Kyo isn't flawless, we already know he had always pushed himself so hard that today he has a pretty much messed up throat. But I feel his work in sukekiyo, while being way more melodic and sophisticated than in late Dir, let him put out the best of his performance all the way up rather than in his former band. So listening to sukekiyo feels actually really refreshing and more natural when it is about listening to Kyo, imho.

They are both actually enjoyable bands, but on the other hand I feel that I can't worship them more than other artists of their time, compared to whom they really seem so amateurish it hurts sometimes, heh. But hey, this is also me looking for 'quality' music, and, if there is anything VK taught me, is that 75% of the times I should enjoy other aspects of the bands within the scene rather than their musicianship, lol!

They were really amateur. Some songs are catchy, but nothing more than that. When you listen 5+ songs you quickly find them uninspired and unskilled.

I don't think this is a debate thread, but I really do take issue with calling a band like Baiser uninspired when they changed up the formula with each album they released. The first album and demos don't even sound like the same band that made the second one, and by the last one they'd tightened up their game considerably from the third. La'mule also showed healthy progression throughout and the BERLIN single sounds like they would've had another chapter ahead of them had they not disbanded.

They certaintly have grown a lot since their indie days. While I can't say that I'm a fan of modern day GazettE, I do like their auditory aesthetics. I think what's seriously lacking though for me is some good melody. We know they can rock hard and their sound is polished, but personally there are maybe only 4-5 tracks between their last 2 albums that I thoroughly enjoyed and remember. It's like they went from making Gazerock to making Gazesthetics.

The Transition from DIVISION to NINTH is by far one of the best examples of growth.

Their earlier material is great but i can only listen to em on occasion.

DOGMA Era will always be the best GazettE era.

Listened to every full-length album/mini-album from the GazettE over the course of the last week since I hadn't done so in a very long time (really never gave a lot of their full-lengths the proper time of day until DOGMA).

I'm having trouble ranking them in my head, but I do like NINTH much more this time around than when it first came out. DOGMA is still my favorite and overall their most consistent effort. MADARA is the best of their pre-"the GazettE" material and one of their best releases overall, really did a great job of capturing multiple genres in a tightly wrapped package.

Disorder, NIL, Stacked Rubbish, and DIM had some really standout tracks (the first two being interesting to me as they feel very transitional sound-wise from "ガゼット" to "the GazettE" - I do think there is a bit of a stylistic difference between the two, even if only because of time and growth). Toxic feels the least memorable to me immediately. Division and Beautiful Deformity both surprised me as I felt they ended up being better than expected as a whole.

Whoever said a few posts up that they're consistent in terms of sound, but maybe not songwriting, kinda hit the nail on the head. None of their albums are bad in my opinion, but it's also a bit difficult in immediate succession to judge the strongest output since many of the songs run together and feel similar to one another.

DOGMA and NINTH are definitely a cut above the rest, though.

Overall I think they're at their strongest when they work in extremes - their REALLY aggressive tracks and their more reserved, ballad-style tracks are their most memorable and the ones I'm most likely to go back to. The stuff that sits in the more nu-metal/alt-rock range isn't bad (and is certainly better than most western bands floating in those genres), it just runs together a bit more than the rest.

This song is one of the main reasons why I started playing bass. Still there isn't anything that sounds like this in the whole VK story. Probably one of the best examples of Dir's versatility at composing.

Basically every VK band that tried to jump on the West circa 2007. So cringey it hurts.

Btw, my bandmates may act the same. Our songwriting screams "visual kei" in every sense but whenever someone points out anything towards that direction over it they would say "Wtf man, actually we do math rock, we have zero to do with those jap weirdos".

They are in a dire need of a hiatus, for a year, at least, because this is getting worse and worse. The new Youtuber bullshit is just a cherry on top of all that trashpile. It feels like BPR wants to milk out every last yen, 'til Mahiro actually goes blind.

Lol, after reading the posts in this thread I just imagined like a montage of YOSHIKI headlines.

"Long-awaited X JAPAN album finally released - hits number 30 on the Billboard charts"
"Legendary rock band X JAPAN collaborates with Oprah, crafts a line of best-selling home decor items"
"Meet YOSHIKI, the head of X Decor, the brand taking it to IKEA"
"X Decor's YOSHIKI is now one of the world's richest living people"
"YOSHIKI transfers brain into mechanized body, so that he may live forever and 'escape the pain of his past'"
"Mecha Emperor YOSHIKI promises that his new album is finished and will be released 'once all the details have been worked out with management'"
"'While I can no longer physically die, making this album was so tough that it almost killed me' Emperor YOSHIKI confesses"

BTW I saw some shmuck claiming Kyo's range was G1-C9 on a YT comment.

1 ) The highest note any person ever hit was E8 (and it sounded really bad, the previous record holder that could go as high as Eb8 sounded much better). That's eight semitones below C9, more than half an octave.
    2) While Kyo's has reached G#7 it's definitely not good sounding nor controled. And it's 1 octave and 4 semitones below C9. One octave has 12 semitones btw.
    3) The highest note people from The Range Place count on his range is E6 since people there are really picky when it comes to counting stuff on vocal ranges. That's 2 FUCKING OCTAVES and 8 SEMITONES below C9. A piano only goes up to C8, but if it did go up to C9, this person would get the wrong note for fucking 32 piano keys.

For some reason I have this feeling that they're really banking on getting some dumb gaijin views by wearing those outfits and having reshot that Attack Attack PV, which will be making the white piggus go "omg so heavy but they look like japanese women xDD omg baby metal"  etc.

Good thing that women are still standing up for themselves, even in Japan. Also men shouldn't have anything to say about it, as they are not the ones carrying the child in their body.
Oh well, let's end this here. As we are heading off-topic now.

Back when they were still on their prime, their heavy stuff was virtually unbeatable. Their attempt at making "heavy" stuff with TIW was just bad, dumbed down and annoying. I remember someone here saying that they should leave the heavy stuff to younger bands because they're doing it better than DeG now and it saddens me, but I agree. I honestly doubt anyone else will ever come up with something the level of Uroboros or DSS, but a lot of bands are pulling the whole extreme/alternative/prog metal(core) thingy better than DeG did with TIW.
I think it's possible, they've "resurected" older songs before (albeit in heavily different forms sometimes). "Conceived Sorrow" and "Revelation of Mankind" were included on the albums that followed the ones they were originally composed for, for example.
