I don't know what happened, so I'm going to assume there is some reason the mods have all  converged towards that ban and they weren't just being bullies. But even if Trombe was in the wrong, that does not in any way invalidate all the valuable contributions this person brought to the News section and the forum in general. I find it in poor taste to suddenly start acting as if his work wasn't such a big deal or even worse, that it was inconvenient this person was so thorough in news coverage.  I didn't see anyone complain about this before, so It feels disingenuous to start downplaying his/her work now that he/she won't post anymore.  I'm sure it's not the same for everyone here, but take a step back and it's easy to realize some of us were really appreciative of all the news posted, either minor or major, and in very due time. Just an opinion from someone who barely posts and has no  particular sympathies for anyone.

not gonna take sides since I hardly know the details of the drama, but no matter how you look at it this is a blow for people who actually care about the 'no 1 curr' bands, or random ad-hoc sessions, or what live-limited cd is being distributed in sendai next weekend. whether the news is of quality is for the audience to judge; however without an appreciable volume of news filtering in there's nothing left to know about, much less to judge. and regardless if you like trombe, or however questionable his motives may be, it can't be denied that he's been a great service to not just you and me but the international vk community since it should be patently obvious that every self-professed 'vk news source' out there is basically a c+p of what's posted in MH.

Hmm. I just want to say that... it should not matter how long a band sticks around before disbanding. They make music, and deserve to be supported (financially and emotionally) by fans of their music.

Suppose a hypothetical band releases one amazing masterpiece album that you loved so much that you bought it. You even saw them live. Then, they disband out of nowhere. Does that suddenly mean the album can't be enjoyed anymore? Does that mean you wasted your money? Do you wish that you never went to that concert?

Music has no expiration date. People still enjoy music by artists who are long dead, let alone disbanded. Just because they are no longer alive/active, does not mean that you can't still enjoy what they produced. And, fear that a band could soon disband shouldn't discourage you from listening to their music.

If you still like the music by the bands you listed, you still like J-rock. You might not like any NEW J-rock, but the old J-rock will always be there for you if you want it.

    ..

Sorry if any of that sounded really corny. And you know, all that is my opinion of how music should be enjoyed. If you want to insist on only listening to "new music" or "bands that are unlikely to disband", feel free, you do you.

As for the main post, that's a very convincing and well-written introduction to the band. It would definitely make me check them out if I had no idea who they were.

    Top 10 - Song Edition
If you're new to an artist, you might want some recommendations before you dive into their whole discography, and what better way to help you out on that than to present to you a handful of favourite songs from across a band/artist's whole work? You might be wanting a heads up, especially those with a hefty discography, or just a starting point to lead you to the best spot and work your way down from there. Whatever the case, here's a personal list of my favourites by Gothic rockers PLASTICZOOMS.

This list is ranked, so the numbers are meant as a specific order in this case. I hope this proves to be helpful for any members who are interested in trying them out, or even encourage other fans to make their own lists in response on whatever PLASTICZOOMS related they might want to also do.
    PLASTICZOOMS
Vocalist Sho Asakawa, guitarist Taiyo Ikeda, bassist Jun Yokoe, drummer Yuta Kurata, and keyboardist Shinpei Morishige make up the band. Their style can be described as alternative, shoegaze rock, but they touch upon many different sounds with each release ranging from post punk to electronic. They also have just as much of a focus on their appearance as they do sound. They're well known for their Gothic appearance, and are more popular overseas than in Japan due to this and their almost Visual Kei-esque attire. They have even collaborated with fashion label Discovered, had a photo shoot exhibited by professional photographer Nao Takeda, and appeared in "The Reality Show", a magazine where they worked with photographer Nobuyoshi Akari and designer Jill Sander. Sho himself has a brand called Venus Eccentric and is a DJ. PLASTICZOOMS are a very active band that are constantly evolving as musicians. In an interview, Sho has even compared the band to a chameleon in that they change "color from time to time" with each release. While this is certainly true, as evident with their first album (Charm) being especially punk influenced while their second (Starbow) has more of a pop sound, they continue to get better and better in my eyes.

    10. SWAN

    9. SAVAGE

    8. THE MORNING SUN

    7. Witch

    6. WOODS UNDER THE MOOD IN THE LOOP

    5. P A R A D E

    4. ILLUMINATION

    3. PINK SNOW

    2. Cry. Distance.

    1. Sleepwalker

It was difficult just picking out ten PLASTICZOOMS tracks, who admittedly don't have that big of a discography compared to most, but even so there were two specific songs that unfortunately couldn't make it in that still deserves mentions.
"MONOCHROME" really can be the only reason you need to check out their second album CRITICAL FACTOR just because of how perfect it is of an opening to the release. The messy yet grungy execution and overall dark sound makes this one an instantly repeatable tune all on its own."The Shadow" is a fine example of how the band used to sound early one, and easily my firm favourite from their early discography. It's a hauntingly beautiful yet quite simple post-rock tune compared to their recent output.

