I definitely understand that, but for me, this particular style of synthwork detailed in this thread really gets under my skin and makes me reach for the skip button faster than anything.

I remember back in 2011 when REALies came out with "NuAGE" and a lot of people accused them of having super sloppy synths with no sense of dynamics, myself included. However, compared to what I'm calling the "treble synth kei" style that seems pretty prevalent now, that REALies song sounds innovative!

By looking back to REALies, I could  agree that their presence would be rather missed in this context since god knows how many possible programming loops and tracks VK acts slam these days (aside from this treble fad you spoke of). With cases in point like Lycaon's Anima or pretty much anything Pentagon I could definitely tolerate a single or a couple of elements like in NuAGE rather than mishmash these formerly mentioned collectives put out.

Elaborating this by supporting @herpeshere:

Love or hate Laputa's rave/trance era but just like in NuAGE, synths here are added in for "thematic" purposes - instruments are not drowned etc. etc.. God knows what happened after this and during 10s really....Sorry for derailing this thread!

Frankly speaking there has been always a huge ( HUUUUUUUUUGE) batch of vk acts going for rather sloppy, plastered synthcraft per each era visual scene had during its existence. Even now I could barely name significant neo-vk chaps whose synth work I actually *feel* - take say, Blu-Billion? Their synth game MAKES SENSE to me, idk.

I've been to Finland the most (once a year), as I have a lot of family up there and I love to go there every time <3 I'm always crawing Sauna here.  

 

My favourite country so far was Norway (have been there 3 times). The landscape is unbelievably beautiful, I can't put it into words, you just have to see for yourself. And of course Japan was awesome, even though I only know Tokyo. 

 

Next up is going back to Tokyo in February. I also plan to go to Finland in summer and to London in fall. 

Which part of Finland are you considering/visiting this summer though?

Aside from occasional "good summers" around ze west coast and "ideal, lovely winters" a bit further off from Rovaniemi we really don't have anything else. "Bah, my place's a grim shithole" - thinking has been bugging me for years and tbqh I envy people with remaining optimism in ups of my home country.

So perhaps I am one of the few folks here who travel here and there in the light of "what if"-kind of explorations (bluntly: "how to get the fuck out and to where exactly"). But lately certain parts of China (the first visit is not enough), Belarus, British Columbia, Australia and prolly even Hokkaido have become quite tempting in my books. However, I am still eager to find myself once more in Singapore, Prague or somewhere around Okinawa so one can only dream about cohesive plans in my boots.

P.S. this hipsterite me is not really into holiday resorts, sorry.

Now that I came back to frozen wastes of Moominland from glorious Japan (and Asia in overall so not just this country), I am not sure whether this lag makes me really tired or otherwise really energetic atm...but I do miss a lot of stuff after having been to like maybe 10+ towns/cities in such a short time span @_@

What happened lately (as for racial-based press) is not "kids just fooling around" but the kind of blatantly and downright low act of showcasing racial hatred. You don't solve issues or commit "justified vengeance" by casting your anger upon random victims of the opposite ethnicity or race - especially not upon those who are not 'abled'. No excuses.

As for L'arcoustics, latest HONEY L'acoustic version is pure awesomeness for lounge aficionados like me  - works better here than with " I'm So Happy" where I cannot help but rule it out as an outtake from Hyde's drunk sessions haha lol.

Let's not forget about "album b-sides"...well, technically they are b-sides in the light of album's a-sides, a.k.a single songs, amirite?

Won't URL because L'arc is sensitive about YT uploads but namely (and chronologically) Entichers, Blame, Garasu Dama, Fare Well , LORELEY, Cradle, Ibara no Namida, TIME SLIP,  Coming Closer, Hoshizora, Sunadokei and Shade of Season are among my all-time favorite album b-sides - and of course my choices are not exactly all "most popular" ones but personally speaking this palette is what exactly describes L'arc's rainbow-ish diversity to me...

Question is how they will restructure instrumentations.

Ruki's change is foreseeable but I wonder how much will e.g. TOXIC ballads change with new axe/drumcraft..

