And, I'm quite happy with final selection as I personally voted for 5 or 6 of those tracks myself. I'm surprised fukai mori and mou 2doto came up at the top as those are some of my favorites after sleep.

  2. Isn't the resilience of CD sales there tied to the fetishism of physical objects? Heck, it's why Vinyl is making a comeback elsewhere in the world. People want to value music beyond the simple files that they exist in on a harddrive.

And bands should embrace bandcamp or direct sales. It's easy to host files or using file sharing services to distribute. However all of the stores, labels and whatever other middlemen probably wouldn't like that much.

@carddass: Throwing this out there in case it might let you discover another name in jpop/jrock..."Senaka Made Yonjuugo-fun" was written for Kenji "Julie" Sawada (whom Kiyoharu admires) by Yosui. Even though Yosui wrote it -- and maybe released his recording first? -- it's typically regarded as Sawada's because of that background. If you're not already familiar with Julie's work, you're in for a colorful and sometimes very strange ride, especially when it comes to live performances, as the man might count as some sort of proto-visual-kei at some points in his career, honestly.

Anyway, a release date has been revealed for the album -- it's marked for June 26, 2019 -- and it's stated to include 12 tracks in total. It's going to be released in two versions; a standard edition (2,778 yen), and a limited edition (4,630 yen), which includes a DVD containing a PV for "Boukyaku no Sora", plus short PVs for 8 other songs. The full tracklist hasn't been revealed yet, so the remaining 11 songs outside his self-cover of "Boukyaku" are still unknown right now. And so far, the album is just being called "Covers".

And I have no info on this part of stuff, but I'm pretty curious (and surprised,) about that autobiography.

Didn't know it was meant as a Julie song first. I actually grabbed the album Miscast with Senaka made... a while back but never gave the whole thing a proper listen.
Jumping around on youtube, I've heard Sawada's 70s output which sounds very 70s-ish to my ears. Senaka made... feels like a detour from his earlier style. I'll have to check him out some more. Thanks for the heads-up!

  4. ZZZoo is a super-group comprising of members from indie bands such as Z.O.A., Zeni geva, dip, Redrum, and Bacteria.
Their first album was just released on bandcamp after having been only available with a download code when buying a t-shirt at their concert.

This is definitely an album for fans of space-and-krautrock circa the 60s and 70s.
Here are the liner notes from the bandcamp page:

    HUMAN ZZZoo

    HUMAN ZZZoo
Human zoos, also called ethnological expositions, were 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century public exhibitions of humans, usually in a so-called natural or primitive state.
It became of theme for this album...maybe lol

  6. Wow, I might have to order Image and Eden in hopes that they actually properly remastered them to sound good.
Those first albums Luna Sea-Image-Eden were so poorly mixed and mastered that the sound quality between them and Mother is like night and day.

For the best comparison, check out Believe from Luna Sea's Singles compilation and then listen to the Eden version.

But why? How did Yoshiki score this gig? Is he that desperate to do anything except the xjapan album

Sadly, I think his 25+ years of trawling / living in Hollywood has warped his career.
It's been all about these shitty B- and C- productions for years now. I mean despite some basic conversations between Toshi and Yoshiki, a horror movie, Saw IV, tangentially gave them the reason to come back for good.

Surely for every one of these project we see him work on, there's been 20 times as many parties, events, and meetings that he attended to hob-knob with various producers and socialites in the Los Angeles scene.

He has long enjoyed doing this than actually spending time alone composing and refining music with X Japan. A quick Getty Image search will show you exactly what he's doing despite the occasional "I've been working 24 hours straight" Instagram post to troll the fans into telling him "Take care of yourself Yoshiki-sama!"

    https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/yoshiki?groupbyevent=true&family=editorial&phrase=yoshiki&sort=best#license

Hence we will have the XXX4 soundtrack before the new album ever materializes.

  8. I've actually been quite a fan of his covers over the years and discovered some jpop gems I would have otherwise never have known about. This album could be interesting if he goes for older classics rather than something recent.

His cover of Inoue Yosui's Senaka made 45fun on the Emily EP is syrupy goodness that was a complete 180° turn to hear compared to what he was just doing months earlier when SADS paused the first time around.

    Yup, looks like it. :)

    From their main page:

"OVERSEAS MAIL ORDER (International ePacket shipping ONLY)
    Please send an email to
(( email address written on the main page ))
(subject="overseas mail order") 1. names of products and quantity / 2.your name / 3.shipping address / 4.phone number / 5.PayPal account mail address ARE REQUIRED"

Thanks, I totally missed that while looking through the page!
Now i just have to figure out whether or not to by some god and death stars stuff too

  10. A buying/shopping service should have no problem obtaining if the only catch is that it is mail order in Japan only.

As Jigsaw says, at least it's being released instead of just being seen by a few hundred or thousand people at the concert.

The question is - will they try to keep the setlist in its entirety or will it be some sort of a chopped up digest version of it leaving you wanting more?

  11. After 8 years of dormancy, Gastunk had a comeback one-man live on March 24th 2018 performing classics from all of their albums and singles and in particular the track 'Shout' from their self-titled EP which hasn't been performed since the mid 80s.

yes I'm gonna keep this one-person hype train rolling. ;(((

I'm here again and super excited about this release!
I was expecting a full length too. They've got enough songs for another album or two already.
And despite cheaper recording methods (home studios, DAWs, etc) most bands can have at their disposal, they really want to give this release their proper due with the art and that probably affected the amount of tracks they could record. If you reduced that 32 page booklet down to a 1 page double side fold-out could've gotten us maybe a song or two more on that album.

That said, I'm really going to have to buy my copy from Disk Union for the extra!
