  1. Hi everyone,

I think it's time for me to contribute to this community (and my hobby) somehow and the first thing I think of is translations.

I've been learning Japanese for a few years on and off and I'm technically intermediate at best. However I know translating is more than just translating...words. And with Japanese you really can't translate "word for word" like in other languages.

So I guess I'm asking for any advice from experienced translators or even advanced Japanese speakers. How long does it usually take for you to go through a song? What are some obstacles you often come across? And anything else you think Ia novice should know ! Thanks in advance.

I hope I posted this in the right forum

  2. Okay so someone convinced me to read a YA novel for the first time in roughly 5 years...Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

It's in a universe with many similarities to the Roman Empire, told through the point of view of a girl from a low class and a boy who is training to be a warrior (though wants to escapes). The obligatory romance is oh, so predictable.

50 pages in and it's okay. Only okay. I guess if nothing pulls me in by about 100 or so more then I'll drop it.

Woohoo for POC YA authors tho.

    Ima be that asshole.

    This song is straight garbage.

They seem to be stuck in the same rut Mejibray is in which is that they cant stay consistent. One minute they drop a stellar metal track (they are SO good at this. EXPAND ON THAT MY NIGGAS....EXPAND!!!!!!!!!) Then the next is just some average VK-Pop rock. But hey they look good doing it, which is all that matters right?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one thinking exactly this. MEJIBRAY and Pentagon seem to be riding on this trend too and it's pretty boring and generic to me. I really miss tracks like their earlier ones (Oboreru, Ame no Waltz, etc.)

  4. The first band that I claimed was my favorite was Vidoll, despite the fact that I got into them after they had disbanded (this was in 2013), but the first ONGOING band that i felt was my favorite was GOTCHAROCKA around the time they released Poisonous Berry...I can't say they're my favorites now tho :') no matter how much I love Jui

  5. Ah yes, another time for me share my unneeded opinion:

This isn't exactly music related but I kinda hate how people near my age and younger only obsess over the same few bands (which I don't really care for): DADAROMA, Pentagon, and MEJIBRAY (I think I've already said how much I dislike them here earlier). It's like they're more interested in their looks, selfies, etc.  than actually realizing that the music they've came out with as of late is just so lackluster, compared to many other bands.  That's why I encourage everyone I get to talk to take a stop by MH. I've learned so much here I love ya'll.

Other bands (or labels) I don't get the hype for is AINS. Besides DIAURA, Gossip, Kuroyuri to Kage, Grieva, etc. have not impressed me. Maybe I'm not listening to the right releases but I don't get why a ton of folks go crazy over them.

I was at the Dallas show!! VIP third row! It was a great time^^

oh yes, Jui is my weakness.... I love your pic too! When I saw him tweet that, I've never saved a pic so fast in my life.

Wasn't in VIP, but I was first row GA :D

He is my ultimate weakness too...too bad he only posts selfies every blue moon </3

  7. OMG another Jui & Vidoll lover osighoishgoh (love that pic of him that's your icon)

I also live in the Southern US and have the same problems in terms of finding folks that like vk/Jrock. I wonder if you saw The GazettE in Dallas I was there

Aside from my giddiness, welcome to MH! ^^

  8. I find glaring examples of this whenever it comes to kpop/krap. Honestly, many kpop fans will swear up and down that Western music is trash when so many of the groups and music producers say they are directly influenced from Western artists.... I also do not think the phonetic discussion has much validity in kpop either especially when so many of the verses and lyrics are English...

Like some mentioned earlier, it could just be some people just glorifying anything these countries produce...so general koreaboo/weeabooness and close-mindedness ensues.

But hey, to each their own.

Definitely loving this discussion. Personally, I guess I have a linguistic bias to J-music now, and my taste in Western bands has fallen off some. However, I don't think a language will bar me from enjoying a band fully. I am always open to recommendations from everywhere. I don't like limiting myself when it comes to music...I'm always looking for a new song that I'll get hooked to.

    Cheers <3

  9. When I was in middle school I was horrendously obsessed with Naruto lowkey still am  , anime in general, American pop, and electronic music. A-pop was relatively decent back then in my opinion..I don't want to mention any of my favorite songs or artists because I'd age myself.  ><  I still do listen to it occasionally, but I think my electronic tastes are still aligned as to how they are now.

At the end of middle school I discovered visual kei jrock and though I still listen to A9, the GazettE, and Vidoll a lot, I notice that i do not like certain songs as much as I used to anymore..and it makes me a tad bit sad. I also don't like Versailles or D as much as I did in middle school, 'cause I don't listen to them at all now. Weird.