From ze big heat of SG to ze mainland chill of rural China is one huge shocker really.

At this point my body is not ready for Finland...nor to early winter Japan either.

Out of those three Zakurogata felt less out-of-place in regards to Disorder's positioning - the inclusion of Miseinen would be more of the off-the-context solo banger than 7/8 song was and Zetsu has no place with songs like Social... and Carry really (as much as Zetsu is the best of Gazette jams ever).

As for my personal opinion on Zakurogata, I like how it's varied in all its quirkiness  yet its de facto story context is grim af. Not better than those two other singles ofc but far off from being something "totally unlikable".

But then again, this comes from a guy who legitly jams along to [DIS] and similar "so bad that it's good" Gazette songs.

It is a real goddamn shame that people (or millennials) can discard their morals, ethics, humane sympathy etc. for a while  just to act like savage tribesmen and party on the graves of people they despised and loathed, and at the same time call for exclusion of folks for this same reasoning. Not that it would be strongly connected to VK (question whether this is actually related to visual scene due to their frontman is still debatable) but Kiyoharu's SADS had an album in 2001 (The Rose God Gave Me) which imho may have served as some sort of inspiring direction in regards to combining nu metal/sometimes American alt. metal ideas with various "progenitor" ideas of heavier visual kei music (glam rock-metal/punk).

"Because" and "Porno Star" are already familiar to everyone (not exactly nu metal) but this may be the nu metalliest piece Kiyoharu has ever made:

Limp Bizkit-meets-glam metal-ish stuff (ofc with good ol' dose of spoken word goodness)

This may also count, I guess (influence-wise) - awkward rapping bridges and climax are something which one would imagine in a nu metal piece rather than in some glam punk banger.

Mata, Otsukisama sounds very Utsusemi-ish (or even from Ammonite, my likely guess) Manegoto sounds a lot like Pura stuff circa 2006-2007 and it has been stated already that Nekoyume is basically a self-cover (by his Neji side-project with guys from Té, around 2002-2003).

I wonder if there will be more than just one song off those early 90s sessions really (considering the amount of songs).

- I excluded acts before 00s because VK vocals are not just about pure gackting, squawking or warbling anymore. Albeit us witnessing throwback acts every now and then, we notice that today's bandwagon has also opted for more indie-friendly, albeit funnily pitched (still indie-friendly) vocalwork among newer acts. Or are you implying that acts akin to DIV, Unite, Chanty,  Blu-Billion and other indie pop/rock influenced acts are dedicated lynch-ian crooning posterboys as well?  So I still cannot understand why you would presume those who cast those comparisons to be *OBJECTIVELY* wrong and "unaware of VK" (= implying?).

- TK and Junichi Konno have a lot to do with this because indie vocalcraft is not the art of one trick ponies either as of in this decade really.

 So let's rest the case:

Cinema Staff may not be inherently "vk-lite" as in influences but comparisons to vk are not far off if we touch certain (coincidental) nuances them and certain VK acts of today's exposure have in common. Don't expect anyone "listening to VK" to be immediately "MH-savvy" (MH is not the lone oasis of VK fandom tbqh).

I'd have to go with Chanty. As much as I enjoy cinema staff, I think Chanty actually has a more dynamic and interesting sound, imho. I'm just mad at myself for not looking into them until last year. 

There's this guy who also got behind this notion of "sounding vk" in cinema staff's case around those FB's J-indie circles and AFAIK he had Unite (well, that vk act) in his mind when describing them - which is surprisingly apt when we think of comparisons (uplifting, soft but still sorta medium-ranged vocalcraft etc.). VK vocals have no fixed medium (we are not living 00s anymore) at this point so it's really difficult to argue about  "objectivity" or "they definitely don't listen to vk" (the hell we know?!).

I mean, sometimes people even guess rather out-of-nowhere  VK influences of J-indie figureheads to this day, e.g. TK (avid Luna Sea fan) or Junichi Konno from Karasu (Mucc and Merry somewhat influenced his work on several albums).
