Chi reacted to Zeus in I met YOSHIKI and asked about western visual kei
I'd like to take YOSHIKI's quote and add my own context.

This is the key. Visual kei was born out of Japan by those who felt like they didn't fit in anywhere in Japan. YOSHIKI isn't going to say that visual kei can't exist world wide because that's not good for his bottom line, but there's a very good reason why it hasn't taken off outside Japan. It has less to do with looks, singing capability, or chosen musical direction, and more to do with anti-conformity and rebelliousness within and against a homogeneous society. No other country faces the same mix of societal pressures and obligations the way the Japanese do, and as these pressures change over time visual kei changes over time too. This is in contrast to musicians from Western countries who want to emulate the style and look to their favorite and popular artists first. It's the difference between taking a picture, and taking a picture of that picture, and taking a picture of that picture. The farther away one gets away from the source and the conditions that cause that source, the less authentic the final product is.

I fully agree with this. So many bands follow trends because it's the thing to do, but at some point a trend started as a unique idea. Much as I expect musicians to look within themselves and put their feelings into music, I expect inspiring Western visual kei musicians to do the same thing with their looks. The looks are supposed to be an expression of how one feels, not a style of the decade to phone in and gain legitimacy.

I do think Western visual kei is a thing that can happen but the form it would assume would be so different we wouldn't even recognize it by looks alone. My ideal Western visual kei band would be identifiable with the sound alone. We would hear them and just know where those influences came from instead of the "lol i like visual kei and pocky" archetype that usually translates over first.

    I'm done ranting.

ROTFL the DIRU/kyo cult at it again.  How much money do guys make discrediting other music. I guess cause grieva is dying and Rentrer en soi is dead so you guys been stalking the thirteen for a straw you can grab. And i stress the word "STRAW," as it seems you already know your off base here with agree that this is their main stream instrumental and their chorus but you gotta grab something right? but the way you phrase it with "maaan, I can't help but think about DEG"  is straight up subjective, something your brain could have easily conjured up to keep Kyo elevated in stature. Plus going on like that, your so called "beef" is with "Mao" and you thinking about your god "Kyo." Not the bands. Furthermore you dig yourself deeper by saying "constantly trying to emulate him." "constantly?" So Mao does have his own thing and isnt "always" "emulating" kyo in his "10-year old career?"  or is he always?  Cause if so ima need a whole thread of Mao disco with every track and the Kyo track he is referencing. And even if what you are saying is true which im certain  isnt considering how post undead 13+2 is hated and how commercial/MainstreamVK Mao's bands can get with Sadie's Redline, ever, daydream rain fall, Setsugekka (雪月花), The Gazette toying,  and sadie's last album "Gangster" which continued on to be The Thirteen's Disco up to this EP, lets talk about Kyo. Are you not being a hypocrite? Kyo nor DEG is original for that matter. They copied Kuroyume, Luna Sea, BMTH, ECT.  Kyo is definitely ripping of and failing at False chord which he stole from some western band along with those fry screams. Also on his Journey to be a Western Metal influence he copied their hair cut as well as fashion with the leather jackets and stuff. I would bring up marilyn manson but idk the timeline for his video's and Music VS Visual Kai's. but you get the point im trying to make with "plenty of minor details."
Edit: back to the thread, if your not going to make it can you or atleast tell me if these are kyo byproducts WITH RECIEPTS PLEASE those are my fav for singing.
Are you not familiar with Western music? Everything Trap, Mumble rap, all the females sounding the same and still on the charts?

Anyway people need to get over sadie (The Thirteen is sadie[gangster]) wiping there asses with diru over the years and completely body them on bleach with Oboreru Sakana and Voice of pain remaster versions and not be mad the moved on to new greatness beyond upgrading like baby go for it.

OK here's the story as complete as I could find it...
EDIT: I added the long blog post about finances!

    ---

Let's just start with the 2 tweets and the blog post that kicked this all off...

    Massive post about bandman finances:

Anyone who has ever followed any serious jouren drama or otherwise been privy to how jouren spend their money should rightfully have their suspicions about the truthfulness of these tweets, because it simply doesn't mesh with the well-known behavior of fans of bands with even the remotest success. The knowledge of the "underground" practices of bangya is not required to see how the second tweet went viral for all the wrong reasons; it actually attracted ire from music fans outside of the visual kei scene as well. If you read the replies the common thread is essentially: "Why is it the consumer's fault that you're unable to generate any profit?". Some fans also can be seen generally protesting the perceived popular notion among bandmen that bangya can be treated as ATMs. Some less savory replies even chastise him by telling him if he can't even attract a mitsu then he has no hope of building a fanbase. (BTFO) I really don't think the blog post was the crux of this drama by the way, although HERESY might get asspained if anyone less than the Emperor dares to talk about Reita, it's a relatively innocuous account of the reality.  It was the tweet that "blames" bangya for letting bands die that caused the shitstorm IMO.

Visual kei blogger/archivist Atsuhiko Kamiya wrote a lengthy article analyzing this sort of "Visual Kei Mafioso" attitude towards and the expenses associated with bands, if you're fluent in Japanese and interested in the topic: see here.

Anyway, this series of tweets was rather ballsy as he was biting the 3 gya hands that feed him and alienating potential fans, but I think what really sealed the deal was his behavior after this tweet.

It was abundantly clear that his bandmates (particularly the vocalist, Masaki) wanted nothing to do with the massive controversy that this generated, as the vocalist even went so far as to hold an "apology twicast", and posted many apologetic tweets, even individually replying to people to apologize long before Ryuusei commented on the issue. However, Ryuusei did eventually apologize, tweeting:

However, this didn't last long. The next day he posted a blog post where he essentially rescinded his apology and attempted to better explain what he meant, as well as to fuel the absolute torrent of threads about him on tanuki resulting from his statement.

(TN: 'netogya' is a derisive term for visual kei fans who don't attend shows or instores but instead support bands strictly through online means. They're considered lesser fans by some other fans and as you can see above, by some bandmen. You might see some threads on tanuki where bands get laughed at because while they seem popular their fans are all netogya and foreigners living outside Japan... like KILLANETH :^) )

Ryuusei was castigated for constantly undoing his bandmate's work to move past the whole issue, and for (what was perceived as) backpedaling and then baiting tanuki. This was where I personally saw the writing on the wall for kyogetsu -- his band was going to have to kick him out if they wanted to move past this, and the name "kyogetsu" was virtually unheard of until this happened. That brings us to the news of their disbandment

    --

I have a few thoughts about this but a lot of them are the same about how I feel about the grown ass vocalist of 0.1 no gosan feeling like it's his god-given right to tell people what they should do at shows...