So, do we have any other PLASTICZOOMS lovers in the house? Anything you'd like to add, or change, or comment on? Give us your thoughts below! Also feel free to suggest other artists you might want to see be ranked like so: song wise, release wise, PV wise, you name it! I hope you enjoyed!

      | 2016's first 'must have'.

After Vidya and a slew of experimental singles, it’s a fair assumption to say that most fans were surprised at the speed in which IX -Nine- released their first album. The fact that this would actually be a double album certainly piqued my interest. Following the same stylistic shift that followed Vidya, IX -Nine-‘s latest release is a veritable platter of progression. Evolving from Vidya’s use of traditional instruments and ethereal vocals, Nirdvandva integrates electronic elements to their trademark sound, as well as a sprinkling of industrial, classical, trip-hop and EDM. This culminates in a varied album, appealing to both fans and newcomers. While songs like "Blind Gold" have that familiar atmospheric, even viscous IX -Nine- denseness to them that fans will love, others such as "Saints Ideal" could easily be radio-worthy and a more welcoming invitation for new listeners.
While there is something here for everyone, there are times when the album feels too experimental, with sections seemingly added to tick off another genre from the hitlist. While the orchestral section of "暗礁" comes across as a tad bombastic, for example, the shifts between rock, metal and dancepop in "Heat Haze" come across as awkward, making for a jarring listening experience. This also seems to permeate into the second album’s tracklist, with a noticeably sporadic flow due to the number of instrumental tracks peppered throughout.

In spite of this, Nirdvandva otherwise shines in its experimentation. Previous singles "Pairidaēza Lost" and "Subliminal Sunrise" are a testament to the band’s skilful utilisation of electronic elements, whereas "餞" easily intertwines Eastern instruments with beat samples, leading into a full-on EDM rave. Despite some hiccups, IX -Nine-‘s ability to integrate new genres into their music and still make them their own is interesting to say the least and an effective way of keeping new and existing listeners hooked.

Nirdvanva’s first side, Numinöse, is a beautifully crafted album. As with Vidya, the atmosphere and emotions created by tracks like "棘と艶" are both haunting and palpable. The echoing piano that reverberates throughout the track is characteristic of most of the album. This is often punctuated by minimalist drumming, melodic guitarwork and beautifully-employed string instruments. "苦海" and "目醒めの未視感"  are perfect examples of this, utilising large, vocal-free chunks of their play time to enthral the listener with such instrumentation. Dripping with emotion, the majority of this album welcomes you to simply sit and listen, analysing and appreciating each song’s intricacies.

That’s not to say that this is not an accessible album, however. "Saints Ideal" is a great example of how IX -Nine-’s electronic additions entice new listeners through more modern approaches. With fluid movements between catchy electronic music bordering on Oshare Kei and surprisingly heavier passages, this song is a welcome addition to the library of most Visual Kei fans. Similarly, "祷りの星" dances between attention-grabbing piano sections and drum-fuelled flurries highlighted by vocalist IX‘s first use of harsh vocals. A new avenue for his vocal work, this is yet another song on the album showcasing his abilities. Throughout most of Numinöse his ethereal voice is the highlight, moving from effortless high vocals to haunting softness. The minimal nature of songs like "Blind Gold" and "Pairidaēza Lost"  allow for his plaintive delivery to affect the listener, demanding their attention. For the melancholic atmosphere of this album, IX’s voice is perfectly suited for the job.

In contrast to the delicate nature of Numinöse, the majority of Nirdvandva’s second side, 眩き展望, is dark, even menacing. With a focus on Eastern instruments, tracks like "幕間劇" and "幽玄の誘い" are markedly different from those found on Numinöse. Not dissimilar to Dir En Grey’s "Sa Bir", they show an entirely different side to the band whilst retaining that palpable atmosphere. Eeriness is peppered across 眩き展望, with an emphasis on traditional instruments ("憂き世" as an example) and ominous chanting ("夢現" and "幕間劇") to generate a presence almost. Like Numinöse, this album strives to be as evocative as possible, often resulting in vibes that are characteristic of Akira Yamaoka’s music. His mantra of silence also being a sound is seemingly employed across the entirety of Nirdvanva, with haunting vocal-less passages having just as much weight to them as the album’s many emotional choruses.

This oppressive atmosphere gives way to many displays of musical catharsis in the album, however. "弛まぬ霊の相続" shatters expectations by progressing into a straight up rock number, despite its opening. Previous single "有終の美" has a wonderful ebb and flow between acoustic and electronic instrumentation, punctuated with some fantastic drumming. This leads nicely to the drumming in "暗礁" which takes centre stage, literally hammering away the darkness at the start of the track via a sporadic and attention-demanding flurry on the skins.

