...makes me wonder why the Western music industry's big fishes' visibility of J-rockers (and thus their legitimacy over them as rock musicians) is happening today, with a VK scene deader than ever, both in Japan and abroad, and not in 2007.

Visual Kei was, and pretty much always will be a counterculture movement with a cult following. Things come and go in popularity. That's been the case with Nu Metal, Eurodance, etc.
 
Part of it is the fact that Harajuku culture is dead and J-Fashion is so toned down, and a proper J-Fashion revival is possible, but no matter what, Visual Kei isn't going to be the mainstream phenomenon it barely even was at one point. Its always gonna be a niche movement with niche music tastes. Japanese people and Americans always have, and always will be mainstream taste-wise. Thats the nature of things. No use getting mad about it, because there really is nothing you can really do about it. Just enjoy Visual Kei while it's still a thing. 

LEZARD will hold their last oneman tour since 2020/03/20 and they will disband after their last oneman live at 2020/05/29 at Shinjuku BLAZE

Few years back i kinda lost interest in the music which was mostly because of how super busy i was at the time and just never got round to listening or keeping up with all the news etc but after listening to some old songs/bands i loved years ago i wanted to see how the scene is now, anything you'd recommend that's super popular lately? Looking around i don't recognize hardly any of these current bands.

No matter how we look at it from a rational, western point of view, it's easy to understand why a teenager who is constantly fed a fantasy and actually has a relationship of sorts with the artist (sometimes even sex and phone conversations in exchange of money) would get upset.

Also, there's lots of artists who get openly jealous if their gyas have actual realtionships outside of the scene, I've heard from a few people that their honmei has asked them not to date or a fellow bandmember has told them not to tell that member about their relationship. So we can't only blame fans for that sort of culture.

I'm not a fan of kiryu, of cause there are some crazy fan gya are piss because of he's married, but alot of other dislike the video because:
1. According to what I saw on tanuki, his wife is one of the famous gya that's toxic and bitchy towards other fans, and the one who start all this drama?
2.The way he announces he's married, the poop hat is not "I'm shit because I'm married", a lot fans think more like a passive aggressive way to make fun of the fans.
Also the way he speak some fans feel like "I'm not part of this drama, why you make fun and scold us, you could just simply announce you are married".

Japanese fans literally can't accept their faves being in a romantic relationship, whenever stuff like that gets leaked it's always treated as a huge scandal. 
It surprises me that that Takemasa has decided to acknowledge it and speak out about it, truly shows the role that Tanuki plays in the vk scene.
It's really sad that bandmen have to be paranoid about their private lives simply because fans aren't mature enough to accept them having girlfriends/wives.
It's the "I spend money on you therefore I own you" mentality that is exclusive to Japanese fan culture. Crazily enough, western fans are much more respectful and understanding in that sense.
