  1. I don't normally go to wedding at night actually (dayum all this makes me sound like I don't know the city I've been living in for the last 20+ years) but I can imagine it to be kind of annoying having to walk around there because it's even seedy during the day.

Although -while the center parts of Berlin are all really nice and safe at night- once you enter any train station after 11pm things will get spooky no matter where you are.

In fact the more popular the area the more crazy the people.

I most frequently move around Kreuzberg, (which is where I live. Not even that far from Moritzplatz.) Neukölln, Prenzlberg, Friedrichshain and Mitte and while those are all areas with super high rent and hipsters everywhere I get harassed in public transport all the time.

I heard of some guy who wanted to make Marzahn a world culture heritage. I do understand the fascination, but still could never live there.

  2. Onegai, I don't know if English is okay here as long as the topic concerns the locals?

I'll be strolling about in these parts next month, and seeing as it is my third time in Berlin I'm intending to expand my horizons from the yuppie areas to tha projects ( Marzahn and Gropiusstadt ). I don't speak a word of German so I have a couple of concerns as to how things work around thar where expats don't make up 80% of the people.

I tried to look up how long the S7 runs but I couldn't make any sense of it even when I changed the site to English pfft. Apparently is possible that they start running shorter rounds later in the nights too, skipping some stations no1curr about?

Is it okay to wander to the yards of apartment buildings ( I've done this closer to the center but you can do that central Helsinki as well, but no so much in the periphery )? Do you have those DO NOT TRESPASS signs or anything like that

And is there anything to do in Dortmund? Other than some old buildings and parks and shit that google loves, but I could hardly care less about.

So you enjoy Plattenbausiedlungen? :D That's the first time I heard anybody ever say they want to go there.

But well, they actually are one of a kind, especially Marzahn and I'll just assume you know what you want.

S7 does go there and I'm pretty sure it should be possible until late because it's huge and lots of people live there. But I'm not 100% sure as I only ever went by day and by car and only when I was forced to.

As for Gropiusstadt... I never went there but since it's in direction of Rudow you should be able to get there 24/7 because U7 goes all night.

And you can usually go anywhere you like if there's no fence. When somebody complains you can still apologize. Maaaybe don't creep around houses at night, I can imagine that people there would call the police faster than elsewhere.

You may encounter signs, too. Any variety of 'Privatgrundstück' or 'Betreten verboten' means don't enter.

'Betreten bei Schnee und Glätte auf eigene Gefahr' is very common and simply means you are allowed to enter but you can't sue them if it's winter and you fall and die.

As for the English skills... old people in those areas might really not know any English because they used to teach Russian in DDR school. But most people you encounter should understand you.

  3. Society? As in heteronormativity with pink for girls and blue for boys that has conditioned them to like it? I can't think of much else

Well yes. Maybe society is not the right English word for it, but I couldn't think of a better one.

As in the tv shows and magazines (are there still 'teen' magazines?) For this age group is full of it. And once it's established in a group like a school class everybody has to like it. At that age you are punished by your peers for liking something different from the norm. Take that plus the fact that a sense of taste has to grow (they were listening to children's music before. How could they develop a grown ass taste in music over night.) And you have a reason apart from 'they are dumb.'. (Or that it's actually good. But that would demontage your arguments altogether.)

    Whatever reason.

I still think that there is no valid excuse to spend time on bad music just to make anybody miserable. And that in this case it's so extreme it just CAN'T be about just not liking the music anymore. And that's what's irritating about it.

  4. Maybe I need to correct myself a bit.

I didn't want to point out that justin bieber or whoever actually makes quality music because I don't know. I never actually listened to the stuff I mentioned!

It's mere examples and if that guy for example really is that bad of a person on top of his music that's a reason to dislike him indeed and it was a bad example.

I just noticed that absolutely everything marketed towards female teenagers by using their 'pretty boy'-fantasies is regarded as the worst by many people and bashed in a way that's totally out of proportion. And that therefore young girls liking something already means that it's shit to many people. Or the girls are shit and not to be taken serious.

    To me that's very weird.

The things are marketed towards them. They are told to like it by society. Many end up liking it for whatever reason. They are told that they suck for liking it.

    That kind of mechanism.

  5. I have another unpopular opinion. Expect rant.

Mainstream music marketed towards pubescent girls isn't any worse than other music you don't like.

There is a whole culture (especially on the internet, but also in other media and in real life) devoted to and putting lots of time and appearently research into hating on anything made for female teenagers and it highly irritates me.

I mean solo artists like Justin Bieber or boygroups like One Direction and even certain visual kei bands. Movies like twilight and many Boys love manga belong into the same category and also get the same treatment!

Things that work because 13 year old girl's romantic and/or sexual fantasies about 'pretty boys', essentially.

There is no other demographic which is nearly as bashed as them. Not even a tiny bit.

