And I have to add that many here on MH owe to An Cafe our entrance to the VK scene back in its West-spreading era during 2006-2010. So, they DO deserve to be listened, well-listened, without the much suspicions that fall over the "poppy" side of VK.
 
Also, don't get the "poppy" tag too seriously. They sure are pop-oriented, but don't think you'll got bland tracks, meaning very predictable music. Just try them; at least their first two albums. They sure will make the difference!

Honestly sometimes I can't fathom those comments too @saiko.
Bands like A9 and ayabie had very similar indies periods where they went through a gothic period too and then transitioned into something else that worked for the most part. They left some of the best tracks from that era hands down, and I think many bands wish they had such timeless tracks on their roster today.
 
Around 2002-2005 a lot of fans from back then listened to those bands if not more like them like Vidoll, Kagrra, Kra, Lolita23q, and DuelJewel. There's more but I was not an active VK listener back then, so I'd have to ask my elders lol.
 
Oshare gets a bad rap for sure, but a lot of bands border that nowadays so it doesn't make sense haha.

I'm also planning to go on October/November and I'm waiting for the bands I want to see to update their schedules, so I'll probably book my flights in August. Smaller bands can add gigs sometimes with as short as 2 months in advance.

They're not definite. The bands update then as you get closer to October. I'd say wait a while. Chances are pretty big that most bands will be playing in October as well. Back when I planned my Tokyo trip (couple of months ago), there were no gigs for August but most bands have now

What's going on?

I think that what matters here is not Rands per se rather than what listening to Rands actualizes of a hope for today's visual kei to regain its moment when it was done with artistic value, sometimes more and sometimes less, but it certainly it couldn't be without it.

I started to pay attention to lynch because of this song. So fucking cool!
