Actors who tried a music career

Recommended Posts

I discovered today that Troy Baker, Robert Downey Jr and Ryan Gosling all have released albums at some point in their career.

If anything, I hope this entertains you at least a little. Robert Downey Jr. is the worst one I found so far.

Do you know of any other actors who have have released music? Any good releases out there?

I was very surprised to find out Mark Wahlberg was a rapper at one point. He went by Marky Mark. Admittedly, I don't know an awful lot about the guy but from what I've seen of him, I never woulda guessed he'd been a rapper if I hadn't read/heard it myself. I dunno, maybe that's common knowledge but I didn't expect it.

Yosuke Kubozuka (known for the movie GO, dramas like Ikebukuro West Gate Park, the live action of GTO, etc. and recently in some stuff in the West like Martin Scorsese's Silence) has been a reggae singer under the name 卍LINE (Manji LINE) for several years now.

He's admittedly not the best at it, but some of the tracks are kinda fun.

Also, absolutely yes to Party All The Time. That's such a great track.

Steven Seagal has a few albums out.

Andy Lau has about  a billion albums, just like a billion other Asian actors and actresses. So in his case, and Jackie Chan etc, it's not as unusual as it in certain times have been incredibly popular to work this way.

I haven't heard everything he's ever done, but this song is just beyond fantastic.

Meiko Kaji is another one. She is easily among my all time favourite actors, and she's released some incredible music as well. In fact she's a personal favourite of mine. Quentin Tarantino used two of her songs in Kill Bill, Shura no Hana and Urami Bushi.

Crispin Glover released one album. It's an experimental fever dream-like spkoken-word record. Reaaally bizarre stuff.

He also made this little music video as part of Willard's physical release. I love this movie ♥

Thanks for all the amusing input. I don't know why but I'm impressed by Jackie Chan, the music isn't anything inventive, but I appreciate that he sings in English, Chinese and Japanese. Doing the multi-lingual hustle long before any k-pop bois.

I thought Vin Diesel had released that song years ago, but turns out it was last month?! What pushed him to do this.

@ghost that was amazing 😆

I don't really put Asians here cos of standards difference. In East Asia, being multi talented are appreciated, so it is very common to find actors who can sing or singers who acts. In some cases it was actually required for to be a star to be able to do all. Especially in China/HK/Taiwan showbiz.

People like Andy Lau, Jacky Chan, Aaron Kwok, Sammi Cheng, Anita Mui, Jimmy Lin, and dozens more have been a teen heart throbs in their days, both by acting and music.

While in the West, the modern showbiz standards caused a lot of professional  actors who cross overs into recording an album becomes either niche side project or laughing stocks, unless they are really good at it.
