Where in the fresh hell did they go?

One of my absolute favorite aspects of exploring niche genres is stumbling upon some random compilation albums featuring bands that maybe released only a couple songs total in their entire life span. It's pretty much the easiest way to stumble upon both the true hidden gems within a genre and the absolute worst it has to offer, sometimes right next to each other. Speaking broadly, the psychedelic, (post-)punk, industrial and minimal synth scenes all have a tremendous number of absolutely great v/a albums catering to different niches and local scenes, with new ones coming out even to this day.
I remember from my early days in the VK scene back in the mid-2000s is that it felt like there was always some  compilation album or split cd coming out every few month or so. Many of them seem to have been tied to magazines, live venues or live events, but there were also the occasional tribute albums here and there, as well as crossovers that seemed to be done just for the hell of it. Some of those compilations were absolute fucking bangers too (never forget those Tokyo Guerilla ones my dudes........)
Sadly it kinda feels like over the past decade the stream of v/a albums just kind of dried up. I can't really remember any notable ones being released that WEREN'T tribute albums for instance. Part of me wants to blame this lack of non-tribute compilations on the fact that streaming and downloading music is so much easier these days than back in the day, and as such the need for these officially sanctioned mixtapes to create exposure just isn't as high as it used to be, and I'm sure the fact that several VK publications and live venues have bitten the dust in the past couple of years must have a role in it as well.
I'm just left here hoping that maybe some day some OG VK nerd will step it up and create the weeb counterpart to those 'Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era' comps

tl;dr: this thread is dedicated to v/a albums, both ones connected specifically to the vk scene and japanese music in general. what are some of your favorites? which ones were absolute godawful abominations in your eyes? where did all the compilation albums go?

SakuraFox512 reacted to Himeaimichu in Worst case of toxicity you’ve experienced in the VK fandom?
I actually had a Mamo stan from Japan harass me on facebook before, because I made a partially joking (but also partially serious) post about Mamo being a Kusomen in a Vkei group I'm in. I posted the screenshot to my FB to see if anyone knew who she was, and this dude who was a somewhat popular Western Vkei musician (not gonna say any names publicly) actually ratted me out to them and she continued to harass me even more (gladly I blocked her). She even try strawmanning Ai from Gulu Gulu and talked down to me like I was some newbie fan lol.
Funny enough, she didn't deny Mamo's shitty behavior, but actually tried to defend it by saying that my favourite bandmen (who I doubt she even knows) isn't a good person either. Like, even if Ai was a kusomen, that doesn't mean I have to turn a blind eye to shitty behavior. Like, yes, I know Mamo ain't the only one, but for fuck's sake I was just shit posting in a shit posting group

Also, a lot of western visual kei fans don’t speak/read Japanese, so they don’t know what’s happening in the Japanese part of the fandom at all. So if all these fans are only interacting with other western fans, then you’re only going to hear about problems with western fans.

no pictures is bullshit and fuck any band who tries to enforce that in foreign lands.

take those mothefuckers out of the damn pedestal. In japan they can do as they please, it's their culture and any tourist should follow the locals. Now the snowflakes expect people from another country, a whole another concert culture to abide by their arbitrary rules on a concert they paid some expensive AF ticket to be there, just to not be able to take a picture, or record a personal video, because the band said so? yeah, right.

This is business. They do overseas concerts because they have something to gain, not because they like our pretty faces or are doing us some favor or smh

The difference is, it's easier to share their stuff than actually plan out going to another fucking country just to go to a concert. VK bands rarely have the gall to come overseas, especially these days, so at least give them some respect.
