Witcher 3 story is pretty entertaining, but it has been a while since my last open world video game (last one was FF13), so I'm having a hard time staying focused on the storyline lol so I'm just out doing sidequests.

My motivation in that game was to get Triss in bed <3

My secondary motivation was to reunite with Ciri, she's so cool <3

But yeah, there's TOO MUCH other stuff to do, but it's all pretty entertaining, so take your time and enjoy.

I still need to buy the season pass and play the expansions. RIP spare time.

  2. Okami HD

I estimate I'm about halfway through. This is a super beautiful game and I generally like what it's doing. It's very satisfying to make the world pretty again. I LOVE feeding animals, hahahaha.

    I do have complaints though.

    - The voice acting consists of atrocious wakawakawaka sound effects, exacerbated by not being able to button past SOME dialogue. I have no idea why it's possible in some scenes but not in others. I ended up drowning out the "voices" with other music during cutscenes because they really grate on my nerves.

    - The brush controls are iffy. Sometimes I try to draw a vine and it doesn't work or it does a slash instead (especially annoying during the spider boss fight). Sometimes I try to draw "bloom" circles and it doesn't work, resulting in me drawing circles over and over and over again (while incrementally changing the camera angle) before it finally clicks. It's also moderately difficult to draw a nice circle with a PS3 analog stick...

This is free to play clicker/idle-game trash that has no business being on PS4. But it has trophies and the numbers

I haaaaate Cindy's accent... no offense to actual Southerners but that is my least favourite English accent. (and I will always be bothered by her ridiculous outfit). Noctis sounds boring and Prompto sounds annoying. Some of the other voices don't seem egregiously offensive though. Anyway, not gonna be playing with the English voices. So happy they're including dual audio.

Contemplating ditching iTunes, possibly even using an iPhone, and jumping on the SONY train once again.

You're thinking of buying a Sony phone? I guess you had good experiences with them before?

I need a new phone because my iPhone 5's battery has suddenly gone to shit (literally have to charge 2-3 times a day), and I don't want to pay $80+ to replace the battery when I'm thinking of switching to Android anyway..

Yup, I was watching the internet meltdown with great amusement when the rumour first surfaced..

South Park comes out 1 week after that. This completely ruins my schedule. I guess I'll play South Park first, surely it is the shorter game...

In other news, details about PS4's 4.00 firmware update have been released.

Yay for folders, improved library organization, ability to view trophies offline, and other UI improvements!

Never mind that this stuff should've been there from day 1.

Mia used to be the roadie for some high-profile band, didn't he? So in the very least he knows one or two chords.

.. I don't want to keep talking about MiA but

If you watch that video I posted on page 2.. *shrug* I am no expert, but it sure looks like he knows how to play guitar solos, which is way more advanced than "one or two chords". You could claim he is faking it, but those finger movements look pretty hard to fake without actually knowing what he's doing. I would not see the point in training a "guitarist" to fake-play a guitar without actually teaching him how to play a guitar.

All of those quotes reference ghostwriting, as in another person writing songs and giving the credit to band members.

I was asking about the claim made by the bangyaru in the Cracked interview, which was band members not being able to play their own instruments. I assumed this is what you meant when you said "ghost musicians", as in another person playing the instruments while the band only pretends to play.

Well, there's a way you can interpret "He’d pick up a guitar, record the part, and then the band would come in and listen to it and learn it that way. " to mean that this guy recorded the parts used in the final recording, but it still says the band would "learn" it, which implies they can play it.

Anyway... I went through the stages of grief while writing my previous post and have now accepted that, whether or not the bangyaru's claim is true, it doesn't really matter to me.

  8. Re: walking speed, there is a way to move faster

I view No Man's Sky as kind of an existential thing. "Art" if you will. You're meant to feel very alone in a vast universe. Having multiplayer in the traditional sense would completely destroy that feeling.

Whether or not it's a "good game" is completely up to the player's tastes. It's good if you find survival games fun. If you like exploring for the sake of exploring. If you'd like to spend hours drifting around, not knowing if the next planet you visit will be a shithole or some kind of prehistoric utopia. If you're interested in seeing the benefits and limitations of random generation. If you like the idea of discovering something no one else has seen before, and being able to name it something stupid. If you want to explore alone and not worry about some troll following you around and killing you repeatedly with their superior gun. etc etc

If you don't find any of that compelling, yes, you will get bored of it quickly.

