Soulcalibur and Croissant with Toffeesauce.

I always listen to classical music when I want to concentrate, but only instrumental or choir, no solo singers.
Lately I prefer Haydn.
-
Another look that is still around and hasn't changed for 20 years is the 'prince' one.
-
Did someone ask an important question like "When are you going to be rerecording 'Lepra' and 'Violet'?"
If they do this I'll have to put on my superhero costume and punish them in the name of Isuke.
-
Huh? Is this true in regards to doing screwed up stuff during PVs? Are these reliable sources that are saying this?
Well. The part about the blood is from the directors blog, so yes.
Whether the person was alive or dead and which scene it was (also whether they even used the scene) is unknown.
But yes, it seems they appearently did pretty extreme stuff back then. XD In the bio it says that VISUAL TRAP was founded when the members (two or three people) were still in university so I assume they were just as young and stupid as the bands they were working with if that explains anything.
-
Well. Not sure whether I'll reach 10 artists.
CELL - Loved what they did so far. Even if there were more bands around that fit my taste - those guys would still be a favorite!
グリーヴァ - Well. The problem with them is that they aren't the real thing. I still kind of enjoy them, but I hope for them to do something more original soon. At the moment it's more that I follow them because there are no other high quality oldschool bands to follow.
Penicillin and Machine - So far, surprisingly, I liked almost every phase these bands went through. Their songs don't change my life or anything but are always nice to listen to.
Luna Sea - The only 'legendary' band whose new material I actually enjoy. Although I still prefer their first albums.
12012, Dir en grey and 黒夢 - Bands that I only follow because I really, really, really like their old releases and hope that one day they might amaze me again. (they won't)
Recently I'm a bit interested in newcomer 'oldschool' bands like GAUZES and La'veil Mizeria, too.

The sounds and camera is horrible. :/
Well, I didn't record it.
Nor did I post it to spoil your day, someone was asking about recordings and I posted what I found.
-
@hyura: I think Das:Vasser's vocalist had same-ish look, if I remember correctly :/
He did! Seems like I didn't include him because I didn't have a 'portrait'-style picture like for the others. XD
I didn't even know the white-streak of hair was still going on tbh. Thanks everyone for posting!
And yes. Pink haired guitarists.

As for the other discussion going on here: I think it's very important to keep in mind that whether a person is attractive (naturally or through elaborate styling or simply by flaunting their sexuality, doesn't matter.) doesn't change anything about the quality of whatever they do.
And, accordingly, being drawn to someones looks doesn't make you somehow incapable of judging whether their work is really good or not.
Their seems to be a myth that those things ontradict each other but that's not true. Take Sugizo in the 90s. He's really, really talented and his guitar solos make everybody happy. At the same time he somehow wears weird brokinis and rubs all over his guitar and that, too, makes everybody happy. Then look at his fans. They will propably show a spectrum from total fixation on his music to total fixation on his looks but most will be somewhere inbetween and kinda like both.
-
I think I will buy this.
Now if only they'd continue their Matina bootleg series next....
they won't. -
I just found this picture I made two years ago on my Facebook page and thought it was an interesting topic.
Many people claim that the 'original' VK is already dead but... I think there are some looks that have been around forever and still keep getting copied.
Can you think of some timeless looks, too?
-
WHaaaaaaaaat?! It was streaming? *cries*
^^^^^^^^
WHAT?
...Did they announce that somewhere? ;O;
-
^omg, they used real blood? By humans? I hope they got it from a blood donating source and didn't have to slay people for it XDD
Well since it was infected blood I'm guessing they didn't get it from a donating service. XDDDD But he really just wrote 'Drenched in a hepatitis type b patients blood. Wish he told me earlier."
And appearently they were all arrested by the police while filming COLORs 'EXHIBITION'-pv. And there was a rotten dog cadaver on the set for 'Jealous' (I think I read that in a diru interview somewhere before...).
Now I want to read the whole blog!
-
Interesting~
Thanks for the translation!
You are very welcome. orz

Ahhh, my hair has gotten pretty long.... I will cut it by the end of this month :>
I thought the entire purpose of having hair on ones head is to grow it long. 8D

@hyura:
http://www.visualtrap.co.jp/vt/home001.html here's a list of VISUAL TRAP's works, seems like they started in 1995-1996-ish?
Woaaaah~
Thank you for the link. It's so interesting to see how many of my favorite PVs were actually made by them.
Also funny how the director added some anecdotes in their blog.
Like how he got drenched in somebody's blood while making ASH and later finding out that person had hepatitis. The hell.