As I'm no 13 year old girl I find no appeal in those things either but I don't have the need to judge it's fans at all. Because of my different enviroment I never get in touch with their music taste, except for people bitching about it. I don't get this: if you don't like it, don't spend time on it. Like you do with every other genre that isn't made for you but doesn't threaten you either.

I'm also not interested in things marketed towards 60+ ladys or 4 year old boys and still don't think I should spend my day with hating on it and the people who enjoy it. It's also not a common thing to do. So why do it with teenage girls?

Teenage girls freak out and scream and throw their underwear (?) during some boyband concert where it doesn't bother anyone because only other teenage girls are present?  -People declare the girls hysteric and out of their mind and the band horrible.

Grown men freak out and scream and throw beerbottles after some sports event in public where outsiders will be bothered?-

People are like 'boys will be boys' and still take the sport very serious.

I'd even go as far as to say that when some artist has many young girls as fans it kind of devalues his work to many. This is sad!
Young girls aren't all stupid. Actually many are already more mature and educated then their male counterparts.

Maybe it's because of our cultures sick obsession with young girls sexuality and that it's frightening for us to see them directing it at something we don't like...?

Either way. I just don't get this.

  6. You just gotta watch out for the Tier 1 bands that somehow manage to stay around forever despite all evidence to the contrary(See: MURASAKI, who pretty much exclusively plays Narciss and has been doing so for like 7 years now).

I'd even go as far as to put Narciss into a category of its own. (tier 0,5 or something.)

There are quite a few bands that play almost exclusively in that livehouse and it usually means that it's a band that won't ever get famous.

  7. The most ugliest Album of all ugly Albums I own is Penicillin's Limelight.

I'm a person who listens to original records a lot but this one is so tacky that I prefer to play the rip so that I don't have to see the cover... which is even more tacky in real life than in this picture because it's one of those flipping image/ hologram pictures.

    220041764.jpg

The booklet design is is just as horrid if I remember correctly.

  8. I'm determined to spark a shitstorm with my opinions sooner or later.

BABYMETAL isn't the spawn of Satan

Thank you for that unpopular opinion of yours. : D

I had no idea who they were but checked them out on youtube just now. For some reason (although I'm not into metall-riff based music normally) they totally work for me. The instrumental actually contrasts nicely with their idol image and voices. Also I think I have a girlcrush on all three of them now.

This song is so touching. ,o,

If anybody needs an English translation, I'd do it.

  10. AHHAHA RIGHT???

Idk if you listen to Hurts but theres a song called 'acapella to zenritsusen' and its a great song sound wise but apparently its about anal???

    I had no idea. XD

XD I don't know why everybody always complains about hinas lyrics. I think they are great! Sleazy music needs sleazy lyrics.

Just make sure no japanese native speaker is present and you'll be fine.

  11. Ahaha, I think you might be right.

I'm not very good at english and using 'to be dyed black' as a translation feels most natural to me. Is 'to dye black' correct english language, too?  In my native language I'd translate it that way because both versions sound natural and that one is closer to the original grammar.

edit: I just looked it up in an english-japanese dictionary and it's actually translated as "To be dyed black". But I think it simply doesn't matter as long as the meaning and original flow of the words is captured.

  12. I hope it's okay if I chime in.

Seikun is actually right with the assumption that the two verbs 黒く染まる and 降り注がれる are connected in this sentence.

That is because 黒く染まり is the continuative aspect which (among other things) can connect two sentences. So the literal translation would be:

The sky is dyed black and ashen rain pours down.

PHMK2's translation is totally okay and it doesn't really change anything but maybe like this it's better to understand the underlying grammar!

Maybe if somebody is interested here is a page on the continuative: http://www.jref.com/japan/language/renyoukei.shtml

  13. And it's annoying when people who say they love oldschool vk only know about the low budget, low talent goof kotekote bands and act like well produced major label pop VK just didn't exist in the 90's at all despite it being the kind of stuff that was actually relevant and popular at the time.

I think the reason pop bands from that era are very underrated by your typical 90s fan is because those 90s fans don't like this era because it's old but because they can find something there that they can't find today anymore. And that is usually the gothy parts.

For the most parts I think they do know what the scene back then really looked like.

Unfortunately most VK-Pop-fans aren't interested in that era because they can find good pop bands from today and don't bother to look up the old stuff and that's why lots of succesfull bands are hardly ever mentioned.

And I actually... didn't make the experience that 90s fans generally go crazy over the super obscure kind of bands. Of course that type of fan does exist. The one that always dig out the crappiest of all demotapes to feel different from everybody else.

But those fans are just part of VK fandom (and surely other fandoms, too) for every era! Even now there are people raving over that one live limited cd of that one super minor band with only 3 fans.

