Getting a bit off-topic, is there anything similar to 8-eit, but not japanese? I just started listening to them, and I fell in love instantly. =D

Hello,

I am sure many of us know of the popularity of Visual Kei bands having an archetypical Jazz / Swing influenced song thrown into their library (Jazz and Swing for lack of better word), where certain similar elements are thrown into a song that the band may not ever use or show influence from elsewhere. Some bands also seem to use this sound as a mainstay.

I was wondering how many songs we could think of with this sound, how far back it goes, and what bands and songs could be considered the originators of this trend.

Some examples:

EROS - Lycaon
Gossip - Lycaon
LONLINESS PRINCESS - Shounenki
PARADOX - Royz
And many tracks by LiphLich, as heard on their Full Course album esp.

I am sure I remember some older ones, will update later.

Please give your input and list any other songs that you feel fall into this trend, or can be related. Any similar trends that you were wondering about?

Edit: Renamed the thread since it was anonymously re-purposed to something it wasn't intended to be.

Feel free to post or talk about any kind of jazz or swing songs in Japanese Rock however, I'm sure we can all enjoy them and possibly find connections in their origins, as was the original intention of this thread.

Anything by:

モダン組曲

the Vambie

AI-版

Secret Circus

Rosario

Would fall into that category, since they base their sound around that.

Songs that I can think of off the top of my head is:

姫苺 - Sherry?

J∀CK11 - 拝啓カジノ支配人たま

xTRiPx - BREACH.

One trend I can think of is the mid to late 00's heavy bands being mostly numetal and of course the koteosa bands.

Mucc's "堕落" was the first that came to mind. But also "Pure Black".

exist†trace - "GINGER" Though this is probably more big band/swing than jazz.

Also probably a ton of songs from Merry because I always thought incorporating jazz was a big part of their sound.

I hate jazz more than anything (with reggae) but I admit I absolutely adore these songs :

メガマソ (megamasso) - そだばべ似顔 (from SWEET SWITCH)

メガマソ (megamasso) - 四の喫茶館物語 (from M of Beauty)

just listen to anything by Sugar tbh

I might go through my library to try to find some of these songs later. I may be wrong on this, but I think the trend got more traction in early-mid '00s, at the same time some bands like SID, duraluMin and 華族 came up using mostly jazzy elements in their music.

Actually it'd be really interesting to find the earliest examples of this trend. But before anything like that happens in my head I just have to post this masterpiece. : v

Vidoll used jazzy tunes (and especially brilliant jazzy basslines) from the very beginning of their career, but Doll's bar "V.I.D" the most pure one.
