about when my taste in music was narrower than ever. I wonder, would I have been able to appreciate any of these bands when I first learned they existed? Would their music have changed my palate sooner, or in different ways? Or did my palate need to change the way it did before I could appreciate their music?

  3. At The Beginning will be released on 27 May (CD in Japan, digital/streaming worldwide). The album is currently available for pre-order on their online shop, and orders placed by 17 April should arrive on 13 May. The album will also get an early release on Bandcamp, on 16 May.

The cover, done by tobird, was inspired by the track 消失点 (Shoushitsu-ten). "The sphere of the jacket beautifully expresses the three-dimensional, clear and noisy sound of the world." "The artwork is a symbolic object that can be felt at the beginning or end, positively, negatively, naturally, or artificially." tobird set out to create something that could be put on display in someone's room.

    Tracklist:

    1, Rainbow
2, 薔薇と子供 (Bara to Kodomo; A Rose and A Child)
    3, 理解者 (Rikaisha; Supporter)
    4, Dead Heaven
    5, 消失点 (Shoushitsu-ten; Vanishing Point)
    6, 楽園 (Rakuen; Paradise)
    7, New York
    8, Hamletmachine
9, 開け放たれた窓 (Ake-hanatareta mado; The Abandoned Window)

    薔薇と子供 is streaming on YouTube

TOUR -消失点- will go from 16 May to 11 July, and a ¥2,000 student discount will be offered on tickets.

  4. They're doing a making-of DVD feature for this album? Really? They just thought it was that good, huh? m'kay that's not delusional

It's not the steaming pile of shit I was low-key anticipating, but it wasn't that great. Starts off strong, but then just drops halfway. The weaker songs are only as weak as they are because Tatsurou ruins them, the music itself is decent at worst. What the hell happened to him, anyway? He used to be good, right? Is every VK vocalist's voice just turning to shit lately? We got Arimura, we've got that stupid nose job guy from 己龍, and now this dude.

Still, my expectation: 壊れたピアノ > 悪 >> 脈拍

  5. I have one credit card and I try to keep my balance under $400. I prefer using my credit card because I get phone notifications for every purchase, and, y'know, points. I only get 1.5% back, but it beats only getting 1% back occasionally on debit. I usually only use debit if I'm making a hefty purchase (high credit usage can affect your credit score), gas (at stations that charge cash price for debit users), and car insurance (because I have to). I pay cash for my share of the mortgage and my car loan (it's a weird story) and that's about it.

Having a credit card has not been a problem for me, because my card has no fee, I avoid overspending, I pay my bills on time and in full, and my credit limit is a fraction of what I have in my checking account. If someone's buying things with their card that they can't afford, I will assume that they're either a) going through an unforeseen financial crisis, or b) dangerously irresponsible with money.

I never understood why my friends have like 4-6 active credit cards

People I know who have multiple credit cards tend to designate a different purpose for each card. They'll have one card that gets maximum points on certain buys, another card that gets good points for others, at least one of them is Visa or MC, at least one of them doesn't have foreign transaction fees (if they're travellers, or weebs like us), and sometimes a business credit card.

I have mixed feelings about this album, but I'm leaning more towards optimism. On one hand, they released a really good album last year, one that was a major step-up from 脈拍, but on the other hand, Amelia and COBALT are the only singles that I liked at all; I didn't care for the rest. I am glad that the worst of the worst (e.g 例えば僕が居なかったら, HOTEL LEMMON TREE) won't be appearing. I did see potential in room, but Tatsurou just sounded awful. His voice in general hasn't been sounding great these days.

I'm expecting a decent album, hoping for something great, but also prepared for something far below average.

Why did rapal dark res get erased?

Firstly, Roem Service cancelled the show because it was too expensive (and nobody contributed to the Patreon), and he just lost interest in Drag Race itself, which is understandable since season 10 was a pile of shit and season 11 was an even bigger pile of shit.

As for the show being erased, copyright reasons. World of Blunder found it and YT threatened to demonetise Roem’s channel if he didn’t remove the videos. They’re all archived on DailyMotion right now.

Why does rupaul's recruitment favor NY every season? Are they New Yorkers themselves?