Back in the 90's, Visual Kei wasn't really filled with (excuse me for the word) weebo fangirls screaming at the sexy thighs of whoever a guy and that entire drama. People enjoyed the music over the looks. And I don't really consider Penicillin, SADS and BUCK-TICK any VK, they're in the league of X JAPAN and stuff, with worldwide fans because they're overall just 'general' rockbands having the capability of reaching out overseas with their music, other than with their face full of piercings and happy kawaii neko neko childplay consisting of creating a fanbase with fanservice.
Those are some strong words.
I'd rather say... when visual bands toured overseas in the 90s there wasn't that type of fan because there were no western fans alltogether. (Well. One or two for sure, but no 'scene'). They propably played for casual rock or gothic fans and yes, those people propably didn't care about Hakueis thighs as much.
But that doesn't mean Penicillin, Buck Tick and SADS aren't full of fanservice (And visual kei bands. Just because they were good and succesful doesn't mean they weren't VK), because they are. I mean... Most old Penicillin videos pretty much consist of them sucking each others faces while wearing shiny leather outfits. And the fans they had at that time did care very much for sure.
Because those bands had much, much more mainstream popularity than most VK acts touring overseas nowadays one could say the music was more important in the sense that if they stopped being naked and handsome people would still buy their cd as casual listeners but still.
And CELL make great music, I'm sure they have lots of fans because of that. Also they aren't even goodlooking.
-
Penicillin also played in the USA in the 90s.
And Sads appearently toured Britain.

Wish
I wish forever...
A snowy sky in January
Look, my white sigh
Longing for you
Still
Waiting for you on that hill where we promised even now
Because I'm still not able to accept it...
Mementos of being together
I can't throw the photographs away
Although it must hurt, right?
I wonder why...
Why did you disappear without saying goodbye?
Those days I can't return to anymore will always...
Ah, If I could stay
In this dream with you forever
Ah, although it won't come true
I want to be happy with you once more...
Ah, If I could stay
In this dream with you forever
Ah, although it won't come true
I want to be happy with you again...
Ah, you are not here anymore
I know that, but
Ah, Look, when I'm aware
I still feel like you're next to me...
I wish you forever...
I need you forever...
And ever...----
In the "If I could stay/ in this dream with you forever"-part I had to turn the ligns around to make the translation work.
Otherwise it would have been "This dream with you forever/ If I could continue dreaming it" and that doesn't sound nice at all.
This text is totally similar to '悲しみは巡りゆく季節と眠る哀', don't you think so?

"Fight poison with more poison." appears to be a proverb. An English version is "Set a thief to catch a thief."
I apologize for the "haiyaiyate" parts. Tell me if you find a more elegant way to include the sound words. orz
...This text reminds me a lot of Dir en grey's 'filth'. (I think it was 'filth'.)

Demon sutra -Deformity-
A stifled dying voice made into a sacrifice
"Killed for the sin of being shaped like a demon."
That deformed body I was born in
Ts to blame for conjuring disaster I was told...
Those tears I shed were red
Breaking a voicelessly fluttering lifeCelebrating with a burning altar
Into the flames of prayer...
Cutting into me...
Cutting into this body...
Kill me...
If you can't forgive...
Just...
Kill...
Why...
Won't you kill me...
Hurry...
Finish it...
Made into a sacrifice
-----
奇形/Kikei means deformity (as in birth defect). However, in the title it's written using the kanji 鬼(demon) and 経(sutra) and in the lyrics using the kanji 鬼(demon) and 形(shape). I tried to include all possible versions in my translation.
Kyouki talked about this text in an interview before and said the image he had in mind was that of a medieval town where a little girl that was born with horns on her head is sacrificed by the villagers.
-
No, they don't! (Or maybe they do. XD Like I said- I didn't buy the cd.)
Just noticed (like Ichibayo) that the titles are either the same or very similar/have the same meaning like songs of Madeth Gray'll and La'Mule.
-
@Ikna
Aww, I wanted to post Kagerous videos, too and forgot. We seem to have a super similar taste.
Undercode often worked with VISUAL TRAP for Vidolls videos and VISUAL TRAP made La'Mules and Dir en greys early videos, too so that would explain it. And yes, there were lots of great ones I think... F stein, 新聞マスコミ~ and Deathmate are some more favorites.
Uhn. Did they by any chance produce some for 黒夢, too?
Because I just noticed that while Chocoripeyes reminds me of Inspire by La'Mule (duh.) Deathmate reminds me of 十字架との戯れ by 黒夢.
Then there's also lots of similarities between Dir en grey's and 黒夢s videos.... Either way. Hot stuff indeed!
And don't worry.
I don't think anybody else here thinks of you as 'lecturing' or lacking sense of humour. In fact I always enjoy reading your posts on this forum because you don't simply just state your opinion but also explain in detail where you're coming from. You seem to know a lot and I always learn new things from you. orz
In fact I'm a bit surprised about how Umi_Niwa manages to specifically attack well mannered and profound users like you or Yuugi all the time.
I think there are one or two 'lecturing' or rude posts on here but certainly not from you guys!
@Arithmetica
I haven't watched Raphael videos in years (I do listen to them a lot, though) and that one is so beautiful. Thank you for posting it. ;O;
When, Where and How did you first discovered Japanese Music?
in General
Posted
I became friends with some people from school who were a few years older and liked VK bands (especially Dir en grey) and gradually became fascinated with the unique sound and looks.
That was already 10 years ago!