I do believe the game is not complete right now. It has crashing problems on PS4, and runs poorly on some PCs. Keep in mind that the developers were not even able to hire a QA support team until they got money from day one sales. They are supposed to be adding "base building" in an undated future update, which sounds like it could be a major feature. Hopefully by the time I get around to playing it, it will be much improved from its current state.

The rumors about bands with ghost writers / musicians have been circulating for literally years.

I actually read that specific interview maybe 4-5 years ago, and that's exactly where I first heard of the ghostwriting stuff. (in fact, it might be the ONLY article/interview about the VK industry I've ever read)

Unless I missed something, because I skimmed parts of it, I didn't see anything there that mentions ghost musicians, which is what I've been asking about in this thread.  It did say that typical band members start out as teenage dropouts who want to be rock stars and "want to learn to play guitar", which implies that they are being taught to play their instruments. Maybe.

... I suppose I could believe that other people are playing instruments during studio recordings, and the actual band only plays during lives (or mostly dances during lives), which is why lives can sound shitty, which is why I usually ignore the existence of lives.

In any case, no one's shown me any concrete proof of it, but I suppose it doesn't really matter to me. I like the studio recordings and the photoshopped images, no matter how "fake" they are. I'm not interested in going to lives, I'm not into meeting band members, and I'm certainly not into stalking them, sending them money, or sucking their dicks.

... ?? Yes, I know you really hate Mejibray.

I just wanted to point out that, at the very least, MiA appears to be able to play a guitar. Whether or not you think he's good at it is another matter entirely.

I can play a piano. I learned piano for years and years with a bad teacher who didn't train me very well. I do not have a creative bone in my body and cannot write music or improvise, but I can read sheet music. If I was forced to practice it and play it for a living, I could probably perform well enough to impress untrained listeners.

    Have you heard of mejibray?

    lol

<-- Mejibray's drummer is literally my avatar.

    I know you're joking but

I'm reasonably convinced that Mejibray can play instruments, even if you don't like the sounds that they produce

this is the first thing that popped up on youtube

I mean, I guess you could get all conspiracy theorist and say "what if he's just air guitaring"..

Anyway my problems with Mejibray have more to do with the vocals and the usually-bland songwriting.

Speaking of songwriting, I have heard accusations that most VK bands don't actually write their own music/lyrics. That's a more believable accusation than "they don't know how to play their instruments".

So, to anyone who's playing No Man's Sky. Is the game actually good or just nothing more than a hype? Be honest here.

I'm not actually playing it, but I have read a good amount of discussion about the game.

In summary, it's good if you like this sort of game.
You will wander, alone, around an infinite number of randomly-generated planets/star systems/galaxies, gather materials to upgrade & fuel your ship, investigate points of interest (which could advance a "story"), make friends or enemies with alien races, find weird plants/animals/environments, and occasionally engage in a spaceship battle. If this sounds awesome to you, you will love the game.

If you are expecting any amount of multiplayer interaction, elaborate trading/crafting/building systems, amazing first person shooter combat, etc THIS IS NOT THE GAME FOR YOU and you will hate it and you will bitch and complain about how it's not what it was advertised to be even though most of that was just people projecting their hopes and dreams for a be-all-end-all space simulation onto a game made by 15 people.

  12. I actually read this article earlier today because @YuyoDriftmentioned bangya to me and I felt like googling about them.

    Quote

Some literally don't even know how to play their instruments because they don't have to.

    Is this actually true?

The only band that does this, that I've heard of, is Golden Bomber. But I don't exactly go out of my way to read interviews and articles and .. tanuki stuff..

  13. These gifs/videos make me infinitely more interested in No Man's Sky..

The only things stopping me are

    a. first-person point of view

    b. $80 price tag in Canada

    c. no time to play

It's definitely something I'd try out for $20-30 tho.

I'd name every planet and creature with PEFF somewhere in the name so you KNOW I was there.

  14. lol

    here, have a rough translation.

    "This is Issei of BugLug.

Sorry for making everyone worry about me.

I don't remember anything about the accident, but somehow I am still living.

