As the title suggests, what are some artists you wish had alter-ego groups? As well as that
What genre of music would they play? What would their name be? Would members swap instruments? Would it even have all the same members?
My first pick would be 'Develop One's Faculties' under the guise of 'Undeveloped Facilities'. They would play a pretty raw and heavy mix of punk/metal, I'd keep the members the same given Yuuya knows how to shout/scream decently and Johannes is one hell of a drummer

    Hey guys,

I'm moving to a different country, and I can't take most of my VK collection, even though I spent many years & money acquiring them. So I'd rather give away a bunch of these stuff for cheap to people who care about VK than throw them away. I live in New York  right now (leaving September 1). If you're in the area and want to come pick up some stuff, just let me know. If you live somewhere else, tell me which stuff you want, how much you want to pay for them, how you want them shipped, and please pay for the shipping. PM me if you're interested. I'm really giving these away for any price you're willing to pay.

I have cocklobin merch (A LOT of them), Sugar, Time Section, dummy-xD, amber gris, Moran, Merry, Plastic Tree (book), and a bunch of magazines. Also some manga if you want them. Sorry, I can't list them in details since I'm kind of in a hurry to move.

The opposite of the other thread
    Not just for jrock
This was really long ago, but I used to really like Bright Eyes, but at some point it just started to sound pretentious to me
Alkaline Trio - it's more like, as they go on, one of the songwriters' stuff just sound more and more forced and recycled
Elliott Smith - I got into the wave of depression, but after I got out of it, musically speaking, I realized I don't like his compositions
Blink-182 - lol, middle school, but their stuff all sound the same, and just too ridiculously simple
Suga Shikao - well, it's not that I dislike him now, but his new stuff aren't half as funky as his old ones (although he also recycled a lot of stuff). I listened to him all the time when I was on my "not listening to obscure rock music because it's 'bad' for me" phase.
But lately I've been rediscovering a lot of bands that I stopped listening to years ago, so maybe I might end up liking them again
how about the rest of you?

But I do appreciate the James Brown CD that my mom listened to a lot in the car. I'm like, "DAT INTRO" and "DAT BASS LINE". Yeah.

I've decided to start translating (and converting to romaji) all of amber gris lyrics for their releases that I have (that is, all except Shoujo no Cuore. But if you have the kanji lyrics for that single and willing to provide me with it, I'll happily translate it too). Er, I'm just really in love with Temari's lyrics XD . Sorry if someone has done this before without my knowing, it's just that I couldn't find any translation online, that's why I'm doing it. Also, if you notice any mistakes, please do tell me
So far I've done 1, which is "Giniro no Coffin" (from single 「上空8??????ft??少年??天国??届?????????)

The thing about many western vk fans is that they are rather opinionated about not only "western vk", but western music in general. Yes, many western vk bands also happen to be very mediocre and unorginal at best, but there are many equally mediocre and unorginal japanese vk bands that get a lot more praise and hype. But if you cater to a fandom that often enough very specifically turned their backs on "western music" then obviously you are fighing an uphill battle, even if you try to "disguise" your music as japanese (and probably badly so). It's like trying to sell vegetable-shaped steaks to a bunch of vegetarians.

A western vk band, with decent talent and equipment would probably be more succesful if they just target the "normal" western underground goth scene.

^ you might be overreacting there a little.

And I read the link you posted and I'll have to disagree with you on the reason western vk bands fail. It's not because of how the Japanese music industry works. I don't know how authentic that interview is you posted, but even if everything in it was 100% true, which I'm sure isn't, it wouldn't explain why western vk bands don't work out.

Vk western bands not working out is not due to the connections to business people they lack, access to studios, producers, marketing or because they don't have a pimp label to get them out there. It's because of the reasons people have already mentioned here. They're young, inexperienced, sing in Japanese, don't know to dress VK, and lack any originality, basically knocking off bands like the gazette. When you can't sing/play your instrument properly, have a unpleasant image, don't appeal to your native speaking audience, and are a near carbon copy of some foreign band, how can you not expect disastrous results?

Added to this is the fact that most western vk bands will further comes across as trying to hard or "weebos" to people who are familiar with the Japanese music scene and do low budget production studio recordings or cheaply made music videos. Plus if they only listen to horrible indie vk bands, then how can you expect something good to come out?

When you put out subpar or crappy music regardless of what genre you play (vk or not), you better expect to have people call you on it and be prepared for all the criticism.

I'm not saying it's impossible for there to be a good western vk band, it's just no one has done it properly. You would need people who know their instruments, have some basic knowledge of theory and composition, actually write lyrics in their native tongue and have a good sense of how to dress. And they would also have have to some originality and not just sound like X vk band. I know bands/musician who listen to j-music in general and are inspired by it, but they don't blatantly rip off the sound/image of another band. They do their own thing in their own original band/project.

