YuyoDrift reacted to chemicalpictures in #115: DEZERT - TODAY
I wholeheartedly disagree with the main points of this review, mainly because I'm pretty confident that this album represents the moment the band is in. I've been saying that if they had released something like 6~8 of those songs and called it a conceptual mini album, the backlash wouldn't be nowhere near what we're seeing. That interview with Chiaki mentioned above only confirmed my claims, this album was necessary for them to evolve as a band, for him as a person, so I'm fine with that. Using the same 12012 as an example, they had to suck hard with DIAMOND and MAR MAROON so we could have SEVEN, their best release IMO. We had to endure the crap that was the self titled to see them finding balance in THE SWAN and XII. Looking at DEZERT discography from afar, TODAY is a great addition. Yeah, may not be what people were expecting after such an amazing album that was Saikou no Shokutaku, but I feel their work will be enriched by it. That's not to say about the composition, cuz shit is tight as ever. There are one or another verses I'm not really fond of, but they always had a few like that. And TODAY is a great song, no matter what DEZERT we are talking about

YuyoDrift reacted to Zeus in Monochrome Heaven's 2019 Banner Contest
Monochrome Heaven's 2019 Banner Contest
Hey everyone! This is a shout out to all digital artists on the website interested in content creation. It's about time to add some new bands into the rotating banner at the top of the forum, and for that we can use your skills! What better way to show off some skills than in a friendly competition? Here's the basic idea:
Create a banner according to the rules which I will define in a moment. Respond to this topic by submitting your banner in a post. Since you cannot edit your post after you submit it, make sure your post is the way you want it before posting. You can submit as many banners as you have time / energy to create. The second phase of the banner contest will be anonymous voting from the community. The top three voted banners will be added to the top and the members who created those banners will be announced then. Winners of the contest will get their screen name in a special color in addition to having their work featured at the top of the forum! Rules:
Banner should have dimensions of 800x120. Banner should have a thin, rounded white outline. Banner should preferably be a PNG, but a GIF is acceptable if you are interested in making an animated banner. Banner should in some way relate to Japanese music. Normally, we feature a band at the top, but there is room for creativity. Banner should have the text "Monochrome Heaven" on it. Banner should contain material that is Safe For Work. NSFW banners will be automatically disqualified. Banner submission should remain anonymous until the end for fairness. All banners will be shown at the end. Banners can contain anything else you think will give you an edge in the competition.
The submission deadline will be open for four weeks, or until May 18th, 2019.
Have fun! I'm excited to see what our members can come up with.

YuyoDrift got a reaction from suji in random thoughts thread
As someone who grew up in the Latino community and spent night after night, cookout after cookout, club after club of listening to Reggaeton and Bachata....I can;t listen to that shit either. Many of the people back then agree that the music has gone way past its prime, and with the recent collabs with nobodies (fight me) I can surely tell you that it is not what it was.
I'll live in my 2002-2008 era of Luny Tunes and their Mas Flow jams thank you.

YuyoDrift reacted to Gesu in Show us your handwriting!
My handwriting's pretty terrible, much like the quality of this picture (sorry 'bout that, I have no good cameras).
When I was about seven, my teachers told me that I had to improve my handwriting because no-one could read it. After I did (and by that, I mean after I decided to be all fancy and write in cursive), I looked back at some of my old writing and, sure enough, I was genuinely unable to make out what I'd written in the past. It's still pretty bad, and my teachers still tell me they prefer it when I type (even though I haven't had any college teachers tell me my handwriting's completely illegible). It doesn't look too awful in this picture, but if you saw one of my college essays with loads and loads of words all close together, you might not be able to understand it. It's like a typical ten-year-old boy's handwriting; spiky, thin and awkward. Kind of like my hair, actually.

YuyoDrift reacted to ShTon in VK/J-rock confessions
I don't like most of 90's and older vk. ;w; I tried to get into it but couldn't find anything I liked. I'll just stick to the 00's and present stuff.
I never considered my taste in music to be good, tho.

