I would wear hakama over my casual attire on weekends out, doing grocery, or when I travel for leisure. I understand this style is even more popular now after some characters from Demon Slayers Kimetsu No Yaiba wear some distinct patterned haori. However, I have been doing it before this series even a thing. It is just comfy to me, cos the fabric for this usually is not too thick, I can still wear it for fashion even when it hot outside. And it still look somewhat acceptable for semi casual places and stylish. Something that zipped hoodie or varsity jackets cannot provide.

    This one:

Other than this, I like punk/industrial metal goth style. You know, leather, sharp studs, high platform boots. For that reason, I really enjoy DEG fashion circa early 2000-2005. I rarely wear this stuffs anymore as I barely visits any clubs with that kind of community anymore. The only time I wear this style is when the weather gets cooler by the end of the year.

after buying music I prefer to play via spotify anyway, because of playing also gives an artist little money.... even if it takes 1000 of plays.. takes hours but well. o.o

but selling via tunecore isn't cheap too... you gotta need some good sales to earn the cost money back 😅
however sometimes they have cheaper or free offers for a limited period.

to harp a little back on what was being discussed earlier, and now that yung shapiro has passed away, god rest his soul, I think we can actually breach these subjects here in moderation and good taste and that anyone with even half a brain should be able to discern where that line is being laid.

the statues, especially the confederate ones, really are transparent efforts at a certain class of people flexing their power and bringing the fear of god into the hearts of those without that power, and they're completely void of any real artistic merit being hopelessly dated even back when they were set up. even storing them in a museum would just deprive the pidgeons a good bronze forehead to shit on. also somehow despite the fact that all the soviet monuments and memories ( sans world war 2 ) were taken down in Ukraine now like five years ago, Lenin still lives on in historical memory and research and studies go on unabated.

there's only one threat facing the academia and that is not the libs, commies or antifa super soldiers tearing down corny statues that no one with any taste and erudition would set up even in their backyards but our governments savagely cutting the funding of humanities all across the world in favor of technical studies, engineering and whatever. I don't know what all of those are in english but you know exactly what I'm talking about. I get beyond triggered when I see disingenuous people who have nothing to do with academia, who've never read a real academic work in their lives or done any genuine academic research talk about the academia as if they have a clue what they're talking about, like they've been a fly on the wall for years just because a since irrelevant carnivore diet snake oil crank Peterson who was DESTROYED AND WRECKED by Zizek made a bunch of videos on the Youtubes. All the wacky feminist and poc studies have only benefitted the field in bringing all these new perspectives and active research since older, " classic" studies sometimes doesn't get null'd even when proved inaccurate ( especially in a small language like Finnish.) The damage done to Universities in Finland in the past 10 years had nothing to do with people toppling statues, but with the lizard in suits to whom civilisation amounts to the Angry Birds amusement park and Nokia's Ngage.

LoU2 - I can't believe the amount of people calling Abby a man just because she's jacked. Gamers are so used to questionable design choices fo female characters with bazooka tits that anyone who doesn't fit that stereotype is automatically a man? I'm butt hurt cuz muscly women deserve more love and also Abby is not only eye candy, I just really enjoyed her character.

Also, if you wanna talk about "progress". This is just a drop in the bucket:

There's been no true progress. We've just been riding a carousel of deceit, deflection, and pacification for the last 400 years.

I don't want to shame you for disagreeing, but we are not an early society by any measure, we are also capable of reflecting and judging what we want to translate in public through architecture and monuments.

there're examples of how similar "problematic" historic actors and visuals were handled dating to 70 years ago -
    https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/08/20/why-there-are-no-nazi-statues-in-germany-215510
and there's also shit like this:

there are places for those statues to be kept, exhibited publicly, and preserved, but the question of their presence in open air in a heating social climate that canonically prioritizes WASP dominance over anything else is open.

beloved everyone knew they were shit people back in the day, there're no sudden post-factum epiphanies and rewriting very well documented history. they were put on that pedestal with all around complete and sober awareness of how shitty they were.

political power does not ask for public approval to celebrate itself.

Gackt's Vanilla PV borrowed part of the aesthetic, even though you can still see the 90's here and there.

I feel like Tonight PV by Luna Sea would have liked to use the aesthetic too (at least for the parts with the band playing inside the "futuristic" room) but the director/post production didn't received the memo (they didn't even put the omnipresent cold blue filter).

OT: For the ones that don't know whats Y2K aesthetic is, basically the 2 biggest cultural spreader (and large scale influencer?) were Matrix and Bjork "All is full of love video" video, if my memory doesn't fail me. Good to know it has a name now, at that time I liked to call it the "aseptic futurism"

Recently, I've been getting more interested in the Y2K aesthetic. For those who don't know, the Y2K aesthetic is a collective term for the sleek futurism of the late 90's and early 2000's that manifested itself in music videos, fashion, and technology.
As Aesthetic Wiki puts it, "Y2K is an aesthetic that was most prevalent from roughly 1998 to 2003. Y2K aesthetics are often characterized by a distinct aesthetic period, encapsulating fashion, hardware design, music and furnishings shiny with tech optimism – sometimes literally. According to the Y2K Institute, some of Y2K's aspects include, tight leather pants, silver eye-shadow, shiny clothing, Oakleys, gradients, and Blobjects and Blobitecture. Most of Y2K aesthetics rely on the use of technology and slick futuristic looks, signaling the optimism a new era as people approached the millennium".

This thread is to discuss the use of the Y2K aesthetic in Visual Kei.
One of my favourite examples is the iconic music video for Yokan by Dir en Grey. This pretty much speaks for itself
And while this is definitely past the era of Y2K, the music video for Mikansei to GUILT by Phantasmagoria is definitely influenced by Y2k futurism.

The staff has seen this topic and have decided to let it stay open. For now.

Visual kei has taken inspiration from Nazi-era symbolism time and time again, for better or for worse. To ignore that would be feigning ignorance. We see no harm in simple discussion of the bands and the (very small) scene related to that. We have had similar topics in the past with no repercussions. However, the current era and political climate is a different story. Discussion on this topic may or may not be possible.

We will end up locking this topic if it proves to be a breeding ground for incels on the forum.