So far, I only know of 2 western vk bands that actually are decent. And the reason they more or less have succeeded where others have failed is because they avoided the common pitafils other western vk bands have fallen into.

Awww man! I really wish I had something to post about my former band! XD But we sucked so much that the band only lives on in memories, ancient social media profiles, and a handful of pictures from practice/meetings (and, I think, one silent video). Now imagine THAT level of suckage for a band!!!

So this is an EXTREMELY belated introdution! I've decided to be more active on this forum (hopefully) but all you guys seem cool and awesome and I get intimidated easily, also i'm not the best at describing music when I want to introduce others to it, so I tend to keep quiet because you guys are so much better at it! >< so you may see me lurking around on the chat occasionally, most likely being that one person who never seems to know what's going on and having to repeatedly ask and be awkward
I did come at first mostly because of the downloads section and I would love to upload stuff BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE MONEY GUYS hopefully a time will come when I can actually upload my own stuff and not just be a notorious leecher -sigh-

Anyway onto music, I don't really have any bands that I stick to religiously as music tends to reflect my mood a lot/ or reflects what I want my mood to be/ I just like finding new bands so I become obsessed with them for really brief periods of time and then find something else. Or maybe that's just because MH introduces me to so much good music I just want to listen to all of it...
Either way, a few bands that i've been listening to recently are
Plastic Tree amber gris Janne Da Arc Dir en Grey NightingeiL Alice Nine cocklobin D DELUHI Not sticking to VK i've been listening to
Kuroki Nagisa (due to MH THANKS GUYS!!!) school food punishment Asako Nasu Kenshi Yonezu GYZE Just in case you're interested, some English bands i've been listening to recently
Northlane The Antlers Rishloo La Dispute Ne Obliviscaris Lydia I listen to a fairly wide variety of music and it tends to change up a lot, I also have a tendency to ramble on a lot, excuse the ridiculously long post and lists, so i'm just going to stop here and I hope I can pluck up the courage to get to know some of you guys better

Constantly stuck between wanting to be REALLY good at something and wanting to be good at ALL the things, but then the logical side of your brain takes over like 'yooooouuuu....suck. And are not being realistic in the slightest and go master one of your interests and become FUCKING AWESOME AT IT.'
Then the short attention span kicks in... 'NEW SHINY THING OVER THERE! GO. TO. THE SHINY.'

    No prob,

What I try to do is make the lead guitar not sound similar, but have similar notes in it. That way, you can make lots of different melodies, but still have it sound as if the rythm and lead actually belong together (hope that makes sense).

I could upload one of my songs sometime, so you could see what I mean.

I think your rhythms sound fine—I actually like that aspect of it.

The main problem that I hear is that your guitar is out of tune (or maybe you're just playing a few really strange chords). There are also the occasional notes in the lead guitar, towards the beginning especially, that sound like they are in a different key than the majority of the melody. It sort of starts to work after awhile because it sounds like you're playing in some sort of jazz mode, but it's rather jarring.

It's really difficult to give any concrete advice on this, but the most crucial thing I would say is "less is more." There's a lot going on in some of these parts, and it makes it difficult to focus on any one thing in particular. I wish I could be a little more direct, but hopefully someone else can be more helpful.

Yeah the weird guitar intro has been addressed, other than that the mix could be improved. Drums could have slightly been more prevalent and perhaps try to pan your lead to the left instead of the right. It's fine the way it is, but it threw me off, since I usually pan lead guitar left like everyone else does. Although that's just personal preference. You could also experiment with having some leads in the center. You don't have vocals so it would be easy since most of the instruments in the center are bass and low mids and the guitar could easily fit into the unused higher frequency range.

Maybe the rhythm would have sounded better without the chorus or flanger effect on it? Just some nice clean rhythms with some delay or reverb to taste. Or perhaps you tried that and it it didn't sound good? You could always do another take of the rhythm but with a clean guitar and then mix that behind the rhythm guitar with the effects and you'll get the chorus/flanged guitar with the sparkle and more defined attack of the clean guitar.

I did really enjoy the bass playing on this track.

Your bass playing is really good, or at least what you've composed on it is pretty good, it's funky but doesn't distract you from the song too much and the song itself is good, everyones posted about the few off notes so I won't go into that
but I think the general mixing of it could be improved, the guitars tend to overpower the drums in some parts and speaking of the drums, whilst this might be down to the mixing, I think they could do with a bit more power, the snare and kick sound a bit empty
So all in all a good song with some nice parts, I'm sure with a bit of tweaking it could be great