    Probably

Anyone still give a shit about rpdr?

I'm debating if I will watch the new season. Only reason I'm debating and not absolutely skipping is because I wanna keep up with Race Chaser podcast.

I wish RaPal Dark Res was never abandoned and erased

I can't imagine being close to a new yorker IRL, they seem unbearable lol thx drag race.

Don't worry, it's not Drag Race's fault; NY'ers are typically like that. And according to wiki, there are five NY girls in the new season. I hope they all get eliminated first in a shocking quintuple sashay. That would freshen things up

  10. I'm not expecting this year to be all that interesting

    • The lynch. album will bring nothing new to the table, but it'll be just a bit better than XIII
    • If the GazettE don't release their next album this year, they'll at least announce its release (or announce the announcement)
    • BUCK-TICK will release an album, it falls into the two year pattern they've seemingly settled into; it'll have an electro-retro sound to it
    • ザアザア will churn out more singles with really good A-sides and very bleh b-sides, but they will not release an album because they are stupid
    • MERRY will be so focused on trying to sell that nostalgii jewellery that they'll forget to release any actual music
    • R-shithead members will do unmemorable side projects; with or without music, Mamo will do something heinous #mamoisoverparty
    • MEJIBRAY will not get back together; their side projects will continue to be astonishingly terrible
    • ARTiCLEAR will put out a solid release (but they'll probably disband sooner than TBS did; Jin is cursed)
    • BORIS will mostly tour this year, maybe do a collab with ... Merzbow 🙄

Anybody else I didn't mention will either churn out skippable singles or tour around Japan; like I said, not all that interesting

Here's the BP RECORDS CALENDAR (besides what's already been announced)

    • コドモドラゴン: new single in mid September, another one announced in December
    • 己龍: new single in late August (and not a single guitar will be heard), next album announced in November
    • Royz: new album in early September (it will  S U C K  ), a single announced in December

@Seimeisen you have a Mac. Can you confirm this visual bug? I have Windows so I can't see it.

I'm not seeing it on Safari, Firefox, or Opera; the buttons all show as they're supposed to on each browser. I don't use Chrome, so I can't confirm for that one.

I also learned to stop judging them as if they were the OG Dezert. If I was doing it that way, all of the above would go straight to trash, so I treat it as completely unrelated, separate release of a band DEZERT2.

This is essential to enjoying anything they’ve released after 2016!

  13. If you're in the mood for pop music, you'll maybe enjoy this. If you liked TODAY, you'll like this too, maybe more. If you need heavy music, and/or cannot reconcile the fact that DEZERT aren't usually heavy anymore, stick with Dark In Black Hole, maybe 感染少女 and 神経と重力, but skip the rest.

    Quick track-by-track:

Dark In Black Hole: epic compared to what's ahead; going on your best songs of the year playlist
バケモノ: slightly above meh; generic 2010s vk; key-change chorus doesn't help

Thirsty?: actually a fun song; not as lame as the preview suggests
みぎて: has a cool intro, sounds like it could get heavy, but it doesn't; still, not as lame as preview suggests [2]
白痴: nice guitar melody, not into the beat though
Call of Rescue: just good, fitting slow song
半透明を食べる。: interesting, kind of like 血液がない
御法度: not as good as the preview suggests, key-change-chorus; might be another song that grows on you (?)
神経と重力: really cool; serving the judges THE NOVEMBERS' 鉄の夢 vibes
天使の前頭葉: wonderful, beautiful, slow ballad that puts Stranger to shame; feels vaguely Christmas-y without being "seasonal"
Rhapsody In My Head: weird, but not always bad weird; it's a grower; jazz, key-change-end
感染少女: YaAAss sequel to 蛙とバット機関銃, wErQq
True Man: dying is your latest fashion in Japanese
I'm sorry: the pop intro from Filth in the beauty (minus the Engrish ladies); another example of "great guitar melody, bad beat"

  14. Judging by the preview, it sounds like we're in the same situation as TODAY, where the first track is awesome, the tracks we've already heard are good, and ¾ of the rest are a load of bleh.

I'm starting the album just for the hell of it, and Dark In Black Hole is more impressive than anything off TODAY.
