DOREMIdan were my favourite back in the day (with ayabie) with all that "tango" sound, if you're interested check the albums Retsujou Lullaby and Gekijou Shouroku

Doremidan were great, just reading their name really takes me back!  I've never been super into them, but I remember spinning their "Retsujou Lullaby" mini album A LOT back when I was just diving into this whole vk business.

Jinkaku Radio was a really cool group too, very nice moody/melancholic sound. Again, I wasn't a huge fan but one song of theirs that will always remain with me is "Nejimaki dori". ♥ (the live version is amazing too)

I really dug Chemical Pictures when they started out and they were truly in their prime back when Jimi was the bassist (you could tell his fine-tuning went a long way!). After he left I gradually lost interest in them... they were still okay but nowhere near as fun. Solid band overall tho, very creative!

jinra is still one of my favorites. it got worse with time though...check out 証拠 album, it's the band's classic release.

saiko reacted to Komorebi in What is "menhera kei"? And how does it 'sound' like?
Yeah, its' a blog/net term adopted by bands to talk about teen issues. Nothing to do with music per-se, really.
There's also a fashion movement associated to it (unrelated to VK).

Mental-health kei, basically idolizing cutting yourself and shit

Never listened to any music that fits the genre (I don't think; I don't actively listen to it, anyways) and I don't want to. It's basically #edgy taken to the extreme and wrapped in a big pink bow. It's kind of sad, really. It was supposed to be a way of people being honest about their issues and trying to reduce stigma, but they kind of did it wrong and romanticised it. They also try to lump it together with more "innocent" genres such as oshare/decora, which is why I'd wager a lot of people are apprehensive about them 😕

i think that newish band ロゼ fits the description. i kind of lost all interest when the guitarist posted photos of his wrist cutting..

MenheraKei is basically any kind of Vkei with mental health themes (generally pills and wrist cutting). Examples include R-Shitei, AvelCain, and GossiP. It's not really a genre, just a fan-made term I think. Please correct me if I'm wrong lol

saiko reacted to sleepy coffee in Has Mamo gotten any better today? I love a lot of R-shitei stuff, but seriously, dude
i have to imagine hes probably gotten better since 2013 but idk im always weary of vocalists who scream a bit cause i just assume theyre throat is always destroyed for live performances

I'll be always grateful to vk artists for allowing me to discover the post punk scene while introducing some of their most memorable artists and works.

I have the same opinion of yours, and also feel the same way respect the vk scene nowadays. Original VK (even when it wasn't called that way) imported the same "ethos" of post punk; thus the classics acts still sound fresh and genuine despite having 20 or 30+ years old, and in the other hand, newer acts can only become more and more industrialized, to the point of looking ridiculous when looking for the attention of kogal and young girls obssesed with anime and game characters. So VK as a canal of true artistic expression, with its charge of social inconformism, like post punk was, is pretty much dead.

For years, Shazna was my guilty pleasure, since I was sort of in an anti-pop phase. But with Shazna, I liked how their music was reminiscent of 80's New Wave. Now, I shamelessly sing and dance along to Aqua lol
