It definitely feels like they took an unofficial hiatus there... seems like the typeset for their name changed too? I'm just happy to see them active again, though. It's tiresome following Tsukasa into all these bands, I'd like this one to stick around for a while! XD

Agree with these so hard. Also vouching for those old Eiji (FACT) mentions. Tatsuya Amano (Crossfaith) is a little insane beast. Another drummer that's underrated af is Godri (SiM). I mean how many styles does he have to breeze through for you in one song? VK drummers it's Satochi (MUCC), he's another one that seems to be solid in just about every style they attempt. As far as outside Japan: Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age), Morgan Rose (Sevendust), Matt Nicholls (Bring Me The Horizon)... I could go on for days, tbh. I may or may not have a soft spot for drummers. >>;

It's not hard to link at all. Hip hop and dance music influences are still strong, I would even go so far as to attribute every group having an obligatory rapper to the Seo Taiji and the boys formula. To me not a lot has changed aside from folding in some more modern musical influences. If you don't see it, it's because you are choosing not to, but it's still there.

Only that's not correct at all. Kpop (in the current idol group sense) as it is, was not engineered in some back room. It started as a fluke that a group gained popularity (read up on Seo Taiji and the boys) and then companies emulated this success years later. And that fad has remained a staple of the Korean pop market. It did start organically like any other "scene", contrary to whatever you think you've heard.

I know very little Jpop actually. X"D I've only heard a couple of Perfume songs, but they seem to use a lot of EDM too, yes? That was a great cover!!! Your voice really suits 2PM. *~*

Me too! XD I don't listen to much VIXX (I'm always open to recommendations, though!), but I like a lot of JYPE artists. 2PM are my faves. I tend to favor the R&B style songs over the EDM or ballad-y ones.

Welcome back! You chose the perfect time with the karaoke contest making its comeback soon! I also took break from Jrock at one point and had 2 years where I got really into Kpop. lol.