Admittedly 眩き展望 is heavy on the instrumental tracks but each song is a worthy addition to the band’s library. "Mellow Sleep", for example, utilises that signature IX -Nine- atmosphere to create a pseudo-lullaby before leading into a powerful close. As with the EDM ending to "餞", the shredding guitars of this song’s climax is unexpected yet welcome. Like the rest of Nirdvandva, everything feels new yet familiar.

IX -Nine- have come a long way in their budding career, with a staggering amount of quality songs released in a short space of time. Nirdvanda proves that IX -Nine- are far from a one-trick pony and that they are a band who is willing to diversify whilst still retaining their trademark sound. Despite a few hiccups, Nirdvandva is a musical journey and one of the few albums that are truly immersive. With an array of new genres, themes, and atmospheres under their belt, I’m more excited than ever to see where their next release takes them.

saltofstones got a reaction from evilcoconut in VK and Kpop....why?
I think it's mostly the visuals and the glamour of it all. If someone was almost exclusively into VK bands, who mostly play rock music, then the logical step for them to take if they wanted to try some Korean music would be Korean rock bands. But most Kpop fans entirely ignore any form of rock coming from Korea, yet some of them continue listening to VK because they "also like rock music". Ok, so why not K-Rock then? Maybe because they actually like "Asian pretty boy music" and the rest are just excuses and rationalizations for their superficiality. Of course I think it's fine to listen to Kpop and whatever you want if you actually do like plenty of different music, it's understandable that people enjoy a variety of music and genres. Kpop is fun music, I myself don't like it, but it's pretty easy to like, that's for sure. But obsessing only over VK and Kpop and ignoring everything else is pretty telling of having 0 interest in the music itself.

I think I'm one of the few people to actually say this is a good thing. Not specifically for the reason they say it is, but have you ever stood in a pit with people dancing and moshing around while a whole bunch of people are trying to film things and take pictures? You know how many times they look at you like you've murdered someone just because "oh no, my picture got ruined thanks to you". Then when they drop their phones and the screens crack, it's also your fault because you bumped into them. First few rows or balcony places are totally something else but don't take pics when you're in the middle of a moving crowd :/ (it's also annoying when other people who aren't filming are trying to look at what's happening on stage. You just get arms flinging around trying to take the perfect shot of their idols)

I'm also not really sure on what's so fun about watching a full gig through your phone/camera's screen while the people are playing right in front of you.

saltofstones reacted to WhirlingBlack in MH FEATURED POLL #40: What are the things you HATE about Visual Kei?
My main issue with the visual kei scene isn't really represented in the options here, and it's something you generally get more in touch with once you get to Japan and get to experience the scene.
Firstly, the fact that a large majority of visual kei musicians more or less openly admits they don't have any artistic or personal integrity, they don't care what they produce and they don't care that their sound is exactly like every other band out there, because they know that as long as the members are pretty enough there WILL be fans, and they WILL pay you money for "company" and "favors" so that you can survive comfortably and keep rehashing the same song for a couple of years until you feel like calling it quits and do something more worthwhile with your life, or more likely, go into full time hosting business now that you have a decent circle of clients already.

This sort of leads me into my second issue and it's the bangya culture. It's generally really vile, and the way the girls not only talk about the musicians but also each other is quite disgusting. If the bangyas decide that a member has done something they do not approve of, that doesn't live up to their perfect ideals that they hold them all to (because god knows the fangirls don't live up to any of them) they can easily start enough shit to cause a band to break up or force a member out of the band. The issues doesn't end there though, because the few foreign bangya that exists generally adapt to this mentality and lifestyle too. They openly shun other foreigners who dare attend the lives of "their" band and ruin their "specialness", they participate in this completely daft saizen system where a designated person basically decides who gets what spot at a concert so everyone can enjoy playing ten year olds doing the "you're not allowed to play with us"-games... And the obviousness of what really drives people to be fans of these bands become so apparent when they get to this level, and it's certainly not the music.

To be honest, in a lot of ways I never realized how bad this was until I got there and could see it all for myself, and that's despite a 13 year stint in the scene by now.

Thats it, thanks folks. this list isn't comprehensive, check the lists of other users to see what things on the more oshare/pop spectrum i might have missed. also as to the absence of chanty and scapegoat, they likely would have made the list but a bitch aint got enough time to listen to everything. Tell me what u think i might have overlooked, and feel free to fight me in the comments ^>^. here's to another lovely year of all things visual kei with my friends at MH for 2016, love y'all <3 <3

Disappointed as hell with the new lynch., sadly. Even weirder cuz the preceding singles were pretty cool. I might re-try it next year, but so far I couldn't even get all the way through a 2nd listen. Full of bland, lifeless and/or ridiculous tunes (i.e. "did they rly think this was a good riff? rly??").
I guess I'm probably the minority in thinking this tho.
