When I was younger, I couldn't have imagined having unopened CDs. Every single one was a treasured experience, and I'd spend so much time pouring over them.

Now I have quite a few (probably less than 20 though), mostly due to getting the CD long after I've had a rip of it. & many of mine are newer UNDER CODE releases, which can be pretty lacking in the packaging department anyway

Yeah, vk still does it for me! Like others have said, “all new bands suck, I miss the good ol' days” is just a function of growing up and getting over it. There are always good band and bad bands.

I actually think the past couple of years have been better for vk than the few years preceding! We have so many great recent bands―SIBILE BASHIR, THE BLACK SWAN, Femme Fatale, MASKED RIDER SYSTEM, ELM, DIAURA, Grieva, KUROYURI, the Gallo, AvelCain, ARLEQUIN, PENTAGON, HOLLOWGRAM et al, Develop One's, etc., etc.―plus emmuree, D, NIGHTMARE, GAZETTE, and other old guys still kicking it. DIR EN GREY released their first good music in a minute, MORRIE is running around doing shit, PLC's releasing new music, etc...

the vk scene is so vast that it's only as interesting as the amount of effort you put into finding bands that interest you. for me, it really is as simple as that. as someone who unabashedly invests a lot of time in exploring new bands, i won't even pretend to know enough to make generalizations about "vk" as a whole. (but evidently these days listening to 3 bands is more than enough for ppl to prophesize that vk is dying, has died, etc.)

That's something that I've always loved about vk. It's connected as one scene, but the musical variety is fairly vast. It's somewhat unusual to have fans of so many types of rock music under one roof, so to speak

The thing about D is, them releasing a fucking DUD of a single/album is nothing unusual. I think it's just a part of their process at this point! But they always come back around with something good, so I don't worry about them anymore. Just wait it out.

It's a little odd to have a DVD themed around Memento-mori and then not actually play that song on it. Would have highly prefered that over "Call Back" or "Foolish" (even if that's their most popular song for god knows whatever reason).

Silent Hill was also the name of Sequence Records live events (and live VHS); Sequence Records being the old label of TOMOZO. So that's where the name is from.

I wonder if there will be some one-day revivals?

I keep my music folder in several sections (in a fittingly stupid arrangement for my personality), and then artist folders within those:

1 KISAKI family ― Matina/UCP bands

2 KISAKI family related ― related to Matina/UCP bands eg. THE BLACK SWAN

3 visual kei ― bulk of the music here

4 subpar visual kei ― lame or boring, but I don't want to delete for some reason; not put into iTunes

5 omnibus

6 pop and american

In each artist's directory I have folders marking their entire discography―for releases that I don't have, I mark the folder with ※. I number them just so I know how much of the discography I have, and so I can arrange releases which I don't know the exact release date of. Example:

All song filenames are in the format of [artist] - [tracknum] - [title], and all in basic Latin characters to make uploading/archiving easier. I'm also super particular about tagging; every release I download/rip, I strip all tags with Mp3tag and redo them myself. That ensures correct (“correct”?) information, but, also, it's fucking crazy how badly people can tag stuff. Especially when you get into artist sorting, and "DIR EN GREY" comes up as "emmuree" in iTunes or some shit... crazy.

No... No, you do not! It is quite traumatic, I can tell you. I've been where he's been. It was spring of 2013, I had an external hard drive die on me, and I had no backup (I was stupid), so I had to rebuild my music library.

There were... a few things on that drive that I may never get back in this lifetime...

Uuuugggggghhhhh that's the worst!! My condolences. It took me 2 or 3 external harddrive failures, and similar losses of once-in-a-lifetime files, before signing up for a backup service. I use Backblaze. Can't live without it (although I've since been luckier with harddrives).

Here's the rest of my collection.  I did not include any magazine pull-outs or magazine/LP posters in my poster section as I have a lot of them.  I also didn't include my sticker collection as I have tons of stickers from 1990 - 2000 and most of them are plain to look at.