In fact I think that among the western fandom the most popular 90s bands are the major bands that show lots of darker colours such as Luna Sea, Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Buck Tick and Kuroyume and the borderline famous indies bands of the late 90s that could fill big halls and propably could've gone major, like Dué le Quartz, La'Mule, Aliene Ma'riage and Madeth Gray'll.

I get that Hakuei no longer wearing having flowing red hair in a pvc g-string is going to appeal to a larger audience, but that doesn't mean I have to be fucking happy about it.

...But doesn't he still wear that kind stuff?

In the newest picture I saw of hakuei he was wearing those weird underpants with spikes on his crotch and I'm pretty sure he's also still wearing his red pvc uniform. Also Chisato suddenly turned super visual over the last 3 years or so after spending the whole 90s dressed in skater fashion.

  14. Visual kei gets a bad reputation because visual kei fans can't talk music

    Yes. This. D:

Problem is I'm one of those people and feel ashamed for it. Describing music, especially in English is really, really hard for me.

I'll try and practice from now on. The oldschool-fraction's reputation I'm apearently part of is already bad enough. D :

    One more unpopular opinion:

Wataru Miyawakis voice is great. He is one of my favorite vocalists and while everybody is whining 'Recent 12012 is shitty because Wacchi sounds horrible' I actually think that his voice is (and has always been) really powerful and emotional. I think the reason why recent 12012 sucks is because the concept is boring and not original.

  15. I like those songs very much!

Just... When it comes to CELL and La'Mule songs I'm generally torn. On one side I'm happy that it's possible to hear La'Mules brilliant songs played life again as I wished for them to come back for years and never thought it would actually happen.

On the other side: it's not La'Mule without Isuke who is (to me) their heart. And now they redo and rename especially songs they made before Nao and Sin even joined, so that impression is even stronger because Kon is the only one left from the 'original' line up and well. Lepra is their first song and also the one that made them famous.

When they played it at their last live I saw that Isuke was sobbing through the whole performance and they were all like 'this is the last time we'll ever play it.'

They already broke that promise when they played it as CELL but itwould be a little more painful for me if they renamed and rerecorded it, too.

  16. I'd sell my soul to satan for Madeth Gray'll to revive.

Like Arithmetika said- Yukina and Hisui (my favorite ever vocalist) created an amazing atmosphere in their songs. Among tons of indies bands with a similar style as them they still stand alone.

Although a revival would destroy their mysterious aura I guess.

I'd also love to see any kind of La'Mule revival that involves Isuke because he was their main composer and  CELL won't ever be able to make songs like Knife, Sterilization, Curse, Berlin, Inspire... and about any other famous La'Mule number as they were all written by him.

And I'd love to see a Revival of original (as in before Shun and Giru joined) Vidoll one day, because they were perfect. There is no song from their first 3 years that I don't love to pieces and I'd give a lot to hear those songs played life again.

Well. There are a few more monsters but those are my top 3.

edit: It seems like all my favorite bands are made of a great-bassist-who-is-also-the-main-composer and charismatic-vocalist-with-unique-voice combination.

  17.

i think you mean there are not enough old school visual kei in sound. most turn to neo rock/alternative/metal something that you don't like.

but that's too personal taste/opinion. i miss old deg sound too sometimes so i get it. but i like that "nu metal" stuff too.

Of course it's a personal opinion, but that's why I'm posting it here in the thread for unpopular personal opinions. XD

And of course those bands aren't metal bands, but the influence is very strong!

This goes for almost every 'darker' visual kei band in the scene at the moment and it simply gets old. The brighter bands still get to show every colour of pop but the darker ones get more and more one-dimensional.

That's not a I want every band to sound like kuroyume in '92-problem either. You don't have to go 20 years back in time to see a more interesting palette, 5 years are enough.

  18. It seems like that opinion isn't as unpopular as I thought but I hate VK bands playing Metal.

It's not even that I dislike Metal as a genre or influence but the fact that every band does it just destroys most things I like about VK.

It takes aways the simplicity and elegance of the genre.

The heavy chords eat up the prominent basslines.

The dark growls take away that 'vullnerable' feel many VK singers voices have.

The SPEED and SKILLZ factor kills the punky garageband-feeling and most of all:

The cheesiness and poseritis of visual kei bands isn't properly balanced by the bitter and 'unskilled' post-punk sound anymore.

Metal as a music genre is just as cheesy and poseurish as VK as a style and together it's too much pathos.

    Almost like a fantasy RPG.

Also there are more than enough 'real' metal bands out there who do it properly and have singers that actually manage the screaming and growling, there is simply no need for so many VK bands suddenly trying it.

  19. Thanks for the translations X3

Very interestig concept behind Kikei's lyrics. They should really do more songs like this one, I feel it would be the right direction for the band.

    You are welcome. orz

I think the same. And not just lyrics-wise, also sound-wise it's imho their most original work.