I want to sing again at ASOVIVA so please give me a little more time.

No matter what happens, I will return.

    Thank you."

  15. ^ The only band I ever even HEARD of is THE BACK HORN. I remember checking them out when I was first getting into Japanese music. Can't say I liked them very much, haha.

I listened to that LOW-PASS song on Youtube, sounds pretty cool but I really prefer music with vocals.

Here's my shuffle (using my ENTIRE iTunes library)

01 NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST - Rise above

02 ACO - 真正ロマンティシスト (Shinsei Romanticist)

    03 ゴールデンボンバー (Golden Bomber) - Please!×3

04 中島卓偉 (Nakajima Takui) - さらけだす (Sarakedasu)

    05 JASMINE - #AGARU

06 ALI PROJECT - LOST CHILD

07 畠山美由紀 (Hatakeyama Miyuki) - Dream a little dream of me

    08 Jay-Z - Streets is Watching

    09 己龍 (Kiryu) - 蹲 (Tsukubai)

10 三浦大知 (Miura Daichi) - Super Star

Man, this is a pretty tough call. I SUUUPER love those 3 highlighted songs. It's a surprisingly good mix, considering it was shuffling ~20000 songs...

(lol @ surprise 90s Jay-Z appearing in between all the Japanese stuff)

Ended up disqualifying JASMINE because of her usage of a hashtag in the title T_T but it's a really good pop/dance song.

Tsukubai is one of my all-time fave Kiryu songs, but Kiryu is really popular in this forum so I went with the one people would be less familiar with... ACO.

I LOVE this period of ACO's career. Her genres went like.. pop/soul -> trip-hop -> Bjorkish -> mellow stuff? adult contemporary? acoustic pop? i dunno

Shinsei Romanticist is from the trip-hop period, and is one of the best examples of her ethereal voice and wide range.

  16.

This footage is from Berseria's demo (now available on Japanese PSN)

They SOMEHOW managed to fuck up the battles even worse than Zestiria's camera issues. Hopefully this is fixed in the full game...

...aside from this hilarious mess, I've seen mostly positive impressions of the combat and characters (along with complaints about the graphics looking exactly like Zestiria but with better framerate). That hoverboard thing looks cool. I'll try out the demo during the weekend.

    EDIT

Had a block of spare time so I played the demo just now.

Didn't manage to get a glitchy battle stage like in the video.

I'm actually rather impressed. The characters seem amusing, so far. I actually LOL'ed once. Battles and exploration seem way more fun than Zestiria. Skits are more dynamic than before (more like a comic, where it frequently swaps to different "panels") and it really adds life to them. The hoverboard thing is super cool, you seamlessly jump on/off it by holding down/releasing R2, and it's such a relief to be able to zoom around quickly after the Windstepping BS in Zestiria. The game seems to look a lot nicer than Zestiria probably due to the 60fps.

I MIGHT ACTUALLY drop the cash to get this day one...

    WTF English?

    I googled this for you.

    You may find this interesting

    http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/38606/what-gave-terrific-a-positive-connotation

    tl;dr

It is similar to how words like bad, sick, or wicked have a positive connotation in modern slang usage. But in the case of terrific, it happened in the late 1800s and the "slang" meaning eventually became the default definition. If you read older literature you can still see original uses of the word, such as "a terrific headache" or "a terrific roar".

  18. I've seen mostly negative opinions of We Happy Few so far.

Mostly because the gameplay is "nothing like the trailer suggested". It's actually one of those survival games where you have to constantly worry about hunger/thirst/sleep.

Granted, it's currently in alpha (early access I guess) with zero story content, so I understand why people are put off by it right now.

(personally, it is not at all the kind of game I would enjoy)

I think I know how to "finish" it in two minutes. Saw it in a gameplay video.

    -very minor early spoilers-

    Spoiler

At the very beginning of the game, you have a choice of whether or not to take your Joy pills. If you take the pills, the game ends. If you don't take the pills, you proceed with the rest of the game.

So yeah, you're not really "finishing" the game.

As for Lost Soul Aside.. I think the blue.. sword trails?... are way too intense. WAY too intense. It obscures half the screen.

But, this is also not really my kind of game. (though I have played or bought similar games)
