chemicalpictures got a reaction from RickBuch in the GazettE new album, "NINTH" release
Ganges is a good song, imo. One of the few jazzy songs I'd listen here and there. But It made me take a closer look on their disco, and it made me see that NINTH is probably not gonna be for me.

Disorder to NIL to STACKED RUBBISH is the clear transition of a sucessful indie vk band to a mainstream angry-teenage pleaser sound. Then they drop DIM, which is a much more mature venture than everything they've done before, and still is their peak for a lot of people.

Then they release the shitstain that is TOXIC, FILLED with tracks for that teenager above that thought DIM was too heavy, gets barely listenable in one of the sides of DIVISION and keep up with the mediocrity in BEAUTIFUL DEFORMITY. And out of nowhere they blow several people's minds with DOGMA.

There's a pattern there, it's like they keep going for a cycle of trying to appease the masses between conceptual works. The same way I think TOXIC is more conceptually closer to STACKED RUBBISH than it is to DIM, I believe NINTH will be more akin to BEAUTIFUL DEFORMITY than DOGMA. which is SAD AS FUCK.

Say what you wanna about DOGMA, but this song doesn't come anywhere near OMINOUS

by the way, I always get so confused when people mention DOGMA. Are they talking about the song DOGMA, or the album as a whole? because I do agree it has some weak tracks here and there, but the song DOGMA, composition-wise, is miles ahead most of the shit they release. Hell, most of the shit VK has produced in the decade. The way the verse, bridge and chorus are structured there is very very clever. the whole dark age project, despite its lows, is the most concise shit I've seen in a mainstream band in a good while

Definitely! I've always gave that song way too many credit, as I'm sure european industrial metal has probably done several times before, but speaking of VK, I couldn't find a similar example anywhere (maaaaybe HEROINE'S 夏秋 share similarities in the way I explain below, but I could be wrong. great song, tho.)

I'd say it's an ABABC structure, but that's kinda simplified. you could stretch it to include pre-chorus, or even not count the chorus as a proper chorus at all, if you take in the idea that the song could be considered of a second intro of the album, or half intro/half song (the way it paves the way and mood to RAGE), if you know what I mean, I think it could be a lot more nuanced. but I'm getting carried away lol, sorry. I do love discussing stuff like this, would love to hear more thoughts!

Dogma, the song, is fucking brilliant in how it’s composed. It’s always moving forward and doesn’t follow the standard song structure. I think maybe one early riff gets repeated in a later section? I’d definitely take more songs like Dogma and Undying from these guys.

    Hey y'all!

I've been wondering if any of you have one or have the desire of doing a tattoo inspired by a band or song. Few months ago I did my first one, inspired by FAKE?'s THE LOST GENERATION album cover:

I gave the tattoo artist the liberty to modify the tattoo to better fit his style art and the position I wanted on my arm, aswell as doing an exclusive art. Overall I'm really pleased with the result,  it looks really unique.

I still want to do another two, based on xTRiPx and bis more minimalistic logos:

I also wanna give them a more unique feel, but this time being way more faithful to the original art. Planning on doing each one in one calf.

What about you guys, any tattoos or ideas for the future?

The vocalist is a brazilian dude that has a really unknown gameplay channel, and released a video explaining that he was a fan of Mejibray and one day asked MiA to have dinner with him, he accepted, they somewhat became friends and that's the story.

Surprised nobody is talking about this, or have I missed something?

chemicalpictures got a reaction from Reiko in How come Mejibray are more popular than a lot of VK bands from this decade?
Because they are slightly better than the average musicians, their live performances were honestly interesting, their compositions had somewhat of a signature... there are several reasons, including the one that they didn't suck as much as people want to imply. It's nice to make fun of what teenagers enjoy, specially when you've been around for 10+ years and have seen all kinds of trends going up and down, but that's just us old people being old. And that doesn't take away the fact that meji was a solid band all around...

I'm sorry, but shouldn't that be the other way around?  how come in a BAND music is "important" and the looks are "integral"? We'd be in a very sad place if people could somewhat forgive bad music if it came from nicely dressed boys...

And I don't see any contradiction at all. Some people are here (japanese music in general, with VK going for a more specific rock vein) for the composition styles, unique time signatures, different scales and etc. A lot of times VK is a thing of its own, musically speaking. IMO that's what should attract people, in an ideal world looks would be a plus. But I'd have to agree with you that it is what keeps band floating, sucking on the wallets of socially awkward fans who pays shit ton of money to spend some time with them (which is such an abusive practice I can't fathom why people don't stand up against it).

In any way, visuals are somewhat of a gamble. You are either doubling down on the weirdness and hoping on cashing on the hardcore fans, or you get popular enough to ditch the hard looks and appeal to more casual masses. And I bet most of them would go clean in a heartbeat, if that meant a more sustainable band career