YuyoDrift reacted to Gesu in VK/J-rock confessions
Sometimes when people walk past my door (I live in a flat), I turn my music down/pause it even though it's not that loud because I don't want anyone to hear some of the stuff I listen to. Tbh, I don't think anyone who lives here even gives that much of a shite, but I still get self-conscious, especially when I'm listening to an OST or something jazzy. I love jazz, but I worry that people will judge me for that. I'm also very hesitant to tell people I like VK/J-rock, so whenever someone asks me what kind of music I listen to, I say "if I told you, you would run away" and I only tell them if they press the issue. I dunno why, but that's how I've always been.

YuyoDrift got a reaction from Nighttime Jae in VK/J-rock confessions
While it is publicly known that I have a large distaste for Mejibray, I never tell anyone what kept the fires going.
It stems not so much from their crappy music (although I believe this to be true) or that their diehard fans at the time couldn't see past the superficiality, it was actually just that I think/thought they looked like giant assholes who were just dicking around and made VK look bad. In short, an embarrassment to the scene.
Was I wrong? Idk I never cared to check but I do know that the members still look like assholes haha.
The fact they are no more just gets a meh from me.
Secretly, I think a certain band I listen to felt the same way as I did too lol so there was also that.

YuyoDrift reacted to Nighttime Jae in Nice to meet you
Thank you so much for your warm welcome!
Let's see... my favorite active band is CLACK inc., which has generated from EVE's ashes (probably my all-time favorite band). Others band I dig are Kizu, HAKLO, Razor, Mamireta, The Raid., Arlequin, Neverland... some more "cliche" choices like Royz, UNiTE, DIMLIM, DDRM (even though I kinda have a love-hate relationship with them), Diru etc... when it comes to disbanded bands, Rentrer En Soi, 9GOATS, An Cafe, Kagrra and D'EspairsRays are among my favorites. I also like some more old-school stuff a la BUCK-TICK, MM, SHAZNA, Janne Da Arc etc., but I admit that my knowledge of 80-90's vk is a bit lacking😅

avanchick - jinsei game
briefly speaking, the main character goes through several reincarnations, he reborns as a host, as salaryman, playboy bartender, and bandomen for whom nobody cares (all four careers not respected in society), but no matter who you are life is a joke and god is just playing with us and we buy relationships for money and bla bla bla
yami uta by gallo is criticizing japan, as there are two lines about corrupted country of the gods. japan is referred as country of the gods because their myths say emperors ascend from japanese god amaterasu.
well half of did song is in english and those lines cover pretty much everything: no point in living, no point in dying, god is dead, all that teen angst stuff

YuyoDrift got a reaction from Furik in deadman to hold a oneman live in September 2019
If this is the case I sincerely hope that the OG VK fans come out of the woodworks for this. The way the scene has been recently, I feel "now or never" couldn't apply any more than it could with this.
I really can't believe this is real. I was literally just asking myself if Mako would ever come back. To see that Asanao gets to play alongside them is one of the most epic things he can be known for to me lol.

YuyoDrift reacted to returnal in deadman to hold a oneman live in September 2019
after thirteen years, deadman will hold a oneman live, titled oneman live 2019 -before the dawn-, at Tokyo LIQUIDROOM ebisu on the ninth of September, 2019. the group will consist of 眞呼 (Mako) (Vo) and aie (G). YuyoDrift reacted to Gesu in Cheer Yourself with Sad Music
Agreed. Been a while since anyone posted in here, but whatever. I always find myself strangely drawn to sad music, even though I'm not particularly sad very often.
I've been listening to this song a lot lately. I first heard it ages ago, but I've been playing it on repeat recently. It's just so touching and emotive... plus, the video is gorgeous, as per usual with Moran.
This is one of the reasons I love music so much. Anything that can make sadness a desirable emotion is truly beautiful to me.

YuyoDrift reacted to saishuu in Janne Da Arc
So, this thread has been dead for a while. I'm getting into older Janne these last few weeks and I'm really enjoying most of it. "Dearly" is an incredible album.
What's everyone's favorite albums/songs? Mine has been "Judgement" for years now.
