If anything I feel like Sho uses growls when it fits the lyrics. Kyo, on the other hand, often seems like he just randomly makes noises.

Shinya is just fucking stubborn and lazy. He’s not an extreme metal drummer, plain and simple, and he has no intentions of playing fast double kick patterns or crazy blast beats.

World of Mercy has very familiar tom patterns, a groove that was lifted from Behind a Vacant Image, Aka, and Followers, and the exact same baby’s first blast beat that he’s been using since DSS. At one point he WAS at the very least throwing in some triplets on the kick, but then he wouldn’t repeat it live and apparently just gave up entirely.
Shinya has very creative hands, but his feet are practically dead weight.

dudes, Metallica aren't the band that made Ride the Lightning anymore, they're a mainstream rock institution now. there's a huge pressure for them to keep their finger on the pulse of what's going on in their general periphery of the music world. I'm not sure but it wouldn't surprise me at all.
as for the single, uhh, it's clear they still have a knack for actual moody songwriting-there are still glimmers of it-but the "metal" parts remain boilerplate and drag everything down. par for the course for me.

We probably won’t see the full PV until they release AVERAGE DISAPPOINTMENT next year.

Still can't agree with it.
While other praise Tue Madsen, I hate how he pushed cymbals up-front (DSS) and made guitars really dry and dull (Uroko).

Most fascinating thing about that chart to me is that they’re all winter babies

But Kidoairaku isn’t accessible to anyone overseas. That’s the problem.
